I’m not a fan of the ones that use the plastic slide on clips

i find on the whole they sit a bit too far away from the saddle and look a bit crap..

    i’ve got one of these..

    Deuter XS Saddle bag

fits everything (including a c02 inflator.. and an Airbone mini pump!)
apart a tube.. i carry the park patches instead which i’ve found to be brilliant for easy repair in all weathers.. and fine for quick get me home fixes on local rides..

anything longer or more remote ill have a rucksack anyway so just chuck a tube or two in that..

i’ve added a little plastic stop on the saddle rails i made from an old seat pack mount to stop it sliding forwards into the dropper stanchion and the pack sits right against the seat so doesn’t look too rubbish..

    have both XT and deore..

hard pushed to tell the difference really..

XT’s have a very slightly less flexy lever i think..
and the positionable hose on the caliper is handy

Deore’s dont have the annoying shiny reservoir covers.. and cost way less..
Made some simple tool free adjusters to fit in the deore levers for reach adjust too. so no faffing with allen keys.

the sizing seems to have changed this year too to further complicate things..

i’ve been a Fox large 10 for the past ten years…

this year they where way too big and i’m now wearing a medium..

best bet is to try them on…

buy the two pairs nearest your size (from CRC or somewhere else with free returns..) and then send the pair back that don’t fit.. or go to a shop that sells them..

i see it as blue and gold too..

however… as i scroll down the page so that only the bottom half of the image of the dress is showing in the browser… it turns blue and black…!!

My partner also struggled with the front mech and shifter..

just ended up ditching them and went 1X9

30T chainring and 11-34 cassette suits most of her riding perfectly..

left the granny ring on for extra long climbs.. but it rarely if ever gets used..

    i had a similar problem..

chain and cassette where making horrible noises and jumping about when back pedalling in certain gears..

looked at everything again and again… played with the chainline with spacers, gear indexing and the b-screw and eventually got a best compromise.. its still not 100% when back pedalling though…

what appeared to be happening in my case..

is that when I back pedalled, the chain catches very slightly on the next sprocket up, it looks like this is due to the chainline not being 100% straight in certain gears, add in the gaps between the sprockets being narrower than 9 speed for example.. and the margin for error is a lot smaller..

everything works perfectly though when pedalling forward!

    slight hijack..

but i’m considering a carbon post too(for a bit of extra comfort..)

for my inbred 456 in the same size as the OP

how do carbon posts stand up to repeated putting up and down?

alloy posts seem to show a fair bit of wear to the black anodizing after a year or so of use for me..

the bikes normally the one i grab when its filthy out and don’t want to add to the servicing bill with dropper and rear shock on my Meta..

    DT Swiss 350 / 240..

I hate loud hubs, and DT are on a par with shimano once you apply a little smear of grease to the ratchets..

It will get louder over time though..

but, Its dead easy just to pull the cassette and freewheel off with your fingers.. (no tools required!)

give everything a quick clean and apply a new smear of grease and it’ll go back to being quiet again..

All the Zocchi Manuals you’ll ever need..

    :)

    basically for old zocchis.. its..

remove any air from forks if they’re air sprung..

Remove preload adjusters with tiny screw in if coil..

Remove circlips from under preload adjusters..

    unscrew topcap with socket..

    remove preload gubbins..

    remove springs..

pour out old oil into container..

cycle dampers a few times while doing this..

unscrew bolt in base of forks
(its easier to leave these bolts in the forks once undone i find.. they stay in place as they have an o-ring on them)

Remove damper carts / dummy legs..

point tiny hole in base of damper at the oil container..

cycle damper and squirt old oil out of damper into container..

slide stanchions out of fork lowers..

Remove Seals / bushings as necessary.

Reverse process to put back together…

oil heights are in the manuals above..

and don’t forget to put the top out springs back in when you rebuild the forks.. its reasonably annoying when you forget to do that..!

whilst the delivery idea behind this seems ok in principal..

from what i read if their is a problem with the item the buyer cant return the shipment through the same system.. potentially leaving you the seller with potentially a big return postage bill!

i opted out immediately anyway.. shipping ebay stuff abroad is the stuff of nightmares when things go wrong or you get a dodgy buyer..

    It can be done yes..

You’ll need some extra 19mm top out springs if they’re air forks..

And if they’re coil some 165 mm main springs too (as opposed to 185 in the 100mm travel forks)

Ukbikestore is the place to buy them from…

I have been going since mid 2009.. though i haven’t uploaded my pics since the end of august..! something to catch up on later tonight..

Its amazing how even the mundane rubbish 11pm photos (which most of mine are) set the synapses firing and i can then remember stuff that happened i otherwise wouldn’t.. 8)

Consider keeping the old 22t granny ring on there too if it’s not too worn..

It means changing the chain by hand but it’ll give you lower bailout gears too if you need them…

I did with intention of getting a one up 42 in the future.. and to be honest I don’t think I’ll bother now.. the hidden granny works well enough for me..

I can even change down using my foot as a front mech 50% of the time! Needs more practice tho..!

i used a Dremel with a tungsten carbide cutter on my old Meta..

took ages though as the bearings races are really tough..

cut a slot into the race slowly and steadily as said above.. and keep checking it as you go to make sure you don’t cut too far and into the frame…

you might not need to go all the way through either.. just keep checking as you go and the race may weaken to a point where the bit you have cut will easily collapse in and allow you to remove the race easily..

i went a bit of a different way with this to other people..

i went 1X10 with a shimano 11-36 cassette Zee mech and shifter and an on-one 30T ring..

This is fine for the majority of my riding but i intended to get a 40 or 42 and a rad cage in the future..

however.. i couldn’t really afford to go down that route before a long ride i had planned.. so i just bolted my old 22T granny ring back on..!

it does mean i need to stop to change down.. (and get an oily finger in the process..) but by that point im usually shattered and need a minutes rest anyway.. and it gives me (unfit) a nicer lower gear ratio than 30 / 42

so far i’ve only really needed to do it on lengthy climbs (like up cut gate for example..)

it means i get to keep the extra security and simplicity of the single narrow wide ring at the front but get a bailout with the 22t if i need it.. and the 30/11 top gear has been more than enough for my riding..

i think it should be possible..

you’ll need a set of (shorter length) 100mm springs..

and some top out springs that are longer (than the current ones) by the same amount the 100mm springs are shorter.. (

I think you’ll end up with 185mm (100mm travel) main springs and 50mm top out springs

send the guys at windwave an email though.. they’re very helpful!

I dont think ive ever used the word ‘springs’ so many times in one post.. 8)
