This might do for Beko what the Prius braking issue did for Toyota.

Arse. Just checked the start time – 11:30 too late for me cos the outlaws are coming down. Highly unlikely to get a pass 🙁

Why do all forum rides have to coincide with family visits? Ggrrhh.

    Enjoy!

Redcafe is probably the only other one these days. Do subscribe to about 200+ feeds though, so that’s how I keep in touch with the stuff I want to know about/share.

Can’t say we have that problem and ours is a twin so much wider and (presumably) inherently unstable

Our QB is a three wheeler but with a twin on the front. No stability problems here.

I think there are times when you need to ‘take the weight’ of the buggy when ‘putting it down’ on certain surfaces, otherwise risk sideways movement etc. So I can understand why some people may struggle if they don’t have the strength.

Quinny Buzz from birth here. Not the lightest thing to pack away but perfectly durable if you want to go off-road. In fact, our’s has probably done more off-road miles than road (pavement 🙂 ). Loads of accessories and enough storage space/flexibility for most. Car seat slots straight in, plus the ‘next size up’ seat ships with it. Prob £350-£400 new but can easily be gotten for less than half that on ebay etc.

Maclaren (Triumph?) from 10 months, but only for road trips. Ridiculously light/compact and opens up/folds away in 2 seconds. Brilliantly manouverable, i.e can turn on a sixpence with a single finger. Crap off-road though, hence keeping the QB.

Very subjective though. Bit like asking “What bike for …”

However today’s ride was an unmitigated disaster with bro in laws chain snapping twice and the 2nd time taking the rear mech with it! Only made it 6 miles round

That’s a shit. No spare links/tool? Hasn’t put him off though has it?

Exact thing happened to me yesterday up on Ranmore. Then the bloody pin in my Park Tool chain tool snapped as well = 5 miles walking/freewheeling to Nirvana for a replacement. Made up for it by managing to squeeze in some Redlands sketch-mongery on the way home, especially round what’s left of Mangrove Alley.

Roast chicken, roast potatoes and veg followed by homemade apple crumble and ice-cream.

Not a bad way to finish a non-stop day.

Hmm, that was a right seedy place back in the day. Some good riders in their bunch though.

Check out Theme Forest – all you’ll ever need in terms of WP theme-mongery. Just click on a theme and then hit ‘Live Preview’ to see it in action.

Loads of sliders available for images, headers, etc.

Where is the best place to park for exploring Leith? I would prefer to avoid the ride up from Westcott.

Starvael (about 1/4 mile west of the tower. It’s the CP you pass when you come up from Greensands Lane.

    The gully

That looks like the bit we call Trench Warfare. Starts of with ducking under a fallen tree?

Which means WW looks like the bit that starts between the two short exits (one of which is just past what used to be that single piece of shore) that spit you out onto the more fire-roady type trail. WW then starts on the opposite side, goes across the little play area and heads off about 1/3 mile or so? Can turn right near the end and go down the steeper section or carry on and head back up? Looks totally different on that vid.

EDIT: hmm, looks like a totally different trail nearer the end. Maybe there’s a split we’re not seeing?

That’s a heck of a lot better than mine.

Never got going today. Not in the mood for it. Looking forward to the w/end though; wicked ride lined up follow by a chill before 3 weekends of visiting family mayhem.

I like the dickhead salesmen who call up ‘representing’ Google, and say stuff like, “It’s NAME calling from Google’s SEO team. Would you like your website to have more hits and therefore generate more business?” “May as well …” “Good, because we guarantee to get your website to number one on all searches. All you have to do is sign up to …”

They must con a fair few people with that BS.

Yeah, it’s probably the roughest bit. I think it’s just after what used to be the entrance to a secret trail that’s now barred (by the gate) … used to head into a narrow, twisty section in the woods that spun you out halfway down Greensand Lane.

    spacemonkey

I have to agree the climb up Greensands way is a bit of a pain in the arse and really not the best route up to Leith

That steep bit as you head up to the farm is a good test of strength at the end of a long ride.

but it’s a laugh on the way down at speed.

I remember me and a mate hooking up with a motocross blokey at the top a few years ago. He left us standing after the first few bends. Must’ve reached the bottom 20 secs quicker. He was bonkers on all the DH/ and swoopy stuff.

IMO it’s good to give the area a miss for a few weeks every now and then. Seasonal changes and the odd new bit of trail always make it a welcome return.

    Did a proper session focusing only on Leith Hill on Sat and was surprised at;

    1) how few riders there were
    2) the number of trails (typically the little linky bits west/northwest of the tower) that looked like they’re weren’t being ridden much

Was a bit weird. So many bits of trail with barely any signs of use.

Perhaps all the tourist types are hanging out around the mecca that is BKB? 🙂 Which is fine by me cos there’s so much stuff in the area these days.

EDIT: finally found Trench Warfare again after originally discovering it 5-6 years ago. Short trail, but kind of funky in trenchy kind of way.

No probs. If you get stuck then PM me. He’s a proper hard bastard (competed internationally in martial arts for a good few years), so he’s very strong. Also does Reiki among other things, so generally likes to tap into what’s happening on multiple levels.

It’s not an issue if you fall out of love with something. Even if you didn’t see it coming. But that may depend on how you deal with it.

Me? I’d find something else to throw myself into. I can’t handle not ‘doing stuff’ and am grateful that I have the energy and enthusiasm to get interested and passionate about things.

Did a helluva lot of road biking in my teens but then dropped it as soon as I hit Uni. Spent years off the bike and didn’t give it a second thought. But I did other stuff; namely football, tennis and running. Got into MTBing nearly 10 years ago and have stayed in that groove ever since. It’s one of the few things that gives me escapism on all levels. Have done a fair amount of riding this year – have certainly chalked off most of the rides/routes that I wanted to do – and wish I could do more. But I can’t – young family et al.

Sure, people see this type of thing differently. IME I love being into stuff that I love being into. If I fall out with it then I find something else. Simples.

We live out in the sticks only a few miles away but have had the (dis-)pleasure of visiting Redhill many a time. It’s bearable during the day in as much as you shouldn’t see much trouble, so IMO working there is fine. Tis full of yoofs and the ‘unworked’ though. Can turn mental at night and not the place you want to go drinking in.

As has been said already, the town and surrounding area vary a lot for tenancy. Worth checking out parts of Merstham, Bletchingly, Godstone, South Park, Reigate and anything further west.

Other bonus is you’re only a few miles from the mecca of SE riding. If you wanna come down and have a look around then drop me a PM.

I was a tennis coach in the mid 90’s and set up (with another coach mate) what turned out to be the first district 9-16yrs league in the UK. Was funded purely from match fees and our own pocket. LTA rep was curious but wouldn’t offer anything. 72 kids signed up and so we had a monster on our hands, having to administrate/umpire/coach all these kids/matches from something like Apr-Sep. Was absolutely bonkers.

Held an end-of-year awards ‘do’ in Oct where we presented various trophies for each leagues’ winner (e.g. 9-10 yrs, 11-12 yrs, 13-14yrs, 15-16yrs, most improved boy/girl etc). At the end, one of the parents (there were probably 150+ people present) stood up and said something like “I think we should all show our appreciation to Simon and Rick for their efforts and devotion this year … They’ve put so much into this … would you join me in a round of applause?” Everyone then stood up and clapped. That was it for me. Felt like I’d (we’d) really achieved something that gave those youngsters a sense of fun/achievement etc. Was an amazing experience. Repeated it the next year with funding from our bank but it was just too much work to continue – seeing as we both had 9-5 jobs. LTA rep wouldn’t give us the time of day anymore despite regional coaches telling her we were onto something.

Still, at least we had the memories …

I’m with MG on this, i.e. roads just don’t feel safe regardless of how much room drivers might give us. Couldn’t live with myself if anything happened to the little monkey as a result of such faith.

Which leads me to asking “Just how much abuse can these things take off-road?” Sure, fire roads and flattish bits of singletrack might well be fine, but how much can you push these things on the swoopy + rollercoaster stuff?

EDIT: SM jnr has just turned one ITMAD

He’s been building a team for 6 years, and Fergie builds one in a summer, without missing a heart beat.

But Man Utd had much more than a 6 yr barren period before sir Alex arrived.

Eh? We won the FA Cup (when it meant a helluva lot more than now) in 83 and 85.

Simple question: do any of you use your trailers on any road sections? Can’t say I’ve seen anyone doing this before, but also haven’t seen many people using them off-road either.

We live in the sticks with no pavements for miles so I’m loathe to put SM jnr at risk on the road.

Like Dobbo says, start with a new theme. Then start adding funky stuff via plugins and widgets.

    Do a Google on:

    wordpress themes
    wordpress widgets
    wordpress plugins

Be as specific as you can with the last two – there’s a whole lotta WP stuff out there.

Regarding minimum standard someone mentioned above: if you’re comfortable on some of the more technical trails on Pitch and Winterfold, you’ll be okay (you know the ones I mean).

If you can clean each of the (3?) Wedgie trails then you’re laughing.

Used to own two of them back in the day, but not anymore. And the one nearer the bottom (with the tree jumps) is no easier.

As long as you don’t mind the jumpy, droppy side I’d guess. I’d be taking with a pinch of salt comments about everything being ‘rollable’…

Yep, there’s stuff there that you just have to hit at speed to carry you through, while somehow staying on the bike. A tough place to clean without dabbing/offing. Did my ribs there a few years ago.
