reason I ask is I dont want to waste my time calling if its not the done thing… and I have posted 3 times my symptoms etc etc and had some good advice. cheers I will try and call them to see where they are, not really after the results just when I will get them!

I do think that many people are missing the issue here.. the wood is wrecked! dont get me wrong I ride there and have for a few years now but its a dump, litter, trees torn up…. not a great message by any means!

    nope trying to fit a 30.9 thomson post…. I have a 34.9 frame which has a shim incorporated to 31.6 …. seems daft I cannot fit a 30.9 in any way… grrrrrrr

Well one hit and Alu has crumpled.. and it has to be said many nackered frames are from hits on rocks …… so that test is a fair one!

I had a great conversation with a mechanic the other day about my carbon frame…. I admitted I was a ted tentative with carbon…. He said was out with the Scott crew, one of the tech blokes came off and his bike went over the side of the hill bounced 20 odd times… they walked down and it had a hole it it, he was amazed when the bloke dusted it off and got on, the mechanic said wtf are you doing… he rode off for the day and that evening they patched it up… I think in a nutshell carbon frames are far better than they were 5-10 years ago and are very durable and easy to repair! because old ones had a bad rep people just have an irrational fear of them! but technology has moved on… peoples attitudes have not………. all imho of course!

you will prob find the intrenal has come off the dial.. common issue with the Z1's I have to take mine apart 5 times in 5 months and screw it back on!.. best bet is to strip them back down and start from scratch!

not a yeti but rather embarrasing, I stripped my ransom down totally, greased everything but still had a creak… took it to Evans, 10 seconds and 1 properly tightened bolt and the noise had gone!!! the bolt was tight just not the correct torque!

rudi sorry I will tonight :)

I may try a ride and leave it in the middle ring and see how it goes if all is well i will strip the lot off and replace with a chain device!

im old and have a nackered body so yes I need the granny's

I will check my rear cassette later and post the spec… its just an idea at the moment to save weight and reduce bar clutter.

Clubber – I know I would get on with a 2×9 in theory but that defeats the object for me just loosing 1 chainring

only if it is A1.. any scratches etc will show up badly! I did not strip the forks and it was awful so i stripped my pain job off and the original paint and started again! yes it's a pain but the satisfaction is worth it! I preferred doing it myself rather than hand £60 over to someone. That said if DIY is not your thing then def go to a local sprayers!

Simon – I got around 7 coats from a can, all thin layers built up. I agree it chips easily compared to a pro job, but I will def be getting some heli tape to cover the frame

    I have done one

    http://spankmonkey.pinkbike.com/album/Retro-Marin-Restoration/

used palasticoat, primer 5 coats then 4 caots of colour and finally 5 protective coats..

pitfalls – you need a ventilated room and a very steady hand, luckily mine did not run anywhere, you really do need a lot of coats tho or it will chip easily, that said some heli tape will sort that out.

Cost me around £20 all in and a lot of time, you will need to nitromore your frame and sand it down with very fine sand paper, any bits on the frame will show, I took 2 weeks sanding and polishing it. All in just over 1 month of stripping, sanding, and spraying to get a nice finish! but tbh the finish is very good for that effort!

I all forks were for 160mm rotors unles you buy a new adaptor & disc? same with frames?, exceptions being likes of boxxers or other long travel forks which may take a minimum of 180 or 203?

    and one after that :)

just meant I was after a few urgent spares for a retro build

    Spankmonkey

sorry I meant 68 / 73mm. 73 I use none, 68 one on the drive side. Always measured up to a perfect 50mm chainline. couple of bikes I have had to use 2 on the drive side but that was with a demo which had a dished wheel

    Spankmonkey

if its 83mm bb I normally do 1 drive side the other 2 are normally spares for smaller BB's!

are there any mods for the 55 ata 2008?

    Spankmonkey

tbh I have the 55's on my ransom perhaps I was lucky, they work very well, I have used 66's, 36 talas and 32 talas and they work impecably, having the travel adjust and lock out is a bonus, my only downer is the weight of them! apart from that they are spot on… but I have been told when they do fek up they are not good! time will tell

sadly from his history some mugs have brought frames worth around £250 for £400… all he has done is re-spray them, swapped shocks around, probably shoved in £2 bearings and bobs your uncle a frame that "works better than factory"……

    I guess it really depends

1 – If the staff give a hoot about their job
2 – If they actually ride a bike

luckily the bloke who served me rode, understood my exact bike well; and had even ridden with People from Scott's UK division…. so I guess I was lucky!

Although Kimbers that really is bl00dy funny! I went to Halfrauds once and asked for hose, he went to look for a hoselock garden hose, I said no I want a brake hose and also I need an olive, he said black or green… I walked out

    Spankmonkey
    Free Member

    nope that's Halfrauds

perhaps I was lucky? the mechanic knew what he was doing and had serviced Ransoms before and knew it like the back of his hand!

I thought holding onto the bike for the day while I shopped was damn good of them! (Yes they probably did thrash it round town while I was away)

All in all I was impressed!

he said he has talent, skill put his life into that frame, the finish on the paint was not that good by any means!

    he also said

it,s a better performing frame than when it was new

    HOW

I love this listing of his.. pure freak

, i have just finished this weeks wages for 80 people, i have laid off 6 men, booked work for 75 men next week,

Ah Lester you brick… 80 minus 6 = 74, so how did you book work for 75? … lol you tool

    Maths = FAIL

    1. wetherspoons might be reallife and real beer to backward northerners

Epic fail again, Im from the South……

    1. my guess you have never eaten anywhere that you dont have to have chips and ketchup with everything!

Epic fail 3 – I have eaten with the Prince of Doha as his guest, should have cost £1000 per head, eaten at the ritz etc… over priced, over hyped, media generated tosh but hey at least I got a free drink. Give me weatherspoons any time, I hate posh resturants "can I have an ale please", "im sorry sir we only sell overpriced, bottled sh1te that you have never heard off, oh and it tastes bloody awful", "certainly I will have a bottle of gut rot, please take my spleen as a down payment"

technically speaking a frame will not instally fit anyone, so you can either add a longer / shorter stem you can use longer or shorter cranks, a layback post to make the frame feel larger (give more room in the cockpit) but…….. that puts your body further back over the rear wheel and can change your position over the cranks, so in a word you could end up being in a non ideal pedaling position, that said it may put you in a better position. basically you need to sit on your bike and ensure you have a straight ling down from your hips to the BB, if you are too far forward or back you can adjust your saddle position or change to a laybak post to adhjust until its right, as for the stem adjust so your not constantly leaning too far forward ot not too upright. TBH it is trial and error. Best bet is to google set up or bike radar is not too bad

ive no frame now, down to next man, got my profit, sad to see it go realy after all this fun

so what you mean is you sold it and you THINK it is not your problem now? well if it was / is stolen you would still get done for handling stolen goods… intelligence = fail

    Spankmonkey
    Free Member

bit longer stem to get you over the front or higher ride bars swept forward, perhaps slightly shorter travel forks (possibly if frame will allow) this will drop the head angle and again promote you further forward. I think really it depends on what you want to change in the handling? quicker steering, better pedaling, more or less grip / more or less responsive steering, better braking etc, change of body position?
