How is Gee Atherton Recovering From That Crash?

Nobody comments when we’re snowed in.
Thats because the north is of little importance other than a play area for wealthy southern mountain bikers.
You all have outside toilets and live, work then die within 1/2 mile of where you were born (complete with 12 fingers and webbed feet).
sootyandjimFree MemberOf course were this about favorable Specialized reviews in MBR the tinfoil hat wearing masses would be out in full strength.
sootyandjimFree MemberYou’ve had 8″ on Wandsworth Common?
I wouldn’t shout about it ducky.
😉
sootyandjimFree MemberWell hes dead for a start?
A statement with a question mark, very poor even for you Hora.
He is still alive and living in the UAE.
sootyandjimFree Memberand if they have worn through she is happy to try and get them fixed under warranty as unfit for purpose.
Ah, warranty issues and Mojo. Always an interesting experience.
And yes, I’m aware that officially your warranty is with the place you brought them from and not the importer but thats not always the reality.
You go to shop -> shop send them to Mojo -> Mojo say “incorrect/lack of maintenance” – > shop says “no dice”.
sootyandjimFree MemberI seem to be living in some kind of anti-snow hotspot.
I always thought that (living in Nottingham) but the direction the snow has come in from has avoided the geography that normally keeps us pretty much snow-free.
sootyandjimFree Memberbigsl – Thats hardly a fair comparison.
Comical Ali talks far less cr@p than Hora.
sootyandjimFree Member15 hours riding is what Rockshox used to say between servicing too when their forks were rubbish. Of course, no-one ever did it so they all failed.
I’m confused.
RS forks performance and build quality is now better but they need less servicing.
Are Fox Forks, although ‘plush’, no better than the shoddy old RS forks?
Anyone with more money than sense want to buy a pair of RS Psylos?
sootyandjimFree MemberI have 4 bikes built up but 2 others that are in various bits at the mo.
The bikes I have built up are,
Dialled Bikes UK Flow – Dirt Jump/Street bike, doesn’t get ridden much these days.
Dialled Bikes Holeshot – Designed as a 4X bikes but I use it for ‘hooning about’ in the woods.
’05 Specialized Enduro – Built up as my ‘Alps Bike’. As the name suggests, it gets brought out for riding the fast, steep and jumpy stuff.
Giant Trance – This is the bike I ride the most as its my favorite and also the one most suitable for the riding I generally do.
The 2 bikes in bits are,
Cannondale SM500 – My first proper MTB. I’ll get around to rebuilding it one day.
Specialized Big Hit – Superseded by the Enduro as my big and bouncy bike.
I can’t see any point getting rid of any. I have plenty of space to store my bikes and they aren’t costing me anything sitting there.
sootyandjimFree MemberYes it is Monday, though it is very early on the Monday.
Perhaps a little patience is in order.
Perhaps someone on the classifieds has ‘a life’ for sale.
;o)
sootyandjimFree MemberPah, cold? I’m a southerner and managed to cope with a ride in the White Peak today no problem.
Dress for the conditions and you’ll be fine, big jessy.
;o)
sootyandjimFree MemberI think you lot are making these sweets up.
I’ve ordered loads of stuff and have never received any sweets.
I’ve quite a large collection of Wiggle bottle openers now but no sweets.
sootyandjimFree MemberUnderworld: Rise Of The Lycans.
Because I quite liked the first two.

f,k,l,n,pPlus ADR licence with 8 classes (only class 7 is missing).
All paid for by HM Government and therefore by you lovely tax-paying folk.
Many thanks.
sootyandjimFree MemberWhen we moved into the (rented ) house we currently live in on having a look in the loft (its where I store my spare bikes) I discovered loads of empty industrial length tin foil boxes, the fact it was fully boarded and that whoever had used the loft before had installed a fairly comprehensive system of extension leads.
sootyandjimFree MemberThe reason why our politicians are muppets is because only independantly wealthy eton toffs like Cameron are willing to take a huge pay cut and work for the Government.
No, the reason that politicians now days are mainly muppets is because its not too bad a way to earn a living and hence we now have ‘professional MPs’, folk who have spent their entire lives working towards just being an MP rather than go out in the real world, do a proper job (which in turn gives them some insight into how the world outside the Palace of Westminster really works) and then go for office after their successful career gives them funds to fall back on.
sootyandjimFree MemberIndeed ‘marsdenman’, some of those expensive TV ads were no doubt paid for by less than scrupulous companies who now own their very own piece of US presidential backside.
Its just a question of how long before the pounding starts.
sootyandjimFree MemberActually CHB, they don’t.
Thats what the military has fought for in the past, the freedom for people not to give a toss.
sootyandjimFree MemberIts not a stupid question. Many countries have conscripts or as its also known, people being forced to serve in the military.
Is it better to have a professional army of willing volunteers, hopefully with the support of a grateful nation via the military covenant or a poorly trained group of cannon fodder? Obviously not taking into account the third option of not having a military and just trusting everyone to be really nice to each other.
sootyandjimFree Member..No but’s it’s obvious he subscribes to bo11ocks conspiracy theories…..
At least the price of aluminum foil is falling, I’m sure he’ll cut a dash in a smart new hat.
sootyandjimFree MemberAnd your point is AndyP?
Ah, is it one of those “if they don’t like it they can leave” things?
If all the Army’s infantrymen left do you think the government would restart conscription?
Would you be more happy people being sent against their wishes or for people to willing offer their services to the country?
sootyandjimFree MemberHe sure seems to like change though.
He must have loads of old Smirnoff bottles at home stuffed with nickels and dimes.
sootyandjimFree MemberI always preferred the Esher store as Jim is a really nice guy, it has some planks and stuff around the back for doing hop hop roll type stuff on and there is a bar next door.
sootyandjimFree MemberYou don’t really ‘do’ international politics do you ernie?
sootyandjimFree Member…amazed that people care so much as we dont actually live in america…
I’m amazed that you don’t realise why people outside the US should be interested in who is going to be running the worlds only remaining superpower.
If you cast your mind back a few years it was the actions of a previous occupant of the White House who took the US and a few other nations into two large scale conflicts in the Middle East, one of which we (the UK) are only starting to drag ourselves out of now and the other is continuing to prove a huge sinkhole for money, kit and more importantly, the lives of British servicemen.
The power of the President of the United States goes far beyond that of the leaders of the example countries you quote. We should all be interested in who our colonial cousins have entrusted with the big red button marked ‘game over’.
sootyandjimFree MemberI third ‘Chickenhawk’.
I must say though I disagree with the recommendation of ‘Sea Harrier Over The Falklands’ by Sharkey Ward. Its a piece of ego pandering of the highest degree by a chap that many among those deployed detested immensely for his complete lack of professionalism (as displayed by his ‘welcome’ call to Vulcan 607 when it arrived over the Falklands, even though radio silence was in effect) and pig-headed arrogance.
A far superior book if you’re interest in the operations of Harriers over the Falklands is ‘Harrier Ground Attack, Falklands’ by Jerry Pook.
sootyandjimFree MemberLets not get into too much of a dasiy chain over the fellow.
Yes its great that Bush has gone (though not voted out sadly) but I remember back in ’97 a similar feeling of euphoria sweeping the UK over the election of an ex-PM of ours, who sadly turned out to be worse for this country than the chap before even though he had a bunch of ‘celebs’ singing his praises (for a while at least) and smiled a fair bit.
Time will tell.
sootyandjimFree MemberOf course they look messy. Have you ever tried stuffing one into a Wessex fuel tank?
sootyandjimFree MemberCFH – I’ll raise you your Wessex with a Wessex being RTR refuelled by me in Dungannon.
sootyandjimFree MemberIs Fred on here again?
Shall we do the helicopter tango again Fred?
sootyandjimFree MemberaP – I’m from Penge originally. Its not that nice a place but better than Beckenham.
sootyandjimFree MemberI’ve a Dialled Bikes Holeshot (long) and brought it mainly for chucking around my local wood when I’m in no rush to get anywhere, which some will no doubt think is a bit of a waste of its 4X pedigree but its good fun nonetheless.
I had a medium Dialled Bikes PA before and the Holeshot has the same completely rock solid feel of the PA but is a lot less gate-like. The flip side though is its no much fun to ride for any serious distance.
I’ve not ridden a Charge Blender other than briefly so don’t feel able to honestly comment on them.
sootyandjimFree MemberWhat kind of headset were you running?
Chris King headsets are known to damage steerer tubes due to the design used to circumvent the Aheadset patent.
sootyandjimFree MemberSorry, been away from the computer for a bit, some of those questions answered.
sootyandjim how heavy duty is yours and how well do you think it would work with a shim?
Mine is a little lighter than the listed weight (660g rather than 663g). I’m running mine with a shim (30.9 seat tube) with no problems and I’m not exactly a light rider.
sootyandjim, any chance you can let me know the measurement from the minimum insert mark to saddle rail please?
28cm or 11" in proper measurements.
How much with postage & duty?
This is where I have an advantage over most I’m sure as I have a brother who lives in the US. Postage was free to his house then he just re-sent it to me, as he does with all my US online bike kit purchases. It was about $16 I believe and I paid no duty on it.
KSI900 Super plush, no sideways play, just shell out and get one you wont regret…..
£120 plusher than a ST850? How plush do you need a post that goes up and down to be? Its not a suspension seat post.
No sideways play has developed in my ST850 yet and I’ve been using it since November in some absolutely grim conditions with no servicing or requirement to bodge an inner tube over it as seems to be required on some of the more expensive dropper posts.
End of the day its a dropper post that (if you use my method of purchase) costs just over £30. At that price its basically a consumable and for the £120 difference in price between and Sette Ryde ST-850 and a KSi900 I’m sure you could save the 100g difference somewhere you’ll actually feel it, such as the wheels.
sootyandjimFree MemberCan’t understand the facination with more jumps…
I can’t understand some people’s fascination with singlespeeding, but if we all like the same things it’d be a pretty dull world.
As I’ve said, rollable jumps would be fine, so that those who can’t understand them or just plain can’t ride them can avoid leaving the ground.
sootyandjimFree Membervdubbwe67 – They may be the nicest guys in the world but that isn’t the reason I choose not to use Freewheel.
sootyandjimFree Membernjee20 – In my experience one of the worst parts of the Surrey Hills for crashes is the bridleway leading towards Coldharbour from the tower. Not a jump in sight and a public right of way to boot.
As I’ve said, I agree that dug-out drops and jumps are not suitable for the sanctioned trails but there is scope for more than just straight-lining and flattening previously enjoyable trails into a sea of bench-cut blandness. As someone mentioned, they manage to include interesting trails at FC centres.
sootyandjimFree MemberGlenP – I don’t think I (or anyone else) was expecting ‘instant results’ in getting more interesting trails built when they started trail building with Redlands, but then again when I first started trail building with Redlands I was more jey than a very jey thing and only got my wheels of the ground when I used to put my bike in the car.
As my riding progressed and riding ability improved I enquired about building in more technical features, not dug out drops or jumps, just something a little more interesting than a straight piece of bench-cut trail. At the time we were building ‘Summer Lightning’ and was informed that "we won’t be putting anything too technical on here but when we start building the ‘DH run’ we’d welcome your input". Eventually when the ‘DH run’ was started near enough every suggestion that myself and the more progressive riders offered was poo-poo’d and so many hard-grafting volunteers stopped turned up and went to do their own thing. Hence the shambles that the ‘DH run’ became. Un-bermed and badly made switchbacks, lack of natural flow and a whole host of other niggles that meant very few people actually enjoyed riding it.
sootyandjimFree MemberI don’t really use LBS’s, which is just as well as Nottingham isn’t exactly good for them.
I pass a Leisure Lakes on the way to work, there is an Evans in town and Freewheel in Hockley should start wearing ski masks and carry bags with ‘Swag’ written on them to complete the being robbed experience.
The only one that I’ll give the time of day is Sherwood Pines Cycles. A nice bunch of blokes, a good selection of kit and considering their location, pretty good prices.
