Swiftacular – Have you actually listened to the latest Foo Fighters album ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’? Its a cracking album even though its very much a change from their usual form. ‘Skin and Bones’ is also a fantastic album which was recorded live and is made up of acoustic version of some of their songs, and even though it features some of their more famous songs (at least to a fan) they sound completely different and is a great example of their willingness to try new things, or creativity as its also known.

Of course any band that has got big, as popular and successful bands do, are often accused of ‘selling out’ but I’m not sure this label can be leveled at the Foos either. Whilst they did play some huge stadiums during their last tour tour (Wembley among others) they also played a lot of smaller venues in smaller cities, especially in the UK where their support has always been the strongest, proving that they aren’t just about capital cities and stadiums.

Would the Foo Fighters be famous at all if it wasn’t for Nirvana?

I only ask as I can’t recall a single one of their tunes.

    Burn the heretic!

The Foo Fighters are famous for being far more than just the band that the drummer from Nirvana started though if you don’t ‘get’ them there is little point in trying to convince you otherwise.

’Learn To Fly’ is probably one of their most famous songs, though I guess primarily because of the video.

85,000 in Hyde Park the other year certainly shows their fame isn’t something based purely on past deeds.

‘Citroen – full of technology’ now that scares the sh*t out of me.

It would have me too but the French are a damn sight better at building cars now than they used to be.

(Happy Citroen C4 owner. Yes the ‘full of technology’ car).

Always reminds me of joining the RAF this one.
    Slam – Eterna.

I had it on the ‘Retrospective of House’ CD and almost wore the discs out on my old Sony Discman listening to it on the way back to RAF Halton after a weekend in London.

Specifically it reminds me of Amersham station for some reason.

…why pay full price for a new car when in 3 years it will be worth 25% of that value…..

Because some folk want new cars, regardless of value in later years.

Luckily such folk are still about as otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to get my last ‘new’ car so cheap.

    They always are.

I’m sure if it were you have nothing to fear then. LL are a pretty big stockist for Cannondale and their expertise is often taken at face value, they might not even need to send your swingarm to ‘Dale for inspection.

I know that a few years back ‘Dale had a problem with a batch of Jekyll frames that caused a similar wear problem on the swingarm shock mount due to the main pivot not being machined to the usual high standard and thereby causing asymmetrical forces on the shock mount during suspension movement. It might be something that simple.

Yet still felt the need to comment on my post.

    Bless.

BTW, can you point out the inaccuracies in my post?

Unless its a ‘user error’ issue (you did do the shock mount bold up correctly didn’t you?) I’m sure Cannondale will sort you out. Their warranty department is very good (though can be a little slow sometimes) but compared to the likes of Orange their warranty department is a shining example for others.

Even if you are found to have been at fault (hey, you never know, you might have 5 thumbs per hand) Cannondale are pretty good for offering replacements at cost or subsidised replacements as a goodwill gesture.

Of course I’m sure its not your fault as it never is. 😉

oldfart – Stop being so negative. You people make me sick, always running down British companies.

Yes they are made in China but they are made in a very nice factory. Of course its in a totalitarian country that has recently change the manner in which it carries out executions to one arguably more painful for the victim so that their organs can be harvested and sold to ‘developed’ countries, but that wouldn’t look good written next to a picture of a Welsh beach so is strangely absent from the site.

Still, kudos to them. They seem to have found their niche and they aren’t short of an ‘ethical’ customer or two.

…If they offered clearance pruces then the stock pile would shrink surely…..

But the excuses given by car industry are,

    1) Selling off cars cheap devalues their brand.

    2) If the new cars in the stockpile are sold off cheap people won’t buy new cars off the production line.

Of course both arguments (as a consumer) seem pretty poor.

    1) Going out of business is pretty poor for a companies image, but then again because car companies are large scale employers governments can’t let them go out of business. A win-win for the car companies I guess.

    2) A percentage of **** all is still **** all. Those cars in the stockpile are dead money unless they are sold.

JohnClimber – I’m assuming that you didn’t learn to drive in a Model T Ford? Although I started MTBing years before suspension systems were contemplated for MTB’s its hardly a requirement to learn to ride on a rigid bike considering even very cheap bikes come with perfectly usable suspension forks now days.
Alluding to learning to ride on a rigid as being ‘proper’ is of course the kind of garbage one would expect to see on here though, unfortunately.

I used to own a YZF1000 and alright its not a modern bike but bear with me.
Whilst it was great having all that ‘ompf’ on tap if you are doing anything other than riding for hours on motorways/a-roads you’ll probably be better off sticking with something smaller as it’ll be easier to throw about and cheaper to own.
Whilst it was great to be able to open the taps coming out of a corner and leaving mates on 600’s behind come the next set of corners they’d be right back on my tail and whilst some might say thats down to ability I’m assuming you aren’t a regular on the WSB circuit!
Of course nowdays the raw ompf gap between 1000’s and 600’s has narrowed so its even less of a factor.
I’m looking at getting a bike again soon and must say I’m tempted to downsize to a 600.

    What about a Trance X?
Alright, its not ‘Gucci’ enough to impress some of the brand whores who frequent STW but they are certainly tough enough (the standard Trance is often to be found being hammered down 4X tracks).
5″ of travel, can be built up with 6″ travel forks if you like it a bit slacker at the front, they are relatively cheap and the savings can be put towards a better spec than you would have had with an over-priced alternative or put towards the cost of going somewhere overseas where you can really get some use out of it.
Also the bonus of buying from a well-established importer rather than some ‘mom and pop’ operation is that if something does break (and bikes made for ‘hooning around’ on sometimes do) then its more likely that you’ll be able to get the replacement part in the same year you order it in.
Oh and Orange have probably one of the most hit and miss warranty policies in the industry, which hardly inspires confidence in their confidence of their own product.

One of my colleagues has a Focus ST. Well when I say “has a Focus ST” I actually mean “brought a Focus ST but spends a lot of time driving the dealership courtesy car”.
He has had no end of problems with it and Ford are insisting on trying to rectify rather than replace even though in the 8 months he’s had the car its spent overall about 2 months back with Ford.
He’s starting to regret not getting the S40 T5 which he was going to get originally (before his inner ‘carpark racer’ had a word obviously).

What day are you going coffeeking? I was thinking of popping across on Sunday and if you take your FS we could meet up and mince around the black run together being passed by SS riding trail Gods. I could even bring my Alps bike for full ATGNI style points.

I work for the 6th largest employer in the world who are also the largest logistics company in the world yet the facilities available at our site for cyclists consist of an old corrugated iron lean-to for bicycles, a single knackered shower which is on a different floor from the locker room and a complete lack of interest in the cycle to work scheme.

Apparently in a company as large as ours there is no-one looking into the scheme and when I asked if I could take it on I was told “we’re holding that project for someone else”.

No problems with BT here either.

Had a problem with my broadband the other week and although the Indian call centre was ‘challenging’ once the person at the other end had worked through their prompt list an engineer was sent out (the same day nonetheless) and the fault (which was traced back to the exchange) was rectified the same day.

Of course I’m sure they were much better when they were state-owned and supported all manner of idle wasters who couldn’t cut it in the private sector.

Victaulic is here, although now back in his ‘pre-need to register’ forum name.

Those were the days. When the likes of Beer could have a whole thread to himself, arguing with various users names that he created for each of the ‘participants’ which he made up on the fly.

‘Victaulic’ was related to the work I did at the time of registering and since I no longer work in that field its been dropped.

Either that, or a transfer off your shift so it’s some-one else’s problem, or…the sack.

That would seem the obvious answer but apparently a few months back, whilst having discussion with the HR manager about the company wishing to move him to a day shift, the ghost popped his head around the door to say “hi” (or “help meee”).

What I actually believe is the issue is along the lines of what you’ve said, he’s terrified of the p!ss taking he’ll get from the day shift.

BTW, this chap is also the night shift union rep.

n.b. forks/dampers were ridden with all the clever stuff turned off/down

From what I know about the Maestro suspension system (probably not a lot all things considered) I believe as a system it works best with the simplest of shocks fitted. All the adjustability and clever damping that you find on many modern shocks interferes with the suspension action in a negative way.

My Trance has a very basic Fox Float R fitted but a ‘higher spec’ RP3 equipped Trance I’ve also ridden didn’t ride as well.

    No idea.

He also has a mark that apparently appears on his face (the chap, not the ghost) when he has been ‘visited’ but strangely it appears to be in a similar position to where I noticed he was constantly running his finger across his forehead (as if he has some sort of nervous tick) whilst he was working.

I’m not paid enough to deal with this cr@p.

DavidB – Well to be honest in these tight financial times it might be useful having a ghost on site, as long as he is productive of course.

Falkirk_mark – Unfortunately its well out of our hands on the shop floor.
