Strange timing this as I looked up some of his old vids a few months ago to see if he was still in the hurt game. His efforts back in the day were both hilarious and commendable.

Not going to view his new stuff nor make any comments.

Lost interested in Mando S1 around E5.

Liked bits of Boba Fett, but obvs not the mods and ridiculously shonky showdown.

Also liked Obi Wan but don’t really know why – not a fan of McGregor even though he was better in this than the films.

Didn’t buy into the hype around Andor. First 3 episodes were good, but felt it tailed off after those. The prison scenes felt repetitive and wooden.

It’s odd for me to say the above because I love the Star Wars universe, but none of the series are doing it for mw.

Kinell. Anderson nicks it and NZ win by 1 run, having had the umpire not give a wide for the previous ball.

Today’s conclusion has brought an astonishing end to a crazy 5 days. Plenty for Team Eng to digest as preparation for the Ashes.

    Anyway, it’s 3:15am and I’m off for some z’s.

Jeez, Foakes gone with 7 runs needed. In comes Anderson…

Well, I was planning on staying up to see Stokes and Root bring it home, but both have fallen whilst hooking Wagner in a couple of overs and that might be game over. I think both players could have left those shots alone, but hey, I’m not the one in the middle.

Maybe Foakes and the Nighthawk can still deliver…

I find it’s best to download the route and check it appears on your map, ie at home or wherever you definitely have signal. This way, it should remain active for when you’re ready to start.

Same here. Watched those 3 wickets fall and thought the worst. Made it to lunch then fell asleep but kept the commentary on. Woke at 4:30 listening to some filler chat and assumed we’d been bowled out and the Kiwi openers were padding up. Checked phone and couldn’t believe Root and Brook had added nigh on 300 runs before rain. Another bonkers day.

So when do man u play their European stuff?

Return leg at home to Barca tomorrow. 2-2 last week.

Not sure how I feel about this one TBH. Win it and possibly go all the way and pick up the EL cup, but how much might those Thu night games cost us in the league (and any potential FA cup run)? Wasn’t bothered last time we won it with Jose. Can’t see winning the league, but second place is on.

Wow. Day 3 is turning into something else. Quick fire runs in the first session, a more sedate (by Eng’s recent standards anyway) middle session, then Broad having one of his spells and demolishing the NZ top order.

I wouldn’t risk it on a gravel bike because those flinty descents (many of which are quite rapid) could easily shred your rubber. Taking banks to the side isn’t always viable. That’s just my tuppence though, because plenty of people have done it without major issues.

The weather, as mentioned, could be damn hot, and you’ll have nowhere to hide because the whole ridge is exposed. Take sunscreen and plenty of water (and note tap points).

I’ve not ridden it all in one go, but I’ve done many miles down there and it’s bloody hard work. Memorable scenery though, and a real feel for its neolithic history.

Great. Just in time for another ‘new manager bounce’ for our next 2 games. Hopefully we’ll hammer them unlike the dog5h1t performances we put in against Wolves and Villa in the same circumstances.

A few elements were rather contrived in S3, eg teacher rear-ending the pharmacist outside his house, but I think the finale made up for that.

Not seeing the resolution of the dodgy pharmacist side story was a bit of a disappointment but on the whole, it was gripping and satisfying drama.

That whole thread wasn’t central to S3, particularly CC vs TLR, so IMO it made sense to have the audience read between the lines on how it was resolved once CC had shared her bit of intel at the end.

Xpelair here too. The wiring in some of our fittings, particularly lights, is bonkers, so I took photos when removing the fan to ensure I could reverse fit the new one. Worked great for 3 years then stopped spinning up. Bought another one and that’s been fine for a year or so.

I do like Punk IPA but BrewDog’s shenanigans e.g. marketing scams, bullying, gold cans etc. makes me think I don’t want to give those idiots a penny. I’d rather buy local beer or beer from people who aren’t bullshitting bullies etc.

… I’m not really a fan of the guy who runs the company… Tastes like fizzy pop

Yup. I avoid Brewdog for all of those reasons. Plenty of better options out there.

Out of the area being planned I know Redlands (east of CH Lane) best and I’d say the main issue for MTB is liability.
FE seem to have a relaxed attitude putting some signs up saying “Do not ride here – its not safe” whilst being quite sympathetic to not blocking trails deliberately.

What’s the current state of play around Redlands. Back in the good old days we had the likes of SL (the last stretch), WOM, Mangrove Alley and many others, then the anti-MTB attitude shot up and we were told to pretty much stick to fire roads. It remained that way for years, with a few peeps sneaking in some trails here and there. But recently I’ve seen a lot more activity, with many MTBers saying the openly ride wherever they want.

So SA finish their innings at 6 an over, then Roy and Malan kick off Eng’s reply with 10 an over before settling into a slightly less aggressive rhythm. Probably as expected.

How much memory and what size disk is useful minimum?

8Gb is plenty for most everyday consumer tasks, but upgrading to 16Gb for £200 gives that extra bit of future proofing.

HDD really depends on what you’re going to keep on the machine and how much cloud you use.

FTR I opted for 16/512 then after a few months picked up a Samsung T7 1Tb SSD for £100. Latter houses all my FCP projects and they run almost as fast off the drive as they do natively – any difference is negligible. This equates to 1.5Tb for £300 instead of 1Tb for £400.

Lovely footage popping up on YouTube of Donald’s touching eulogy for ‘Diamond’ – half of the republican commentator double act ‘Diamond and Silk’ – cartwheeling gracefully from complaining that its taking too long and he has places to be, via rambling about inflation and what the price of a gallon of gas means to a hospital through to Arnold Swartzneger getting terrible ratings when he took over on the Apprentice, and how Martha Stewart was even worse.

    Just watched it.

He really is the most narcissistic, sociopathic car crash of a human being.

I was going to ask, is it something that would be more rewarding if you’re familiar with the games?

I have the original on the PS3 but I think I’ve spent a total of about one evening with it.

I started TLOU (the original) in 2017 and only finished it last weekend because I wanted to start on Pt2 before I binge the series when S1 wraps up.

The game itself has I think been re-released twice since 2013; Remastered = PS4/Pro enhanced, and Part 1 = PS5 enhanced. It’s brilliant, whichever version you play. Possibly not imperative to watching the TV series, but there’s certainly some back story in there.

I picked up a mint 3 month old S5 SE for about £200 because I just wanted the basic functionality but with decent speed and screen. It’s great at what it does, ie it tells the time, sends me notifications of everything I want to keep tabs on, and lets me call when away from phone. Fitness stuff is basic but I use my phone for that. I wouldn’t want to pay the crazy prices for a full fat model. YMMV. From what I see, the new SE is a bit bigger and a bit faster.

FTR mine is nice and snappy – no lag at all.

A mate of a mate popped round 2 years to quote on some work and it equated to £350/day. Apparently he’s exceptional at what he does, but I’d only consider that if the scope and resulting transformation was genuinely worth it.

FTR a mate and I did it ourselves.

I should add that another mate of a mate was roughly a third of that, but his quote was so vague that I had no idea what he was really going to deliver on. Other quotes were in the middle, including one from a guy who was only prepared to cost it up once I’d committed to him doing the job. I told it doesn’t work like that.

his pace when he puts the afterburners on is crazy. He is seriously quick!

I disagree. He showed a bit of pace tonight when ran down the wing old skool style and tried to get in front of the tracker before the ball went out. But he rarely loses his marker in a foot race because he always slows down to come inside on his left foot. I’ve never known a player more one-footed. Ridiculous.

Didn’t see the game – what was Antony like? For the money I’d be expecting a lot more from him, in the games I’ve seen him play. Early days I guess.

His usual one-footed, scarper down the wing, drag it back, step inside, pass it back self.

He’s had some good moments since arriving, but he’s nothing like the player he was in that farmers league. Give him time and he may adapt.

Garnacho is much livelier and direct.

Don’t get how the pen wasn’t properly reviewed and given. Some BS about not being a clear and obvious error.

I’ve had a 16Gb 8/8 M1 MBA since they launched (Nov 2020) and it’s capacity to get stuff done, including video/image editing with loads of other apps running in the background, and extending to a 4k display, without any noise or effort still astounds me.

    They absolutely nailed AS.

so he probably wasn’t talking complete nonsense.

Agreed. I did question his intent before he set off to have a look, but his rambling explanation went rather leftfield so I figured I’d give him the benefit of any doubt.

Just remembered that last summer I’d given up trying to find a decent 26er for 11yr old monkey for fair money, then up popped someone on FB about 20 mins away, selling exactly what I wanted. A quick text convo with what turned out to be the boy’s mum convinced me it was a good ‘un and it sure was. Had a good chat with her when collecting, and her son is now mates with my son at his new school.

I had a chap buy my carbon 26″ frame on FB last year. He said he was making up a hybrid for his brother and had a set of 29er forks and wheels, and just wanted a 26″ carbon frame so he could raise the bike up. WTF? Anyway, he got another mate to drive him 50 miles to see it, then said he only had half the money because he had to pay his mate extra money for driving. FFS, that’s not my problem, so I told him to stop at a cash machine in the next town. Sure enough he got the dough and no doubt had fun making his mutant 26″ 29er.

Some people try it on but do come good.

Got the missus a Montane Ground Control Jacket (from the original PSA) and the zip has already broken after being worn maybe 20 times. The zip on my Extreme (bought at the same time) has been clunky for a few weeks too, and that’s not been warn much more. Jackets very nice, but shit zips. Warranty claim started.

How feasible is it to look for another role (within the same company or elsewhere)?

I’ve been pi55ed off in past jobs and either found another role internally, discussed voluntary redundancy, or left for something better.

Read The Stone Man a few months ago having grown increasingly curious about all the hype. Loved the pacing and dialogue, but ultimately found it unsatisfying because the ending provided no answers and simply encouraged one to read the sequel. Not for me.

Just finished Sherlock Holmes and the Shadwell Shadows (Cthulu Casebook 1) on Audible. A rather good romp and provides an alternative take on how Holmes and Watson formed their bond whilst tackling a Lovecraftian horror. It also happens to mention a portal to the Ancient Ones literally up the road from me.

Just restarted Rivers of London having given up on it several years ago. I know there are some Aaronovitch fans on here too.

It’s been getting lots of praise from critics and fans of the games. Like others have said, I’ll wait until the last couple of episodes then rejoin NowTV and binge it.

This also reminds me that I am yet to finish TLOU 1 (at the University level) and yet to start TLOU 2. One day…

Our group are halfway through the Masks of Nyarlathotep RPG campaign, having survived Peru, New York, England and about to embark for Cairo. It’s taken about 7 months so far, playing roughly once per week. It’s very investigative and we’ve all nearly died at various points, but our keeper is cool and we all have a laugh.

@spacemonkey – thanks for the Gloomhaven feedback. sounds like it has pro’s and con’s. Isnt Frosthaven the same as gloom just in a different environment?

FH is the sequel, with similar – but streamlined – gameplay, and more focus on resource gathering and town building, ie a bit leaner but also bigger.

Get JOTL and see how you get on with it. You’ll pretty much get your money back if you decide to sell it.

I’ve started playing Gloomhaven Digital this week, holy crap, it’s even better than the board game!

    The one on Steam?

Ticket to Ride Europe is still my favourite. Port Royal is great too, but the wife and kids have played it more, so I get slaughtered every time.

We got this last year based on reviews/hype and all agreed it was just plain dull. I get the mechanics and the aim, and I guess if you play it with enthusiasts them it’s probably okay, but doesn’t do it for us.

Has anyone invested a large chunk of their life into Gloomhaven?

I keep hearing really good things and me and my two gaming buddies are up for it…. But it seems pretty serious!

Or are there any stepping stone games to build us up to it?

Similar position a year ago. Wanted the full fat GH but couldn’t justify the outlay, the table space or the time to play it. So we got Jaws of the Lion and it’s a bloody good intro to GH. The first 5 scenarios teach you the core elements and are an excellent example of how to onboard players.

Monkey jnr and I smashed through the first 7-8 quests in a few days and loved the combat mechanics. However, the core gameplay is too similar/repetitive with each quest, the story does nothing to engage you, and there are quite a few stats/bits of admin to manage.

I started looking around for an accompanying app over Xmas because I wanted to give it another go and found Gloomhaven Helper. Unfortunately the mobile apps have been taken down after the dev fell out with the GH founder, but the Windows version is genuinely excellent in the way it manages stats/admin. Saves a lot of time and faff.

Using the app we did a few more quests but still can’t get past the repetitive gameplay. I reckon playing it with fans would be cool because combat is brilliant and it calls on you to adjust your tactics when things go awry.

JOTL often available for £35 or so. Bargain IMO, even for full RRP.

GH recently available for £95 from Chaos Cards.

I’ve had my eye of FrostHaven for a while, and reckon I’ll snap it up one day and just sit and stare at the innards!

I ended up relying far too much on bread and crisps last year so I’m now trying various quick and healthy options, typically including any combination of the following (often sprinkled with a mix of midlife spices and/or flaxseed, chia seeds etc):

    – tuna
    – mackerel pate (homemade)
    – scrambled eggs with ham/chorizo/anything
    – stir fry veg and rice noodles
    – mixed beans

Sometimes I use one of these…

The Protein Works savoury meal - banging burrito

as a base and throw in extras.

Have also started making some healthier sweet treats devoid of nasty flour/sugar/carbs, eg chocolate brownies, coconut and peanut butter energy balls etc

Trying to replace my go to habits with better options.

+1 The Wire. Friend talked about it all the time when it was airing in the UK all those years ago but we weren’t interested. Picked up the DVD box set a few years later and smashed through S1-3.

The missus only got round to watching Breaking Bad 2 years ago and binged it in a few weeks.

EDIT: Watched Generation Kill a few years after its release. Bloody good.
