Nice video, great frames too but obviously Cotic being a very small company can’t change their bikes to 650b overnight, just as well most of us don’t think 650b makes much difference.

Sure it’s organ pain? Might just be muscle based, pain in the spine can spread to front of chest. WD40… WTF, where is this going.

Orange Subzero here – old version that came with 150mm forks and at one point 2008? They released it with 170mm THAT is a hardcore hardtail not this 120mm lark. Yes the fork dives, but the head angle means you don’t go too far forward. An adjustable fork is a good idea of course but I’ve yet to find one that’s reliable.

It’s not the kind of bike that I’d use for long XC days but I’ve done long days like Helvellyn on it – loads of fun.

nedrapier – good message that. Went to a good talk by Simon Yates a few years back – he finished with this Eric Shipton quote:

    There are few treasures of more lasting worth than the experience of a way of life that is in itself wholly satisfying. Such, after all, are the only possessions of which no fate, no cosmic catastrophe can deprive us;
nothing can alter the fact if for one moment in eternity we have really lived.

… deep, but true insn’t it!

That may have been the doc – ‘My right foot’? – a program on channel 4 I think, was the first thing I saw on him on TV, mostly on El Cap and Cerro Torre. 2003-ish I think.

Yeah it was as much his enthusiasm and attitude as the expeditions themselves that made it a fun talk.

Young girl in front of me had sent him a letter explaining that a school teacher of hers had asked her to write about an inspirational figure, the teacher unaware of Houlding had suggested Gary Barlow instead!!

I bought some of the Shimano BR-R517 ones that work with road levers as there was (yet again!!) a national shortage of avid BB7s. They work fine but I think bb7s would adjust easier with the turnable dial design rather than faffing with an allen key.

But beware that there was a product recall of the earlier BR-R515 which looks identical apart from the newer ones having a circle on them:

Just make sure you get the road version of any calliper, as most do a mtb and road model.

Just bought some Mucky Nutz ones – bought 3 in the end as they are half price at the mo – very light, seem to do the job so far.

People seem to forget Boardman’s past involvement in the Secret Squirrel Club – development of the Olympic bikes. Not sure in the real world if it effects the mountain bike designs but it must have some impact on the high end road bikes and TT machines. If they weren’t sold by spotty teenagers in Halfords relatively cheaply…

    – Five 🙂

I had a chat with a guy working in Biketreks in Ambleside a few years back when Lapierre Spicys were getting great magazine reviews (not that that means very much) he nicknamed them Snapierres due to the number of cracks in the swing arms. Haven’t heard much since so maybe the design has been changed. Either way, I’d prefer a five.

I doubt the High Latitude is £300, guy in the shop was ordering one in and said it was very cheap, he was getting it to ride until his titanium 20’er frame arrived. Kinda interested myself but put off by the rather weird colour.

Bike shop near me told me that Genesis are selling off their 2013 frames cheap, the High Latitude 29’er frames aren’t particularly slack but might be worth a look. 520 reynolds.

If it’s that bad is there not some pain killers you can use? If not, best to just massage it anyway, areas of scar tissue than can build up really don’t help in the long run.

Sad reality is that there are too many idiot drivers. I’m lucky that currently my road rides are on quiet roads, at the weekends in the summer I probably pass more road cyclists than cars on some rides. If there were more cars about I’d give in and just use the mountain bike. All my biking friends in London have a story to tell.

Cheers, I’m thinking a 20″ with a 50mm stem (or thereabouts) might work best.

Put another way, if my Cove Handjob was a full susser it couldn’t feel too long, trying to find a geometry chart online for Coves older bikes isn’t proving easy, would like to do a rough comparison.

Making an easily googled searchable blog post (free to do with WordPress, Blogger etc) about it that allows others to comment on it/contact you might be easier and more effective than posting on here.

Have a search about on the forum here, there was a discussion about money off the Boardman CX bikes, people were saying you can use the British Cycling membership on top of existing deals.

10mm I doubt you’ll notice much handling difference, just comfort.

    BB7 weights – I know you’ve the SL but in general – http://forums.mtbr.com/brake-time/definitive-avid-bb7-weight-thread-365630.html

I wouldn’t go under a 100 mm stem on a CX/Road bike. Low speed you won’t notice too much of an issue but riding fast downhill you want the stability of a longer stem hence why most pro road riders use 120 – 140s, that and the aero position.

There’s no threads on the cable guides for barrel adustment on my 2013 frame. Dunno if the 2014 is different . I put in some Jagwire in-line barrel adjusters.

Trafalgar square – I’d expect it to be extremely busy, we were there about 5 yrs ago and it was packed out and very noisy as you’d expect, any central public transport makes for a bit too much hassle on New Years but if you can walk to and from the hotel to a bridge on the Thames that might be better.

Watch enough Lucas Brunelle videos and you’ll be riding a road bike off road, slick tyres and all 8)

Certainly the 105 and Mavic Askiums on the Boardman make it great for the money. Can’t really argue with that build for the money. The Boardman CXs are darn good for the money too but seem to be cracking a lot according to that other thread.

Getting it from Halfords, maybe you can join British Cycling for whatever it is (£18/20 something) and get a further 10% off, enabling you spend more on the jacket etc.

If she doesn’t value your ideas of it being about seeing the end of the yr together/it being a family time that’s not cool. If she understands that but sees it as just another day/night and that you can do the family thing another time well that’s not so bad.

Either way this is Gary Barlow – partly responsible for the end of good music being on TV.

Pickenflick does look good! Personally I see Ti as more a frame for life option. I wish On-one would make a lighter, better looking more up to date aluminium CX frame than the Uncle John. I guess you could argue the carbon Dirty Disco is that frame, but obvs it’s not ali.

I got a road bike about 2 years ago, IMO mountain biking in great scenery is usually a better day out but going downhill at 50 mph is still a huge buzz 😀

At that price and above, most companies make a more ‘race orientated bike’ (Although still nowhere near as racey as a pro bike) and a more comfortable ‘sportive’ orientated bike. The difference being in the frame geometries. So for example Cannondale do the Caad 8 (race) and the Synapse (comfort).

Cannondale arguably still have some of the best (if not the best) alumminium frames. They hold their value very well too. (Check out the old Caad 9 frames on ebay, they still fetch high prices compared to competition). I think their geometry is spot on too. That’d be my choice although if you don’t mind having the Ford Focus of the bike world and want good value parts and frame for the price then a Boardman is good but they are a bit… boring.

Other are fine, nothing wrong with Giant – good for the money. Merida are a huge company but strangely not that well known over here, they actually make Specialized frames(!) Don’t bother with Whyte, Saracen or Charge.

Ypres was very interesting. That and parts of France I saw about 18 years ago, tbh the location wasn’t important at that age, it was the image of all the graves.

Kust to clarify, do those 140mm RCT3s on Chainreaction have everything with them to space them down to 120mm easily?

Keep umming and arhhing over whether to build a CX bike – Kinesis pro6 with parts I have or get a Clockwork or Solaris with a Rev and switch all my 26″ build to it…

Haven’t actually lived in Leeds, was closer to Bradford but I’ve not heard it mentioned as being rough out that way. Seems Ok from these local police/crime reports too:

NO_eyed_dear – I used to have mine on a 1997 carbon Giant MCM too! Non-team black one. Still got the RST mozo pro forks too. Maybe they are worth a few hundred.

The Ringle Moby post is very well made but £250! Pfffffft!
