Thanks Jamie. £179 for Apple to do it is quite steep, would prefer a cheaper alternative (I’m confident I could change it myself).

Cheers guys, 6.30 I’m going to be glued to the screen. Saw his talk in Buxton the other week, amazing stuff. Check out his other films if you’ve not.

I found out today Woody Guthrie’s landlord was Fred Trump – Donald’s father. Woody sang a song about him being a racist. Some things don’t change.

I wouldn’t get a moby one from chainreation btw, my battery stopped charging, assumed it was a loose connection so took it out (easy to do and they suggest you do so if not using for a while). Bloody impossible to get it back in. Poor design.

Which compressionless housing are people using with TRPs with success?

Thanks for all the info. The Shimano RS685s would be great at £250 but I’m reluctant to switch everything to 11 speed. If only they did a 10 speed version… sigh

Spyres are only £54 a piece on Merlin at the mo

I’d much rather have a segment. Orange struggled a bit selling them off from what I heard hence why they knocked the price down so cheap to sell them off. A friend broke the area where the rear brake attaches to the swingarm simply through normal use. My guess is it cracked first without him knowing and then failed completely. Orange have replaced it under warranty and given him a free re-spray – pretty good service but shame it happened in the first place.

Battled with this a bit in deciding which sized Kinesis Pro 6 CX bike to get. I’m 6 ft 2″ and very happy I got the 57 rater than 60. Sizing chart suggested I got the 60 but the standover height would have been too high. My legs are long too, if you ask me their sizing chart is a little out actually.

Yes they need to be disc compatible.

Kinesis crosslight 5T Disc – not actually out yet but will be soon.

Kinesis Tripster ATR or Decade whichever the aluminium one is.

Do you really need a front rack? This man certainly doesn’t think so 🙂 http://ultralightcycling.blogspot.co.uk/

My 2013 Croix de fer is 105 with mavic 719 mountainbike 29’er rims – weighs a bit at 26lbs but not thaaat heavy.

Thanks everyone, mostly very helpful. It’s the 105 5600 shifters and mech I have, from what most folk are saying here it seems I can only go up to a 28 in less I get the new mech as well as cassette.

Dales rider – I’m not super duper fit and I’m not super strong but if you look at the current wisdom of hill climbing it ain’t coming from Jan Ullrich’s style.

As it goes Froome was testing out triple chainsets recently and you should see just how low the gearing they used for mountain stages in the Giro was.

I always wonder how people financially support themselves on these year + long epics

Highly recommend Chile and Argentina as holiday/travel destinations. The Bolivian version of the Megavalanche is pretty nuts too.

Cheers all, I have the cable length so that there is virtually zero slack, pads are very close to rotors but still after they’ve heated up on a descent there is no chance of a decent bite.

Tempted to ditch these for some Avid bb7s but I’ll give them some more tinkering (again!) especially if they are being referred to as ‘awesome’.

Running them with 105 levers and the standard pads they cam with which are definitely well bedded in.

Personally I can’t see how an SDG bel air wouldn’t be comfy for anyone mind, used that for 1100 miles of touring last year. No problems.

All depends on arse shape, more specifically the distance between the sitting bones. Some shops will measure this for you, or rather you sit on a gel pad and and they measure the imprint distance. Specialized do it for free if you can get to one of their stores.

Everyone I know who rides Fox around here mentions about the frequent servicing, I know they are much more linear than Rockshox but I’d rather pay less and service something less. Just wondering if there’s any reasons not to go for the Revs. Any suggestion as to which model would be great too. I like simplicity, I’m not a fettler! 🙂

Have you looked at the frame angles, I’d have thought the Mega would be perhaps less of an all day bike with slacker angles specifically for Enduro racing but that’s just looking at it rather than studying geometry charts.

The Titus is or at least was from the guy who is now running Pivot bikes so don’t get too snobbish and rule them out as being ‘cheap’ or not as good as other brands because they are from On-one.

May as well go for a point of difference and get a 29’er if you want speed on fire roads. If you want real speed on fire roads get a CX bike.

Well they won’t grip as well as a mud tyre but in less it’s very muddy you’ll be alright.

Great advert for Adidas with the guy in the adidas T-shirt lingering behind Murray and then immediately after, adidas billboards with Murray were outside with some trapline about personality.

I’d like to have seen the Women’s track pursuit team get the team prize. They ‘had’ to give it to Murray though really with the popularity of Wimbledon.

Flexibility of back and legs and length of arms.

Don’t bounce when stretching and all that.

    Advertising hype/fashion… same old.

Prices are mental but then consider the increased cost of manufacturing, Shimano wacked up their prices.

I’m convinced the way to go is get a good set of components, whatever takes your fancy then get frames second hand or cheap last years etc, learn how to build bikes yourself and maintain them. Maybe I’m just cheap but I won’t be buying anything off the shelf in less it’s a killer deal or I win the lottery.

I have a friend who freaks out whenever he sees World Champ stripes anywhere other than the current world champ. He’d have a breakdown seeing that.

IMO a 6.2k bike is a false economy as it’ll depreciate faster than you can ride it so lucky it has so much off.

I also wouldn’t be tempted just because of the huge discount, the 6.2 K price tag is just daft to begin with. Get something that’ll last, and feels right to you.

29’er if you want an XC bike for mile munching or XC race. 650B for everything else especially more techy trails.

Get BB7s if you can get hold of them. I gave up and got Shimano BR 515s

I did Lands End to John O’ Groats on them, they seemed pretty poor which wan’t ideal going downhill fast with panniers…

Turns out they needed to be recalled too!!

    http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/nl/index/news_and_info/news/voluntary_recall_by.html

New ones are fine but BB7s have the edge on ease of adjustment.

I guess the point of the trip was to see partly what the trail was like rather than knowing straight out that it was going to be all perfect to ride. Not a trail centre is it.

She’s cool, well filmed, managed to not even look cold in the lock?! Not everything has to be full of riders with the skills to back flip a road bike.

If you’ve got the cash and you don’t want to settle for less. High end stuff holds it’s value too of course. I’d wait till Jan/Feb sales.
