Oh and,

Haven’t had to buy one for a while though.

Probably from Klein. They were the ones who seem to have started the internal routing thing.

Orange were probably just trying to make use of holes their dodgy welders had burnt in the cast iron their bikes are made from.

:p

Richyb – At least one other company I know of also routes cables through their (arguable better made) swing arms.

Dear Daily Mail,
Whilst I find bad language on the BBC disgusting I find the fact that some thieving vagabonds without TV licences get to view such outbursts for free.
Whipping is too good for them!

“Over-active Pie Arm”, lol. I shall try to make use of the term OPA today at some point.

What I have seen is two Prophets broken clean through at the headtube, not seen that on a five (yet).

Volume of sold product vs failures?

Like you do see loads of bad Five reviews? I must have missed those ones

Did I say the Five had bad reviews?

Its just the Prophet has outstanding reviews across the majority of the mtb press, is a comparable product and costs a damn sight less.

Unless the OP has ‘patriotic’ issues or some other irrational reason to spend his money of an arguably poor value product then choosing the Five over the Prophet would fall into the category of ‘fool and his money’.

Of course were the price of the Five to drop to one more comparable with the Prophet…

Oh, I just noticed, the term Crack-n-fail has appeared, how predictable. Of course Orange’s history of poor warranty support for its many failed frames is just ignored as the kind of quaint thing you get from a handmade British product producing company.

For the full house MrNutt you could mention how Orange bikes are the only bike that could have propelled Steve Peat to the top of the DH scene.

If I were in the market for a single pivot full sus frame I’d be looking at Cannondale rather than Orange.

As you say, Orange are very over-priced considering the relatively poor build quality and simplicity of the design (hardly paying off years of R&D are they?)

For some though the fact a frame is beaten out of old filing cabinets in the UK is enough to for them to swallow the premium of having a ‘Made in UK’ sticker on them, with the actual ride and build quality being secondary.

Its your money at the end of the day but you don’t see many bad reviews of Cannondale Prophets.

Most of the TV I watch comes via my computer hooked up to my TV from a Slingbox attached a second cable box sat in the spare room of my brother’s house in Michigan.

I pay $20 a month towards the overall cost, which gives me a whole host of movie channels, sports channels including my favorite NHLN, HD ice hockey, brilliant! All without needing a TV licence (though we do have one).

BBC America is also available and I’ve been informed that because I watch it from a non-UK based subscription service I wouldn’t require a TV licence to watch that either.

They should have showed the far superior cup tie between Forest and Derby instead.

Mediocre Premiership football, suprise suprise it went to extra time. 🙄

I’ve just driven up from junction 25 to 26 on the M1 and its down to one lane.

According to the local radio reports its very dodgy at the M1/M6 junction.

Still, I’m sure the Highways Agency has it all under control.

I don’t think he’s questioning your professional integrity, I’m sure most would agree that the reviews published in ST mag leave those of us mags a little in the shade (and no, thats not an attempt to suck up to the ST crew), its just that although you are reviewers you are also (I believe) human beings.

We humans (even the mighty members of the breed known as reviewers) are fallible creatures and can be coerced both consciously and subconsciously by others through a variety of means to look on those ‘others’ in a more favorable light.

I don’t believe he is suggesting bike companies lean on you with the promise of more ‘test camps’ in exotic destinations for a favorable review but trying out a new products for the first time in Moab rather than a damp field in Droitwich may unconsciously lead to a better piece of coverage for said item. Admittedly though ST rarely (if ever) gives a comprehensive review on an item in such a honeytrap, perfering it seems to (rightly) hold the full report until you’ve introduced said item to some UK Slop and Grime.

My work gave me a Tom Tom One sat nav, I already had a Garmin Nuvi. They’re very much the same really.

Anyone who jumps up and down saying one is better than the other is probably either,

a) A brand whore (apparently they exist, even for such bland items as sat navs).

b) Someone who considers what they spent on their recommended sat nav a lot of money and is justifying it to themselves.

or

c) Talking from their posterior.

Try before you buy though most of them are pretty much foolproof these days.

I’ve two bloody long rolls of it in my loft.

One is the matt black sort used on Chinook rotor blades and the other is the glossier type used on Lynx MRB’s.

If you’d like some you can have some for nowt. I’ve enough to last me about 4 lifetimes!

There are some amazingly naive people about if they don’t believe gifts and trinkets bestowed in order to create a positive opinion of a company, though not to the extent of trying in affect specific outcome, doesn’t go on in the bike industry. It happens in all industries.

Of course the term ‘bribe’ is too strong a word for what goes on as that in my mind conjures up images of brown envelopes stuffed with used notes but ‘corporate hospitality’ is a not insignificant industry for a reason. Keeping people you rely on happy is useful.

Oh, sorry, I missed the length of stay part.

I stayed here for a week a couple of years ago. Its on the outskirts of Dolgellau, a short walk from some good pubs (and a curry house) and the guy who runs it (Gilbert Gauntlet) is a proper eccentric. He’s an ex-surgeon who basically ran the town’s hospital and when you arrive he gives you a little demonstration on how to correctly light a fire (useful for all those confused townies who don’t have a clue).

I’ve also stayed at Bikers Retreat which is also excellent.

When my friend and I went in November we stopped at Tyn y Groes.

You can’t get much closer to the trail centre and the beer, food, rooms and storage for bikes and kit are first rate.

I’m popping out later but haven’t decided whether to go for the safe option of Sherwood Pines or stretch a little further and head in the direction of Eyam.

Hmmm, choices.

Sq, I think you should keep quiet before you get a solicitor having a chat with you!!

On what basis?

I don’t believe Sq accused Singletrack Mag directly of anything.

More comparable to a cross bow than a catapult really, the stock and slider providing better directional control over the projectile.
