Think I’ll dig deeper into box.net[/url]. Have tons of shared files on there already – just haven’t bothered checking out the collaborative side enough. Me reckons it could do the trick.

DB is great but a lot of my clients (predominantly public sector) can’t install it. Most of them have trouble with GDocs too so I’m hoping this is a better bet. Have tried umpteen collaborative tools and am yet to find something that I and ‘everyone’ else likes and can use.

Just remembered a friend gets JL discount so I might have to put the old charm hat on. Even better if their 2 yr warranty is sound.

Cheers guys. That makes the non 3G the favourite. Now to decide on 2 vs 3.

The other question of course is to 3G or not to 3G.

Noticed someone recently using their iPhone to connect their non 3G iPad. Is that possible without jailbreaking?

Hmm, I’m in the same boat. We don’t need an iPad (or any tablet) but I’d really like one. Am trying to justify it though.

    It is 2048×1536 pixels, versus 1024×768 of the 1 & 2 models.
    So double the resolution.

If those are the correct resolutions then the 3 is in fact quadruple the others.

I’ve had an iP4 for nearly 2 years and the screen is incredible. That’s one reason alone I’d like the 3 over the 2 – I know how good the screen is.

Rumours of the 4 coming out by Xmas are probably BS but maybe another reason to hang fire for now.

    Tis a tough call.

Although not strictly legal on a bike, I did a big chunk of the coastal path during a few heatwaves back in 03. Was positively primeval in parts. I’d love to go back there and run it.

There’s deff a previous trail down that hill…….

That’s exactly what struck me. 0:40 “No other mountain biker has ever been to Cameron to ride these lines …” yet it’s plain to see that somebody sure as hell has been there. Perhaps Mr Berrecloth himself?

I’m with Zen at the moment. No bundled router, not tied to any particular hardware.

Same here – excellent customer service as has been mentioned already.

    TP-Link TD-W8960N works for me (35 quid)

Been using one of these for a year. Have had to reboot it virtually every day for the last few weeks. Unsure what’s going wrong but at least it’s back up n running within a minute or so.

IMO the driving bit should be the last thing you let them do. Best to qualify their interest first.

If I trust the person then I let them drive (unless they’re happy for me to). If I don’t trust them or don’t think they’re serious about buying then I definitely drive.

Trust me TJ, the bloke is a nasty piece of work. Sure, there will always be things the mother can do differently etc – but she is not the aggressor in this.

Apparently the court order was set up via a civil court as opposed to a criminal court. Allegedly that’s the reason the police will not intervene regardless – I don’t know how true that is of course.

The father has also created his own version of events by telling the mother (in an email) that her behaviour was pretty psychotic when arriving to pick him up, hence he kept hold of the boy for another 24hrs for his own safety! The bloke is a ****.

If I was that worried about my sons welfare on his access visits then I would cease the contact until the next court hearing.

Agreed. But the mother is scared of breaking the order in case the consequences come back on her. Might be something she has to consider though.

It sounds a bit more like they are still emotionally involved and angry (the mum and dad i mean) and are using the son to get at each other.

Not a chance. Couldn’t be further from the truth.

    residency order in place.

I know the boy should have been handed over by 6pm Sunday. Turns out it was yesterday afternoon that they finally got him. They’ve now gone away for a few days.

    – One thing i do know is the police will not get involved unless there is a residency order in place
    – social services
    – NSPCC
    – fully document all breaches
    – Is there a power of arrest attached to the court order?

Thanks for your comments guys – well, those that are sensible anyway. This is not a nice situation, but believe me when I say we’re not interfering. We see the mother (and son/husband) pretty much every day and are good friends. But they’re at a loss as to why they (particularly the son) have to put up with this crap. Hence friends like us are seeing what options they have.

@project and qwerty: I understand what you’re saying so let me elaborate …

We’ve known the father for a few years and can confirm he’s a nasty, controlling, bitter and twisted individual. He does not have his son’s interests at heart – he’s only interested in himself and how he can go about controlling/manipulating others. He’s not even what I’d call a “point scorer” – he just likes to f&*k people up. IMO he’s mentally ill – but in a truly despicable way.

As for the concern regarding physical abuse, the bloke sadly has previous (thankfully not involving a minor). Not going to go into details naturally.

Trust me, if you met the guy you really wouldn’t chose to be in his company for long. In fact, you’d probably make your excuses and walk on.

He’s really messing people up here and so far nobody is able to stop it.

I know SS has come up in conversations but I can’t remember to what degree.

I figured it would be a case of: document every incident when the father breaks the order > collate together > show to solicitor > discuss resolution that’s in the best interested of the kid > job done > simples. But apparently not.

What’s really sad is that the boy is only now admitting to many of these things because his conscience is somehow kicking in.

Agreed – not necessarily expecting accurate legal advice unless someone really does know what they’re on about. More a case of seeing if anyone (sadly) has experience of this and can advise.

IE9? Tis even worse than IE8 etc. A truly horrible browser IMO.

CB may be a small outfit but they’re pretty switched on and plenty of their machines get top marks in various reviews. I’m well happy with my build (about 16 months old now).

3 bed cottage here (mixture of 16th-19th centuries) and we get through about 1500l/pa. If you want to save money then buy in the summer/autumn – only problem there is the risk of theft.

Tip: always speak to the tanker driver. They’re pretty sound and can give you a heads up on any thefts in the area etc.

Bloody hell. Didn’t think this would generate that much debate!

Couldn’t reply yesterday due to looking after little monkey until bedtime then had a mate over for dinner.

Party kicked off at 6pm but it seems the music was kept low and reserved for the marque furthest away – so we hardly heard a thing 🙂 The only disturbance was at 10:30 when they fired off about 10 mins of mega fireworks accompanied by music at the same volume they sound tested earlier. Looked and sounded like Kabul yet little monkey somehow slept right through. No idea how. Party then carried on as before and all was well.

Turns out it was the son’s 21st. They’re absolutely minted (it’s a £25m rebuild – one of several homes) and no expense was spared. They even laid on a shuttle bus for those parking in the field so they didn’t have to walk 100yds to the house!

All in all, happy days all round. And cheers for the replies everyone.

That’s what I was hoping but our council’s website states there is no law regarding times or level of noise. Nice. Am thinking there might be some “countryside” law that somehow applies?

If you have any questions about the spec then call CB – they’ll talk you through any recommended changes etc. Best to ask now rather than in 1yr when you realise you should’ve specced a different mobo etc.

As had been said already, I’d stay clear of pre 2003 models.

We (with previous partner) had a new 2003 TD4 and it was great for the 2-3 years of ownership. No mechanical issues. All that went wrong was the rear window dropping on occasion – was fixed under warranty.

We also had a fully loaded 2006 HSE a couple of years ago. Again, mechanically sound but did have (known) problems with a couple of door seals. Warranty only covered 50% of cost.

Both were autos and I reckon we got 30mpg at best on long hauls.

Wouldn’t say they have a huge amount of carry space either.

Still sound agricultural, have barely any acceleration and incredibly dull cockpit.

I’ll have another play on the test ones in Carphonewarehouse

I’d do that with any phone you’re considering. They’re very subjective things so make sure you test as many areas as you can.

Your second con worries me though.

Put it this way, it could be better on all those counts. It’s all workable but IMO seems to have stood still while the rest of the OS has improved. Am not even sure why I don’t really like the call functionality – something about it just irks me. Calendar UI is just shit though.

I’ve had mine for over 18 months and it’s an awesome piece of kit. Previous two phones were Android- and Windows-based which were very underwhelming comparison.

    Pros
    – still has the best overall interface and OS IMO
    – app store: everything you could think of to make certain aspects of your day to day life better/easier
    – very durable and stable: have only rebooted mine about 3 times ever
    – good battery
    – amazing display: pi55es over the competition
    – recent OS upgrade has improved everyday usage too, e.g. notifications (yes, Android had it 2 years before, but iOS version looks better 🙂 )

    Cons
    – normally expensive (even the insurance can be £15/m)
    – unintuitive phone, messaging and calendar functionality
    – only truly customisable via jailbreaking

Those cons would probably be enough for me to not get another one if I ONLY wanted a cheap phone for calls/texting/calendar stuff. But if you want the other bits then it’s either one of these or a top end Android.

EDIT: doubt I’ll bother with the upgrade to 5 unless it does something revolutionary. No need to IMO because it’s the OS and app store that still make it the best device for me. Although the chances are I’ll be able to buy the 5 and sell my 4 and be in profit, so I might get one …
