This happened to my 16 year old son, on the canal in Stretford last week. They got away with his bike. He got a few scuffs as well. The scum bags described it as 3 2 tax, M32 area isn’t it! All reported to the police. We’re all going to be sticking to the road for our commuting for the foreseeable. Keep your whits about you folks.

That’s a beauty, would love one.

Was last there on new year’s day, machines have gone, but there were a couple of trees down on the final steeper bit of descent down to the reservoir. You could push round them, but spoilt it a bit (a lot). Top section is now just a flat fire road, it was never amazing anyway but now really flat. Still probably just about worth doing as it completes the loop nicely and I can’t figure out a neater way to do it, be interested to hear of other options.

Excellent, going tomorrow. Good news about the interval!

I’ve got a 2016 Leaf with the bigger battery. Happily gets me from south Manchester to ladybower and back with an xl Bird AM29 in the back (front wheel off). Range holding up well, the dash tells me it’ll do 100 miles some days, although it probably wouldn’t ever make that, but the 70 to 80 discussed above would be easy. I’d recommend.

It is possible to watch ad free on Europsort and Discovery+. I’ve definitely done this in previous years. Takes a bit of time to get used to the discovery app but it’s ok, I found gcn+ more clunky.

Sounds like a big day there. Look after yourself.

I got lured in by that extra 10% off, but then failed to spot where the code went. Hey-ho, still great price.

Also on the look out for a HG driver…

Depends where you are in Stockport but traffic permitting 30mins to Hayfield for some peak district delights. Would be worth it for me. If that sounds interesting sure we can post you some route suggestions.

Definitely number 2 from your list. Won’t be an easy conversation but an opportunity to have a positive impact on the choices available to them

When not using the chin guard I either hang it off my back pack, if wearing it, also have a hip pack that I use more often which I added a velcro strap that I can thread it on. Never ride without either of those. Could try a velcro strap off a belt loop of your shorts maybe if you don’t have a pack. Sometimes just dangle it off the bars, but it is annoying and rattles.

I’m generally first up climbs with my mates so gives me something to faff with while I wait!

Mine is a Bell super and the clippy bits work well once you have the knack, had it about 2 years

I take mine on and off, particularly in summer and I know the route well so can time when it’s worth removing. I run hot and would rather not wear it but did a face slide a few years back that makes it worth the faff for me.

Mine has had a couple of episodes of being stuck, with the clamping handle up or locked. A liberal squirt of GT85 down the key hole or around the various pivot points brings it back to life. Surely you have some GT85 with you?

Was just about to add a link to the thread that the generalist dropped in there. The info was spot on, we had a great day round there in May, as other have said R&R was a highlight, also really enjoyed yer maw on Athol, the other side of the road. Sorry feel bad I never dropped a thanks into that other thread @LD and @thegeneralist really was very helpful!

Not directly answering your question, but I recently used the standard service and got it back in 2 weeks.

Thanks very much @LD exactly what I was after. Watching videos has left me a bit dizzy with choice, that summary is spot on!

Great write up, inspiring trip. I definitely echo that thought of having had enough of repeating the same trails. Would be interested to hear what you rode at Dunkeld, heading up there in May and not quite sure where to start. Thanks

Completely agree scud (and others). Funny you mention John Peel, I remember that hitting me really hard too. Something about the cosy nature of radio and the podcast that makes you feel close to these people. Was explaining it to my wife at lunchtime and just choked up. Orla has posted a lovely piece on instagram, worth seeking out.

Fatherland, Robert Harris, I would recommend if you are after fiction.

Making History, Stephen Fry, also sort of fits into your category.

Good point on the other direction suggestion. Jacobs into Edale is obviously great, but if heading from New Mills I’d struggle to fit in any other really good bits.

Haven’t got a gpx to share I’m afraid, but going from edale to marple I would do the following. How well do you know the area? See if this gives you enough to go on, I can flesh it out if needs be.

From edale up chapel gate, rushops edge, roych clough, south head, down the campsite into hayfield, up twenty trees (some call it snake path) to shooting cabins and descent, up to matley moor, round lantern pike to do little mill to rowarth, then bit of road to get your choice of marple descents to roman lakes (I’d go linnets clough). Pint and grub in the Norfolk and train bike from Marple. Be a good ride that!

Yep, second for Stockport, done a couple of frames for me, always a top job. I strip mine and leave them to do the masking.

I picked up the wooden horse from a similar thread on here a few years ago, really enjoyed it.

The one that stands out for me is Empire of the Sun, JG Ballard. It’s a Japanese camp and semi-autobiographical, truly stunning and haunting.

I’d just go superstar, £35, mine have all just worked, no problems, can get pretty colours too if that’s your thing.

The cheaper fsa ones are probably for straight steerer and not zero stack.

I looked at the airshot ones, but I just picked up a fire extinguisher for £5 and I’m going ghetto. If I get the vouchers then there is always something I need from CRC.

I got the email from CRC to return it but their returns system won’t let me because they have a 12 month returns policy and I bought it 14 months ago. Obviously they’re not responding to my messages, classic eh! Anyone found a way around that?

What are they doing with the data?

I would recommend watching The Great Hack on netflix, it summarise my concerns very nicely.
