if you just need a furrel then I would say 5mm… I could be wrong, but the goodridge cable I just put on is def bigger than the old cables I had

I beleive goodridge brake is 5mm (with the clear outer stripped off) or 6mm with it on and the gear cable should be 5mm (it is thicker than normal gear cable)

singlespeed.. I guess shaving my legs would be the next progression ;)

So far I love the 5.5 and know it was the right decision for a do it all machine, I guess it may be a case of save up for some light but tough wheels… cranks and tyres. My cassette & chain were near on top of the line SRAM so dont want to replace them for quite a while!

Ok.. I used to ride a Demo 8, commencal furious etc etc.. I love Downhill etc but after 2 bad accidents I decided to not focus on Going downhill, just ride and enjoy it.. but I am not an XC rider. So I need something … and I hate the phrase "all mountain" as light but as tough as possible. Now from reviews and personal conversations with other owners the 5.5 frame seemed ideal, light but very tough. A few I spoke to said they have used 36's and it was great, reduce the travel for XC or full travel for a good ragging, I have seen a video of someone chucking a 5.5 over a 30ft gap jump.. No I wont, but its nice to know it can take it. I know the 5.5 can be built either way XC or aggresive All Mountain… and by my past riding I need it to be the latter! so that is it really, It is my only bike that needs to do everything…. just if possible I need to shed a few LBS for the all day rides!

And yes I have comitted, going from the 32 forks to the 36's my crossrides where not compatible so it was a quick solution and at least a tough wheelset.. I can always look to upgrade the wheels in the future…

I agree that the wheels are the deal braker as it were… what would you recommend for a do it all set? need to run them for XC, bit of jumping and I do go to Cwm Carn so need to handle must stuff

Actually looking again its about 5 lbs it will put on, I am going from Fox 32 Talas to Fox 36 Talas and crossride wheels to Halo Freedom's.

The DX Pedals seemed quite light in hand not sure what light weight pedals are out there. I would like to shove some XTR cranks on but they are too much! Any light weight X-Type BB's Out there? I think realistically I could do the BB, HS, Pedals, perhaps the fork springs, brake levers, Tyres (around 2.3).

Demo 7, Commencal Furious, Mini DH, Intense Uzzi, Remedy… there are lots out there..

Personally I would go for the Uzzi or a furious (had a furious they are very nice)that said demos always ride well and do the job and dont break the bank!

Sadly one rules prevales all, if you dont have enough stopping distance your at fault! something I learnt a long time ago (not in a motor vehicle) on my mtb, crashed into a mate as I was 4 ft off his tail at speed, I now hang back a good 30ft for safety, same on the roads, they drive like idiots in Bristol and distance has saved me from 100's of accidents over the last few years, even if some prat overtakes etc I try to keep some distance just in case!

Well lets just say climbing is not my frtay but this climbs like a goat, with the DHX and propedal its fantastic, I just dont feel right with the Talas 32’s and would like to move up to 150mm’s

    Spankmonkey

spot on, I have a medium but run a 50mm stem… its a good stand over I am almost 6ft, it makes it a short bike but then I have come from DH bikes so didnt wat to go too far into the XC set up.

tbh it climbs well in 140, just seeing if I could go to 150mm 20mm bolt through forks, possible 36’s and still have the option to adjust the travel

6 months min if he behaves…. could be years, you never know the complications. my wrist has taken a good 2 years to be fit for anything. Best advice is dont push it, take it easy and listen to the surgeon!!

bit of a result, new GP and basically I have a suspected torn cuff and possibly trapezium as well, she located the exact point when she pushed I almost feinted …. so another course of diazepam, diclofenac and co-dyramol with a referal to physio. She said it was pretty bad and I need make sure I do very little, time to stare at the bike ….. again!

Drac – Thanks for the offer anyhow :)

Nick I will keep that in mind!

Just one last question for the medics on here, I am seeing my gp again tomorrow and will throw some ideas their way to get them thinking, before I do could a rotator cuff injury cause the pins and needles in the arm and leg? over the last 2 days it seems to have localised in my shoulder and arm, it almost feels like my shoulder is out (its not but feels it) my arm has gone weak (like you have slept on it and that feeling of not being in full control of your arm + the pins & needles)I still have pins & needles in my leg also but the shoulder and arm are 80% of the problem / pain. Just trying to think about things they need to investigate

Ah fitting .. you need to undo the outer shroud (large metal collar)you will need a small spanner for this. pull the insert out and take the olive off (metal ring) and put them back onto the new hose in the exact same way! the shroud should look like this

    The insert like this

    The olive like this

    Should all result in this

You dont need anything.. I just fitted some goodridge hose but used the old fittings from the hopes. cost was £15 for the hose (F&R) and thats it. put a cut into the hose (outer) about 12mm long on both ends, just cut one side, peel back the outer, fit the fittings as they were on the original hose, pull the outer back down, cover the cut with the goodridge tag. Bleed the brakes… Job done all for £15 :)

I contacted crc and a few others and was told I need the fitting kit £50 or so for f&r…. just as well I didnt listen to them or would have been £50 down the pan! I can take some photos of the set up and fitting if you want

The open system I have is totally open due to the mess my wrist was in, Ive had 3 op’s and am starting to think I may well have damaged the shoulder, neck at the same time as it is the same side. It could well have been my more recent fall when I broke ribs. I have been told it can take a while for some damage to show or cause a problem. Ah well if nothing else I have had a good rant and feel better for it, hopfully next week will get more progress.

I think tinsy you have hit this spot on with regard to dealing with the GP.

I called the Hospital today as I had an open system with them for my wrist when I shattered it…. so I can go back anytime with no referal. they said as it was my whole side I could not go back to orthopeadics.. this seemed daft to me as it could be an old injury from that accident. So my only option is the GP again (4th time) if things were getting beter I would be happy but they are getting worse. I was asked by NHS direct if my GP had, taken blood pressure, pulse, temperature, done a reflex test, tested for diabetes, refered me for an x-ray or CT…. they have done none of these. The doctor at NHS direct was some what fuming that they had done no tests and just sent me away. In her words, neglegent. And oh joy my left arm is totally numb as I type. i just want to see someone who can find the problem, having 2 kids and this problem, I am worried… extra stress from difficult GP’s is not helping
