great rear tyre in the dry and in the rain too (when there wasnt much mud..) (running 2.3″)

It rolls well and I was finding it great all round until i took it out for a ride in the peak a couple of weeks ago..

It could not cope with the sticky muddy top surface at all… It became clogged quickly and didnt shed.. it became pretty much unridable up hill.. wheelspin and also zero lateral grip too..! it was awful! the high roller on the front was fine..

thought id found my perfect all round rear tyre till that ride.. have ordered a high roller 2.3 to replace it and ill just put up with the extra drag..

I have got my last couple of bike boxes from Halfords..

The Cycle Mechanics have always been more than happy to let me take boxes.. (saves them carrying them down to the recycling bins for one!)

I have had to use a spacer between the Mech hangar and the mech on an old 456 to get the gears to play nicely..

mech hangar was checked and perfectly aligned..

It effectively made the hangar a few mm thicker and moved the mech outwards..

with one setup, the mech was literally bottomed out on the spring with the limit screw removed and still wouldnt change into the 11T cog.. added the spacer… and it all worked fine.

might help a bit in your situation too..

    I wear fox anti freeze..

The bestest thing I’ve found for helping my poor circulation cold hands though..

Is stopping after a mile or so once my core has warmed up a bit.. getting off the bike for a few minutes and moving my arms around a bit.. seems to get the warm blood flowing into my arms and hands and warms them up for the next few miles..

    repeat as necessary..

Its flipping fantastic now the woodland trail has opened..

plenty to keep a five year old entertained too.. the pump track is usually teaming with kids!
i might avoid the woodland trail at busy times with a young rider.. but go at a quieter time and its all rollable..

Ive taken my 3 year old daughter around 95% of the trails there in her weeride…

and a couple of weeks ago we went with the new macride..

I got mine apart without any trouble.. i forget how though!

if its just the oil you want to change though..

you can unscrew the lockout / compression adjuster assembly at the top of the cartridge fairly easily.. pour the oil out of the cart.. refill..  cycle the cart a bit to remove any bubbles.. top up.. put back together.. job jobbed..

the dynamic bleed nature of the cart means any overfill will just bleed out on the first few compression strokes..

theres a guide i found on google somewhere that shows the process better than ive described.. ill see if i can find it in a bit..

I just hope the sprocket spacing is the same as SRAMs eagle cassettes..

as that XTR cassette is likely to cost a fair whack on release..

those 3 large sprockets are going to be aluminium..
that much TI with that much machining would be insanely expensive..? and the m9000 uses an aluminium 40T..

XTR 12 speed shifter and mech.. gx eagle cassette (or even a sunrace…) and chain.. yes please for me!

    here we go..

12 speed sunrace cassette from germany for £63

the gx is reduced from an RRP of £424 though.. the sunrace is only £370 at RRP…

The sunrace stuff could possibly less than £300 once the big shops get hold of it..

the 11speed Sunrace cassette for example has an RRP of £100ish and can be had for £65 online..

Ill second the RSP (Raleigh special products) 35mm long stem from Tredz..

Its a fantastic bit of kit for the price.. Well made, nicely finished and light too!

if it had another brands name on it it would sell for twice the price..

I just wish they made them in other lengths too so I could put them on all of my bikes!

    I run..

SRAM 11 speed cassette 10-44 ( 44T one up extender)
    SRAM 11 speed chain

    with..

    XT Mech + Goatlink 11
    XT Shifter

    and

    SLX Crank
One-up 30T Oval chainring (spaced inwards 3mm from the crank)

its once or twice been a little hesitant going from 36 to 44 (both ways) but everything else shifts perfectly.. I think that is more likely down to the one-up cog though other than the mechs or cassette

It could be the shifting issues Garbaruk are talking about are those that the goatlink helps solve as the shimano Mech isnt designed to be used with a 10T cog…?

(i havent run this setup without a goatlink though so cant comment on that..)

also interested to hear how you get on as im potentilaly looking at one for my next bike build.. (if shimano 12 speed doesnt get announced soon!)

As above.. its been fine the two times ive used it..but the delivery is pretty slow..

(and both times came via MyHermes for the UK portion of the delivery here..)

the couple of tiny KS seatpost spares I ordered came in enormous boxes as well!

not a BETD one… i had one of the Real world cycling (based in the US) on my commencal Meta 55..

the seals with the RWC version look a bit better than the BETD ones in that picture..

on the plus side it transformed the small bump sensitivity of the Meta..

on the downside it did require a lot more looking after..
Ie a strip down clean and re-grease after every couple of rides.. and that was with using Maxima Waterproof Grease..

I use the Sufferfest.. via a USB ANT+ dongle to my PC.

The videos are cheesy.. and verging on ridiculous at times..!
But they just work for me.. the workouts themselves are great, The sillyness takes the edge of the utter tedious hell of turbo training.. and their mostly hour long format fits in quite well with my life.

I found Zwift really boring as well after the first 5 minutes of oooo.. im riding underwater through a tube and up a volcano.. and the few structured workouts i tried on there just didnt grab me.. or match the effort to the visuals very well..

yup, they are the same size and the the alloy one does fit a bit better..

The junction box itself on the DX is also plastic which doesnt help things stay in place..!

you can replace the whole junction box with an alloy one… but theyre not cheap.. and it requires a strip down of the post..

what fork oil are you running in them?

my avalanche damper felt rubbish with standard 5wt in..

switched over to Maxima fork FLUID (not their fork oil) as thats the closest you can get in the UK to the spectro stuff Avalanche recommends.. and it improved it a fair bit..

it works even better now i’ve tweaked the compression and rebound stacks to speed things up a bit..

that said.. Avalanche stuff doesnt feel plush and lovely and boingy like a magic carpet ride in my opinion.. and does feel kind of wooden if you are just pootling about..

I thought it was rubbish when i first got it.. to the extent i strapped a gopro onto the downtube to see if it was actually working properly!!

push it hard though.. and it is very good.. once setup properly..

The Plastic cover and junction box on the DX are a bit rubbish compared to the alloy version on the LEV..  They can pop off really easily even when mounted correctly..

I popped a thin O-Ring around the junction box and cover on my partners bike to keep it in place.. looks a bit neater than the cable tie that used to be on there..

ordered a seatpost and brake cable earlier this week..

the seatpost turned up yesterday in a box so small in relation to it that they had to remove the original packaging and fold that inside the box.. which is fine..

the brake cable arrived today.. in this.. (bent 30cm ruler for scale)

the maximum length for a myhermes ‘medium’ parcel is 1.2m.. which is about £4 including £20 insurance..

you should easily be able to package bars into something shorter than that..

parcelforce will take bike frames.. so size wont be an issue with them either.. though i suspect the price is the stumbling block there.. itll be £10+ to post bars with them at a guess..

stick the dimensions of the parcel into parcel2go.com there are a few companies that youll be able to use.. :)

    do a google search for

    hypercracker tool

i think that was the name for the original version of the lightweight cassette tool..

all the versions ive seen brace against the chainstay’s (id still want something between the tool and the stay to spread the load though..)

im not sure id entirely trust the dropout braced version.. and it wouldnt work with a bolt through rear end..

if it was totally jammed id be looking at loosening some spokes off instead maybe and then attaching cable ties and pulling?

    Camelbak Podium bottle?

not noticed any difference to ‘normal’ bottles with any of my bikes..

bikes have always been fitted with normal cages like below..

theyve been a mixture of brands.. but last one i bought was a topeak shuttle..

havent ever had a bottle eject in 20 years riding.. If the bottle feels a bit loose when I first install it.. Ive always just bent the cage a bit so it grips the bottle a bit tighter..

I have one of the cheapy (though they seem to have increased in price since i bought mine a good few years ago..) ones from Ebay..

works perfectly well.. You just need to make sure you arent cack handed with the spanners at the end of the tool that isnt a bolt, because it is made from aluminium..

there’s only one cure for toothache.. A dentist.

I’ve recently had dental issues and the following worked a bit for me..

    Whisky.. Very Temporary relief..
    Milk.. Slightly less temporary relief..

Paracetamol and ibuprofen alternated every 2 hours worked best.. (make sure there’s a 4 hour gap inbetween each drug though!!)

So.. Para, 2hours later ibu, 2 hours after Ibu more para etc

Codeine helps a bit but it’s more ooo I’m floatee and high so I’ve forgotten about the pain.. rather than actual pain relief..

I’ve used clove oil before and it does work to a degree

But i found it utterly evil stuff and it basically melted the inside of my mouth.. Big chunks of.skin coming off.my cheek.and gums!!

Try leaving some on a bit of plastic you don’t need and see what it does to it.. (spilt some on an old phone and it pretty much destroyed the plastic case overnight!!)

The only permanent cure will be dental work.. And / or antibiotics..

Get in as soon as you can and to hell with the cost.. Teeth don’t ever get better on their own permanantly.. And dental pain can get utterly utterly Horrendous if left untreated professionally.

Its a bit more involved with the Float X.. and yes you will need to delve into the nitrogen charged area of the shock..

    Fox Float X service guide

This guide uses an andreani machine (cost: £LOTS) to eliminate any trapped air in the damping oil when filling..

i think there must be a way of bleeding the air out without an andreani.. probably involving large syringes.. but ive yet to find a guide..

the easiest solution would surely be to use the open standard freehub design one-up developed with Hope if they are going to use 10T…?

though this is of course shimano we are talking about..

my money would be more on them sticking with 11T due to their rythmn step gearing philosophy and the decrease in efficiency with a 10T..

can see a 11-50/1 12 speed being something they would do though with more and more bikes being designed around 1X..

it will be interesting to see what they do to reduce the weight to make it competetive with SRAM..

I have done this in the past..

I tried cutting with a grinder.. lots of smoke and mess.. i gave up..

also tried using some crowbars as tyre levers.. they worked.. eventually..!! but it took a long time and a lot of energy..

a bit of a breakthrough moment came when i used plenty of grease
on the tyre bead and the edge of the rim.. it made levering it over a LOT easier as the bead had a tendency to REALLY grip the rim when it was nice and tight..

breaking the bead was relatively easy.. deflated the tyre then stood on it..

would i do it again? nope not a chance!!! I’d take it to a tyre place and pay the fitter to take them off..

How about lady cannings in sheffield?

The new blue steel trail is excellent fun for first timers.. And it’s.layout is great for doing multiple runs.. The ‘climb’ is pretty easy going..

You could then progress on to the.other slightly harder trail or even go for an explore on the moors..

Took,my daughter for a ride there last week in the weeride and she absolutely loved it.. She Giggled the whole way down!

Bung mine in the washing machine with all my other riding kit..

usually at 30 degrees and with non-bio powder..

but they’ve also survived 40 degrees and biological powder too with no issues..

they still look and feel brand new and they’re three years old now..
