Stepping stones at Dovedale have always been a hit with mine. Also Carsington Water, it’s always the kids number one request when we’re near Ashbourne.

Turner Hall Farm, in the Duddon Valley is a belter and you’re straight onto the far end of the Walna Scar. We rode from the tent last year. Loved it and will be heading back this summer.

I had a 1993 Bic Vivace that used to go like the stink. You’re right, the feeling is hard to beat and I still miss it. BUT, it is the most frustrating sport in the world. Waiting for the wind. Then when it does arrive it is a squally mess, which has you quickly changing down to smaller sails whilst getting battered by the wind on the shore whilst trying to find your downhaul tool that you bought last week leant to your mate and has now disappeared (do they still use them?). Then you get on, nail a jump and a perfect carve, and you’re top of the world!

Can’t wait, the sound track to the summer starts here. Would love the question marks over Hales to be removed by him scoring runs. Vince to do well too, then we have a side to take to Aus next winter.

I’ve got a Pentax K100D that I’m looking to sell on. It has been extremely well looked after and would be a lovely first DSLR. I’d be looking for a price well within your budget. Email in profile if you’re interested.

I’ve gone with the thorns too, couldn’t find anything shorter.

Just found these at superstar; crests on their switch hubs for £250; good deal?

Wow, that Norco is a stunner. I’ve been working on a 24″ bike for my (nearly) 8yo but nowhere near that class or cost. I’m more in the same camp as gibbon with that kona. Came by a Giant for £100 from a friend which had a horrible fork on it which has been binned in favour of a rigid which I managed to get from Frog, it’s really lightened it up despite it being chromo and was only £30. Next step is to get rid of the vile crankset, I’ve got a superstar NW 30T ready to go on which should help. Further down the line when he gets more keen I have a set of (second hand) SIDs coming but that’s going to need a new wheel as it’s V brakes at the moment so the links above are helpful, thanks.
I think I’m more excited about it than he is!

You’ve done the right thing going to the insurance company. We recently had something similar, agreed to do it outside of insurance as I was paranoid about premiums going up. Got the work done which he agreed to pay for and has just disappeared without footing the bill which we are are now stuck with. Insurance company can’t trace him, police aren’t interested, doesn’t help that my wife didn’t get his licence plate. Stupid scenario all round.

Doesn’t matter that it’s an old car. It is now damaged in a way that is no fault of your wife. Get the insurance to do what they’re there for!

We got around it by encouraging our lad to say

    “and to love my god”

leaves it nicely ambiguous as to who or what your god maybe

The cheap hooks do the job, but if you are tight on space then I’d recommend these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/steadyrack-classic-cycle-rack/

They allow you to rotate the bike to access more easily, when I did this with cheap hooks it caused the hook to makes it’s drilled hole bigger and eventually fall out and need redrilling and replugged every six months or so. These steady racks alleviate this problem and are really nice solid bits of kit, not cheap though, but sometimes it’s worth spending a little to get a good solution.

You may already know this, but I didn’t until I got there…..

Bird HQ is about a 20 min drive from the trails detailed on the map above. I had a tight schedule for the day so it eat into my riding time and you need to factor in lots of time to chat to Ben about specs (well you don’t have to but I’d recommend it as he’s a super knowledgable top guy). I had a great time and was convinced after one lap of the blue.

Interesting thread for me, I do research into how the dental profession is run. Main point to the sceptics is prevention. If you wait until you feel pain then treatment will be far more severe, think small filling versus root canal. So probably worth a regular check up. The evidence on frequency of attendance is very limited and very dependent on the patient, anywhere from 6 months to 24 months. Tooth decay grows slowly so should easily be identified over 2 years with decent xrays. Also don’t worry about the conveyor belt thing, the NHS top up the £18 so that they achieve decent hourly rates.

My aeris is on the way and I can’t wait. Then it might be time to upgrade the hardtail to a zero so I have a pair of birds to chose from!

I rode with the iride people, they were great. Picked up from hotel, drove out to trails and had a great half day of riding. They made it really nice and simple. With a bit of research you could probably sort it yourself and hire a car but I was there for work and just squeezed it in around other stuff.

I’d concentrate your hotel searching around the waterfront area of Cape Town, if you want to stay in the city itself.

Agreed. I love his music, or most of it anyway. But will I miss him? No I never met him, didn’t know him, I struggle to think of a way that his death will affect my life. The music lives on and will be cherished for ever more. Sad for the family, but people die every day.

I tried it and went back to Win 7. Main complaint was that I couldn’t get it to play a DVD. All of the work arounds I searched for didn’t work so I went back as that was a simple way to fix it. This may be an odd complaint but I can’t understand why they would remove this function, we use the PC hooked up to the TV as our DVD player so it’s pretty crucial for me.

Took my two boys aged 5 and 7 tonight and they loved it. They laughed, cheered, cried… If your 6 year old is cool with the violence of the other films then he’ll be fine. Watching it with them made it all the more special!

I’ve had one for a few years. Excellent bit of kit. Weight is the only downside for me. Roofbox have always had the spares I’ve needed and they have been free or very cheap. Great company from my experience. I’d have another one.

Basically do the new allotments climb up chinley churn instead of going left and following the line of the wall head straight up til you meet the ridge. Drop of the ridge, switchback towards the quarry. Lots of fun. We found it on strava it’s all labelled there, cheeky though.

Bless you – to be used only after sneezing in my opinion, agreed that over use of blessing is appalling.

As is the obsession with “amazing”. My primary school teacher had a crusade against “nice” saying there are much more descriptive words out there. I feel amazing is now firmly in this category too, the 21st century nice.

Not modern, or exotic, but will always be my favourite. Getting that first glimpse of it from the train is always special.

This was my approach… Start as for mbr, in fact do first 2/3s of it as far as bugsy (see map) then as you climb up towards pink heiffer bear left (marked on map as 80) then right and up the steep road to get to the top of Morticia, then down all that Adams family bit, bring you back to the pink heiffer climb, do that and back to the trail centre. Misses off the whole of the bottom loop which from my memory is pretty dull fire roads. Hope that makes some sense, it should from the map.
