That X Crow looks the dogs – serious discounts on frames at the minute too. But add everything else and it’s heading for double the UJ. Wish I could justify it but can’t 🙁

Cheers guys. I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I’ll be looking for now. Just need some time to spec it.

I don’t have any of that anyway.

Think I’ll start with drops and see how it goes. Ta

    Cool.

Are you mainly on drops, even for the more technical stuff? Does it make much difference? A mate won’t touch them and swears by flats only. But I quite fancy reverting to my old road racing days and giving drops a go. Might well have to get some flats anyway.

The Belmont Descent snaps CX frames clean in half. FACT!

Better the frame and not the rider.

Sounds pretty cool so far then; rocks, ND, SDW etc.

I’m guessing then that tyres and drivetrain make a (fairly?) big difference to speed?

Ideally would like a set-up for getting the miles in and another for roughing it. So is it normally pretty easy/quick to change front and rear cogs, or do you have to faff around and have different hubs and/or anything else?

everything on valentines day is just charged at a premium

That’s my experience too. Have never had anything (restaurant-wise) above the norm, even in one place where it was £50p/h before drinks.

I think we’ve stayed at home the last 4-5 years and just got stuck into some proper home-cooked stuff; normally something like fillet steak, stilton sauce, dauphinoise and asparageezers.

Open Project is another option – somewhat cheaper and less complex.

Depends on what you want to achieve though – plenty of heavily customised spreadsheets out there (for minimal cost) that might do the job.

I think a guideline is something like 1 litre/hour, but this will probably depend on your size etc.

I take 3 litres (sometimes water, sometimes Torq or whatever) for any 3-5 hour ride, but know I could take more. However, I know loads of bikers who eat and drink very little and appear fine – even the big lads. It’s a weird one, but IME I need to drink a fair amount regardless.

EDIT: BTW I don’t know if dehydration is causing your problem here – could be something totally unrelated. Perhaps check on a medical forum?

Rachel, there will be no updating necessary. This will be a one-off – at least until 4-5 years have passed. Even then, it’s unlikely they’ll need changing.

It’s literally a case of wrapping them up in SWFs, pushing them into our content, and that’s it.

    spacemonkey

SlideShowPro looks good (for a lot of stuff), but it appears the SWF version requires HTML editing … which isn’t an option with what we’re trying to achieve. Hence why the FLV must have a self-contained player bundled up in the SWF output.

    It’ll be a right pain to maintain…

Perhaps I’m missing something but why?

    I’m finding the requirements intriguing

I said there was a long story behind this – that’s probably why, having eliminated pretty much everything else we’ve tried, this may be the only workable fix.

Handling any streaming video is fine – sorted. Handling it locally – that’s the challenge. If you’re genuinely interested then PM and we’ll have a chat. But I warn you, if it works, we might have 100+ videos (typically 20-60 secs) to convert!

Like you say Rachel, the default CS5 option needs a fair amount of customising to look good and match branding.

And like and says, sticking into a SWF will give it the interactivity.

Just need to find someone who’s either done it or is willing to build a sample to see how it all works out. Cheers

AH! – do you mean you want to be able to play the video whilst offline??

    Yes, indeedy.

The videos must be self contained and not link to any external pages or even any absolute or relative file paths locally (e.g. on the hosted server).

Therefore, the only we see this working is for each video to have its own player – thus turning it into a kind of interactive flash movie. If that can be done, then we might have a solution.

    spacemonkey

FlowPlayer, JWPlayer and all other similar players are fine for managing streaming video (from a hosted page). But that’s not we need for one particular project. The videos must have self-contained players and not be streamed. This is where it becomes a long story.

Hence I understand Flash can be used in some way – but haven’t yet seen any decent looking output. It might sound weird, but it appears that if the FLV has an embedded player, then the user can have control with the technology behind it having to do any calls externally.

EDIT: the last statement is based on the belief (so someone tells us) that an FLV can remain interactive (i.e. the user uses the player), therefore the required format for publishing must be FLV – although I guess we might get away with SWF too?

Not another Lovers Guide video is it?

Funny you should mention that because I had a meeting with Wendy and Tony (one of the couples) at their home in the early 90’s. Wendy was absolutely stunning – her outfit alone had ours jaws dropping from the moment she opened the door. And her tales of what went on under the covers were hilarious, e.g. minty alka-seltzer BJs and such like.

Anyway, bringing this back on topic … my mate who set up the meeting was later invited onto a mid 90’s late night show to share his own sexual encounters. No idea how or why it came about, but he was **** hilarious, and certainly gained another level of notoriety among us. Admittedly not the kind of serious stuff that Yunki may well be divulging, but was none-the-less a good reminder of good times.

Don’t know what size mine is but I’ve just started using it again after about 5-6 years without. Carries a couple of tubes, tools, rags, lube/oil and that’s about it.

The ‘opening’ folds up and can be kind of doubly folded up when you’re carrying less stuff. It then just latches together.

Recommended if you want a waterproof method of carrying a few things, plus you really don’t even notice it’s there.

Then again, I did rather enjoy Bonekickers, so who am I to judge…

Quite simply – you’re not. Bonekickers has to go down as one of the most diabolical series ever. The Relic Hunter of its day.

Humvee’s outer layer is great, but the lycra inner is pants IMO – stitching comes undone within a couple of rides and the chamois is pretty average too.

Like Bruk says, we made it to order, i.e. boiled kettle > poured into plastic container > made up bottle/mix > put bottle in plastic container for say 2 mins to warm up. No need to do what some people do and boil water for every mix and manually cool it.

Can’t remember TBH. We’ve only ever made them up for say 2-3 hours storage (using those thermal type travel bag things). I’m sure other people have stored them in the fridge – but that might be EBM, not formula.

Someone will probably come along soon as say it’s fine.

Thinking about it, why do you want to make one up – why not just do it to demand?

    Not Going Out

Each to their own, but IMO that is a truly awful non-comedy. Nothing remotely amusing about it at all. Tis the male equivalent of Miranda.

Tamsin’s line at the end of the first or second show (when pulling up in the car and greeting the security guy) was one of the funniest in a long time.

All in all a pretty good show.

Ranmore stuff is also harder to find, plus carrying on to Box Hill is pretty much just NDW/bridleway sort of stuff.

If you can’t tag along with anyone then make your way to Pitch/Holmbury/Peaslake (in that order) as mentioned above. If you don’t know you’re way around then I’d recommend heading either XC to Albury Heath and then up to the top of Pitch, or just go A25 into Shere and up from there.

Naturally depends how much time you have. NDW is (I think) off limits to bikes, but a fair few still use it. Nice views, but nothing much to do unless you know your way off piste.

Mainly bridleways around St Marthas etc, so you kind of need to head into Winterfold at least before you start seeing the proper stuff.

Others in the area might know other stuff though.

My Flak Jackets arrived on Sat morning (ordered Fri pm) and they’re mint – nothing “seconds” about them at all. Gave them a 4hr test run yesterday and they’re bang on.

EDIT: Came in a proper case with pouch and other stuff too. Thanks again to one of my picnic favourites!

Depends how much you’re prepared to sell it to this guy vs re-list it. You can always get his tel number (can’t remember how, but you can) and call him to discuss.

I had a problem with a sale due to some ignorant numpty bidding at the last minute, despite him not meeting my stated criteria. He left negative feedback (which I couldn’t respond too) but I got my fees back and re-listed and sold it for full wack on BIN. Some people (buyers) just try it on. Stick to your guns as stated above.

Basically chicken in a chilli and chocolate sauce.

Had that in La Perla a few years back. Most unimpressed. Did get completely shit-faced though 🙂
