If you owe HMRC anything they should inform you before passing on the debt for recovery. That is you would have received a notice of any tax owed to HMRC. As above call HMRC and establish whether they (HMRC) think you owe them outstanding tax. If yes try to establish who they passed the debt to. Also try to establish with HMRC why there is a discrepancy between your understanding of your tax liabilities and HMRCs understanding of your liabilities.

Recording times and dates of conversations is worthwhile, as is noting the gist of the conversation.

Make a note of every occasion that Rosendales calls – they aren’t allowed to intimidate you and they should not call at unsociable hours.

PS I’m not an accountant so the above in no way constitutes anything other than a personal opinion. I am very opinionated.

Not much help to all you peeps way darn south (yeah for me Manchester is the South and anywhere South of that is the DEEEEp South) but up in Aberdeen there’s an ace tyre place called Sillets. The guy who runs it should be employed to change tyres on a formula 1 team. Though it is slightly worrying seeing your car balancing on three jacks!

My mate has a vinyl cutter, we did some “cool” graphics for my brothers car when he left if with me while he was away. People double take and comment as it is all quite subtle. The car – a lilac/purple Daihatsu Charade (it was my aunts).

Keep pushing, firm but polite. It may well have been an accident but that has to be careless driving at the least and surely if the driver was spotted using a mobile that can be confirmed by a quick check of the call log on the drivers handset? And that is another offense in itself.

The OH got an Olympus Tough as she is a little careless with phones/cameras and the kids like to play with it. Good images and it’s tough (been dropped, left outside, used in the rain, all sorts of abuse).

As riski said how much for a camera that will film a number plate while being run down or punched by an angry beer boy?

Cheers ormondroyd good to get a sense that it’s probably worth carrying a camera on known iffy stretches of road.

If nothing else I can waist some time on YouTube posting sweary videos.

OK, so one common element for an offense to be prosecuted is being physically struck by a car or a person. What about warnings issued to drivers by police on the back of a close shave (ie where there is some ambiguity)?

Am thinking about a camera after being forced into a ditch while towing my daughters in their buggy/trailer by two teenage lads racing each other on an unclassified stretch of road near Aberdeen. Wish I had been able to film it to show as evidence. Unfortunately the lads were away so quick that I didn’t get a proper look at their cars or their number plates (was looking after the girls).

All those clips up there are gobsmacking.

The support and the covered laces are why I like my AM41s, that and they come in a size that fit my feet. That’s probably the real reason I like them.

Sort of. Our kids don’t get to watch CBBC etc. They do have a fine selection (ie the OH choose them) of DVDs (including the complete Ivor the Engine). These they have access to at the weekend for a couple of hours in the morning.

It’s a very accessible city (U and S-Bahn get’s you most places very quickly in Berlin “proper”, also loads of buses). Each area has it’s character. Charlottenburg, more up market. Kreuzberg, more working class, mix of nationalities. If you want to see the WWII/cold war sites stay near’ish to Potsdammer Platz, but personally when I go I look for good accommodation near a U or S Bahn station and take things from there. Best food in Berlin is Fallafel.

Can’t we just invade Brazil? Than we’ll have all the nuts we could possibly eat? And we’d get a second go at doing a really really good olympics because now it would be somewhere hot and sunny.

Anyone see Die Zeit or was it another paper? Anyway, Germans praising British organisation! Are they learning Sarcasm? (I can say that and it’s not racist or nothing coz I lived there and have German family).

I haven’t really peddled any science in here bar one post. I was just picking holes in how the piece was written/worded so as to manipulate the reader.

I am almost certainly wrong but isn’t that the point of the media – “to manipulate the reader”?

The question then is “should the media be so manipulative?” as a libertarian I would have thought that the answer to this is yes. (No I’m not confusing neo-liberalism/market economies with Libertarianism.)

If you go for a Cotic they’ll fit your bottom bracket and headset (if you buy the components from them). I bought a solaris like that from Cotic the rest was straight forward. (Though I did go to a LBS to have the steerer cut to length – cost £15 quid and they dropped swarf on the seals!)

In my experience (two forks one in a bag one in a box, both reba rl’s one for a 29er and one for a 26er) the only difference is that the boxed one included a manual a complete seal kit and a shock pump. While the bagged one was, well in a bag in an own brand box. No difference in quality as far as I can see. So is the price difference equivalent to a shock pump and a complete seal kit? Hope that’s some help.

My prescription is a little too high for regular sun glass frames and I wanted something that wouldn’t fall off. The optician wasn’t sure she could do anything but did offer me some sports glasses designed for kids! They are goggle like and are really meant for playing football/rugby in. But I found they do the trick just so – and they take my prescription and they were a good price with safety lenses and full coatings (anti-scratch/glare/etc).

As rogerthecat pointed out above, Ingenie benefit financially as once you have a compulsory test you also have registration, and once you have registration you have an opportunity to compel insurance. And who sells insurance? Gary “Walkers” Lineker (through Ingenie). So BikeRadar/Future media are promoting compulsory insurance for cyclists?

Slate should be fine, get a nice thick bit. My granny had a slate lined bread oven. I use some left over lock block for lining my BBQ/out door oven. Keeps the heat nicely too (good density etc.).

Oh risky. Normally I’m out like said Nija Turtle. Last night I did a 45km ride (sounds better in KM) with just two bottles of water. No tools. No spares. No phone. Mostly a good 8 mile push from home. I didn’t mean to do it, it just sort of happened!

Probably a stupid question on my part but are you sure you have the correct size seat post? My Hope Eternity is a snug fit on my solaris (31.6mm) and stays up – without weight – without the seat clamp tightened.

The constant circular debates/expressions of opinion on helmets yes V helmets no, dedicated cycle lanes V integrated traffic measures etc etc ad infinitum isn’t really helped by a lack of good, clear research and plenty of it. And ok there is research, predominantly from Australia, Canada, Scandinavia and the Netherlands. So where are the studies focusing on increasing the take up of cycling in the UK? And the safety of road users – in particular cyclists? What research is being carried out? What has been carried out? What meta studies of global surveys? There is clearly a cultural difference between road users so what can we learn from other situations and what are specific to ourselves? Basing any legislation on the most opinionated/who so ever shouts the loudest is idiocy.

Compulsary helmet wearing is not the answer, High Viz Vests are. Yes, make everyone wear an HVV. All of the time. Everywhere. Last week I was merrily walking down the road and a person walked straight into me, they just hadn’t seen me, weren’t looking at all, very careless. Yep, it’s the logical conclusion. Compulsory HVV’s for all – should this be extended to mosh pits and the like, or would these and similar areas carry an exemption? Also, moving around your home, should they be worn indoors and out?

The death of the cyclist yesterday is tragic. But the debate that Wiggins’ comments have generated don’t seem terribly well reasoned (barring STW’s). Looking at ir_bandito’s video up there^^ road and taking into consideration many of the anecdotes shared on this forum road user education is a much bigger issue. FWIW out of habit I always/mostly wear a helmet.

On that note Mash or Beeb press release:

A BBC spokesman said: “Trevor’s style is a hybrid of commentary and beat poetry that appeals simultaneously to sports fans, soul music heads and lovers of avant garde spoken word performance who claim the BBC isn’t supporting niche arts.

Do people take the daily fail seriously? Ever? I always thought it was printed as a rather poor sixth year parody of satire by a fairly obnoxious and faintly (very) malicious teen? Shouldn’t it just be left in the corner and ignored?
