Anyone know whether those were the only two sections broken up on the hillside?

I was up there on Sat and found nothing else touched on Ranmore.

Rebuilding is going to be put off until the new year.

From what I’ve heard the council were in support of the event, but it’s the NT who did the trashing because it’s on their land.

I think we can guess from Rich’s reply where the ‘new’ location is likely to be.

Sometimes you just need to listen, STFU and be there. No matter what.

EDIT: And they also, IMO, like to venture into their own well of despair once in a while. If this is where she goes, think twice before trying to haul her out. She might just need to fall a bit deeper before deciding it’s time to get out.

This Origin thing really is a heap of shit. BF3 now appears as a banner but nothing happens when you click. Arse fudge.

This, the council gym at £18 a month had 4 great instructors, and the bikes were propper spining bikes (fixed gear, big flywheels, magnetic resistance) the poncey ‘health spa’ my missus made me join at £75 a month is crap, the instructors stop between songs, lots of resting, crap bikes (freewheel, small flywheels and big bits of carpet on brake pads for resistance) etc etc, If I’m going to the effort of going spinning I at least want it to involve spinning!

Ok, so if I’m to give this a go I should be looking for proper spinning bikes and ask how the instructor leads the class?

Hmm. Finally got login to work via EA site but can’t find any info on accessing the beta, even though the beta site says it’s available only via Origin. Odd.

Maybe we do have to wait for the Americans to wake up and realise the 29th has already started.

Installing Origin now but it won’t log me or accept the validation key from EA. Already looking worse than Steam. Is this the only way to access the beta?

So is it best simply to focus on the obvious triangle on OS map

To get your bearings I’d park at Starvael (0.5 miles west of tower), take the exit over the piece of wood in the far right corner, and head up to the tower. Takes 5-10 mins depending on fitness.

Once there, take the left immed before tower (by railings) and stand there for a moment. Hold your arms out and make a V shape. That’s the area you want to start with. It stretches about 0.5 miles back to the carpark (left arm) and 1.5 miles to the right (right arm). Loads of singletrack, loopy stuff, swoopy stuff, linky bits, drops, rolls, jumps etc.

The other side of the tower is more expansive and probably easier to miss stuff because it’s more spaced out. Plenty of stuff – you just need to find it.

    Enjoy.

+1 for the Dorking BMX area.

Probably the most condensed section you’ll find.

Various other jump spots dotted around, including some (almost) opposite one of the known ‘entrance’s to Redlands.

If you do a Google you’ll find a more enlightened version of that ‘Welcome’ poster. Can’t post it here cos I’ll be banned. Was designed by a Red, so you can guess the rest 🙂

Yep, Stumpy FS. But wouldn’t a ‘pulled’ gear cable create a consistent problem?

Gremlins. Yep. Looks like my turn to have a visit from them.

    Second, so it seems.

No stiff links anywhere – every single one checked. Turned bike over and skipping is random. No single link causing it.

Had this happen a couple of months back after replacing chain and cassette. Ended up servicing the hub even though couldn’t see anything wrong with it. Continued to skip when bike was upside down, but not when riding. Odd.

Hmm, chain (with powerlink) decided not to snap while going up and down the slightly inclining farm track outside. Did skip a few times though. Might risk a ride tomo morning. Any more probs and I’m switched to KMC or something else.

    Cheers guys

I now have, in the words of any chinese chip shop owner, “sore finger”.

Am going to dig out a spare powerlink and replace the broken link to see what happens. Back in 5.

do you do a lot of gearchanging under heavy load ?

Nope, nothing unusual. I know how to ‘sync’ an under-load change with cadence etc to minimise things like breaks.

PJM1974, I’ll check out the KMC X9-93 9 Speed Chain if it’s the correct replacement for a 9spd HG93. Not going to buy it just now though.

Yes, length is correct. I even took it off and measured against previous chain. Identical.

New hanger fitted today too as a result of Mon’s break.

Rear mech not out of alignment. Gears shifting fine.

Can hear/feel that bit of hesitancy when under load, but that’s nothing new – have experienced that for years. Would expect a worn chain to break. Not a new one.

Reinforced pin fitted first. Same as with last chain.

Snapping not at point of original join. Random.

check the teeth of your chainrings

Small cog was to blame Sat and Mon, then middle cog just now. Teeth are fine – I too thought one might be kicking out but no. Which is why I’m stumped.

What’s also annoying is I fettled on Sun and the whole bike was proper smooth on Mon. And then bang … bang … bang.

    spacemonkey
    Full Member

how are you fixing the chain on ?

Same as always: Park chain tool with a normal HG93 pin.

Get a sram chain or power link to connect your chain together as the shimano snap off link pins are babber

Have used powerlinks in the past (inc the one that broke Sat and Mon) so it’s not that.

Have used HG93s for 2-3 years at least and only had one problem since.

Tell me more about your second question….

Worth giving Spesh (in Chessington, Surrey) a call: 0208 3913500.

If the bike is no longer available in the UK, then there’s a good chance they’ll have some (or at least frames and shocks) in the warehouse.

Hmm, quite interesting this. One of my best mates was given a sheath knife, swiss army knife and a black widow catapult (remember how cool they were in the 80s?) when we were about 8-9 yrs. No issue whatsoever. He also had a Webley air pistol about a year later.

But I’m sure things like the individual’s personality come into play. We were always outdoors and doing outdoors stuff like exploring, building camps, making stuff etc. So maybe that helped channel our energy. Some kids these days will be different, especially given the media and all the other bollocks they’re surrounded with.

Double-arse today. My chain, not content with snapping on Sat and breaking my Park chain tool (leaving me with a 5 mile walk to Nirvana), then decided to break 3 times on the climb back up from Windy Willows. Unfortunately it also took my mech hanger on the 3rd attempt. Still, had a lovely scenic 10 mile walk/freewheel/kick home.

    Grrhh.

We didn’t make it onto Leith but the last few times I’ve passed that way it’s not felt as busy as it used to.

Agreed. I mentioned that here a few days ago. Loads of little linky trails (especially north of the tower) no longer appearing to be ridden.

Not really sure what the official take is on Redlands. Loads of the old skool trails were wrecked long ago by logging and anti-MTBers etc. Then the politics came along. And now there’s a film crew up there. MTBers not really deemed popular. Simon’s argument, like you say, is pretty blunt. My take on it is that while it’s still possible to pick up WOM > Mangrove Alley > some other trail heading downhill from the left, then I’ll stick to that.

Have only heard about stuff around Hindhead/DPB, but not been myself. So can’t comment.

Not sure if anyone would ever get round to grading various trails. Plus it’s pretty subjective, e.g some people nail Deliverance like it’s nothing more than a little roll-in, while others won’t touch it. Plus making that sort of (locational at least) information publicly available isn’t every local’s cup of tea.

Speaking of which, I’m heading up that way in an hour or so 🙂 Ranmore, Leith and Redlands.
