I used to live in Cambridge and moved due to the daft prices. Now in Bristol and got my house for £104k. There are new builds going up and the adverts all say you can move in for £800 inclusive all other bills paid, they are pert equity share so you only pay around £60k mortgage. So as long as you have £800 in your pocket its a very cheap way to buy, im sure there are other schemes over the uk, just do a bit of research. Best looking at the developers web sites

make sure you still download adobie flash player from the market, you can watch any films on the internet great for vimeo or pinkbike films. You can also you your mobile as a hotspot for your laptop or other device to connect to the internet. its a fair bit smoother and faster in all respects.

You can but it is what it is. The developer has had 1000's of complaints from others that cannot use the app, because he gave no instructions and no support, in fact some are trying to get the app banned from google, if you get it working it is very good, but getting it to work with all the steps you need to do is a nightmare. That said Playstation on your mobile :). I made it to help others and have a laugh at build a web site. Ive had around 300 messages of thanks and tbh I cannot be bothered to change it anymore, its there to help, and the background makes it stand out as to what its for…it does the job. ive not looked at the site for a good 3 weeks now. Just hope those who paid for the application can get it running. this all said it does show how good the droid is for games (those with 1g processor)

ive had the desire and an iphone side by side running the application (they do an iphone version also) and the droid is smoother.

If anyone does get the application read the tips page for improving performance. Turn off your Sense, wifi, gps and live wallpapers. You will be surprised how much your phone speeds up games and apps

You need to download it from android market, but that site has full instructions on how to use it. Its a site I made, sadly the developer has not updated the app or helped his customers, hence why I made the site

well all im going to say is I have PS1 games running in full graphics and they pull over 40fps. Also you can run different interfaces and roms with ease so its not as easy as saying it is slow. I ditched HTC sense as it speeded the phone up a lot. Having owned both I know there is 0 difference in actual real life speed and performance, not some lab test

have you actually tired one? lots of tests have shown the iphone 4 and desire run most apps at exactly the same speed with android on 2.1. Now with 2.2 (froyo) it can run up to 4 times faster. Lots of tests are pretty lame, like testing the iphone4 against a 2.1 droid, some are tested against lower end snapdragon mobiles. There is a great vid on youtube showing an iphone next to a desire and they run the same apps and web pages at the same time. There is little difference.

I have a Playstation emulator on my desire and it runs games like gran turismo just as fast as the original console, very fast indeed, why you would want it to run any faster i dont know. The snapdragon processor is not slow by any means. Froyo on a decent handset runs a dream

tbh not sure I would want a larger screen, the desire is already pretty damn big…. any larger you may as well get an ipad :)

there is not much of an update vs the original desire, you can run maps on the old one and with 2.2 (froyo) update out for Android the security on both devices will be the same. Only benefit for the HD is going from 5mp cam to an 8mp, other than that I cannot see any difference.

If its more expensive on contract i would get the original desire, if its the same then get the HD.

Honest question: what happens with speaker docks for HTC/Android phones? A trip to any electrical department these days will reveal tons of different docks for iPhone/Pods. Are they compatible with HTC phones too?

Yes you can use most dock stations with an HTC phone, most docking music player / speakers have a jack port in the back so you just get a double ended lead, one end to your phones earphone socket other into the speakers jack port.

some smart phones do have buttons….. you can just use the 4 buttons on the bottom of the desire to navigate everywhere.

im sure you do, I was putting that for others benefit in case they thought it was android based, the HD2 is/was a great phone, the next windows platform should be really good!!

I think for android some people have a quick go and dont like it but the big thing is android can be customised and tweaked, as stock its not that great, its also open source. I have a custom interface on my desire so its now as good as the iphone, if not a bit better for me anyway. You can change android in so many ways that you cannot with apple. I have had both an iphone and now the new desire. Tbh the andoid wins for a few reasons. It gets lots of apps and software whereas apple restrict what can go on theirs. Its cheaper by a long way on contract (£30 for the desire 600 mins, unlimited txts and internet + free phone) . Its also better at running multimedia on the web than the iphone. Stock android is not great and stock iphone vs stock desire the iphone would win, that I happily agree. However get the right interface on the droid and the right apps, it leaps up a lot. I also keep thinking android is still in its early days vs Iphone, it can only get better and better. With gingerbread on its way, it looks rosy.

The android cannot be compared to the iphone as there are tons of androind phones, I agree 95% of droid phones are worse than the Iphone, but there are a few such as the desire which compare very well.

btw I do have 3 other apple products and I do think they are great (older ipod, ipod touch etc)I really do think on the right handset Android is very good if you customise it to your needs, and open source for 3rd part software is nice. I just dont like apples stanglehold over what goes on the iphone.

I do laugh at parents who wont leave their kids with grandparents for a night or few, dont you trust your own parents? anyhow I guess its a personal decision and you do what you are happy with. I have a son who is 6 when he was just over 1 we went to NYC for 10 days. He was born at 27 week so very prem, he also had bad colic etc so the 1st 10 monts were a nightmare. It was the best break ever and we needed it, the garndparents loved it and had quality time. we now have a 1.5 year old daughter, we leave them both with grandparents for the odd night or weekend so we can have quality time and relax with other friends without running about after them. TBH after having a prem kid you re-evaluate what is acceptable or scary. Leaving my kids for a night or 2 compared to what they have been through is nothing. I have friends who treat their kids like they are made of glass, wont leave them even for 1 hr…. kids are far more robust and happy with other people than some think. A break to recharge the bateries is a good thing!

just got the new xbox 360 in black for £140. It will never get the ring of death, its very quiet compared to the old ones and connects to live wireless which means I can move it round the house as needed to different TV's. The live service is great, ok it costs but really it is far better than sony's offering, and one I am happy to pay for. The new console really is great! that said a 2nd hand older xbox for around £80 would be a bargain. My local game store are also selling off some games at £4 a pop, even some great multiplayer on lines ones. I have used the PS3 a few times and tbh they are very similar, both have equal graphics and both can push out 1080p on the right games. Really you cannot tell the difference in graphics side by side. Many mags and companies have done scientific tests and they all come up saying "they are equal"

For me the on-line service from xbox gives it the edge. If your not into blu ray should be an easy choice. Also the xbox is a lot cheaper.

you get 5mm and 6mm ones, make sure you have a 6mm and cut the outter off the hose, if its a tight fit pput a screw driver through the opening to prize it open a bit…..

do you mean the XC loop or the DH track? if the DH I would perhaps not… it Can be hard if your not up to it. The xc is fine……

cheers all, im not after super fast speed just dont want the xbox to keep dopping its connection whilst playing on-line. My laptop and phone never drop the connection but it is weak down stairs! My house has very old wires (1950's) so not sure if this is the best option or just get an extender / repeater?

guess im lucky with bristol, pop over the bridge to wales, cwm carn, etc or just pop over to the quantocks, plus all the trails around ashton court, lee woods etc. I cannot get the whole drive for 5-8 hrs for a ride, much prefer a local ride within an hr to get a full day out. But I guess for some its not an option, that said I have 2 kids so getting back at 10pm is not an option with "her indoors"

Still think CRC were correct. Technically the bar tape was not faulty it was more it just didn't suit your bars (regardless of if they were standard).

If an item is designed for a job it should do that job. Its not rocket science, the stuff does not fit STANDARD bars, therefore it is not fit for purpose! If you brought gloves with 1 finger missing, shoes that said size 10 but were more like a 12, pedals which were so small they were useless etc etc etc you would be hacked off. If it says what it does it should do it ,and it is not unreasonable to expect bar tape to cover standard bars! Fine if they were some weird design, oversize or custom made but we are talking standard bars here. Imagine Grips for a mountain bike that were a lose fit….. that be ok? There is no excuse in this day of age for shops to sell goods that they have not tested, not used and don’t do what they should! If CRC or any shop buys cr@p from some cheap manufacturer they have to be responsible for those goods and ensure they do what it says on the tin.

cheers guys, sorry just feeling really fekd off, I hoped to be back in the saddle now for the end of summer, didnt expect to be sorting out another 4 discs, I also have a curve in my lower spine, the neck op was a biggie and took a lot to get though, but the pain in my lower back is too bad to ride, I struggle just walking 100 meters. Your right its not an off the peg job so I may strip it down, give it a full grease up and store it away in the loft and hope I can ride this time next year!

had an iphone and now have the HTC desire, imho the desire wins for having flash support, download skyfire web browser and it will play anything! they are pretty similar apart from that. Tthe app store for android is getting bigger + you can get apps from 1000's of other sites. The camera is very good with face tracking. In built google sat nav is great and free, it has guided me to some very remote spots!!! ive got around 500 pics, 300 songs and 10 full films on mine and it has tons of space left. Watching films on the large screen is actually pretty good. The phone as stock is OK but get the right apps and it is simply great. The web browser is fantastic and it automatically finds wifi spots. You also get the choice to choose which browser you want to use from all downloaded ones. Same with films, movies, clips, it asks which app you want to open the clip / film with. All in all a very clever phone, its not that big once you have had it a while! it really is very similar to the iphone, its just the clearer large screen and flash support gets my vote. And its due a 2.2 upgrade soon, so will just get better. Lastly I got the phone free £25 pm with 600 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited web. I think apple offered me 200 mins & texts for £30 or something daft

its not about caving in…. its taking the appropriate route to getting better, Osteo, physio etc may help in some cases but not others, surgery is right in some, not others. I guess it depends how bad the issue is, what will fix it and in my case a Nuro surgeon made that judgement, he said it would never go away without surgery. Had I not "caved in" I would still be waking up every day in pain, spend my day in pain and repeat!….. I also have a curve in my spine which is crushing a few discs…. no amount of physio, Osteo etc is going to straighten it out.

waiting for the upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2, looks like the desire update wont be till Q4 this year….

Hi im 7 weeks post op had a disc taken out of my neck C6/7… I now have an artificial disc, much better than fusion in my opinion. I had pins, needles, pain and tight muscles in my left side for a year.. it ruined my life and I could not ride, with 2 kids it was awful and I could not pick them up. I was on 3 pain killers and taking over 30 tabs a day to get through…… Life was hell on earth. My neck is now almost back to normal after just 7 weeks and Im back to work. Yes its a big operation but it has tackled the issue, all the physio, chrio etc in the world did not cure it. Best thing ive ever had done! fusion on the other hand would have been a much longer recovery, plus fusion puts strain on the discs either side of a fusion and there is a risk of non fusion and loss of movement!! also I have spoken to lots of people who have avoided surgery but they struggle with re-lapses etc and go round in circles. I wanted the fixed and done option. The op was good around 3.5 hrs and the 1st week after is not fun, but after a few weeks I was much better and as I say 7 weeks on i am back to normal, back to work, got all my strength back in my arms, all the pins & needles and weekness has gone. So these issues are done and gone, no more messing around waiting for another bout of pain and problems. Sadly I also have a curve in my lower spine which is causing lots of pain and issues.. got an MRI on that tomorrow. But in a nut shell if the discs are that bad surgery is not a bad option if you want your life back!!!!! its worked for me… very well, I would def do it again in the same situation.

Yep had flu, chest infection and other problems after the op and daft pain. On an up today though :) got my mum and dad down to help with the kids so perhaps when Im a tad abtter I can get one of them to run me to yours for a beer!

Well im out of hospital and doing ok, ended up in for 3 days which was quick for my proceedure, was not allowed to stand for 2 days, managing to walk for 10 mins max now otherwise I end up dizzy, very sore and then sleep for a good 3 hours, No energy at all. But the op went well and I have an artificial titanium disc in my spine. cant drive for around 4 weeks and around 6 weeks till I can go back to work assuming all goes well. Hopefully the scar will tone down, looks like ive had a run in with Jigsaw!!
