H_t_S – You’d have loved the girl I used to know in the Air Cadets then. She was both a lap dancer and ‘linked’ to a former tory MP.

If you look for a place on the Fields Farm Estate though don’t choose somewhere too far to the eastern end as one of the buildings down there (a warehouse) is a 24hr operation.

At least with the Conservatives in power you got proper sleaze.

Lap dancing mistresses, Chelsea football strip wearing bits on the side, MP’s with oranges in their mouths (as well as some other items scattered about) and possibly one of two midget strippers with trays of cocaine on their heads that we may not have heard about yet.

A bit of one-handed viewing is hardly newsworthy, in fact considering the low-quality of the poor chaps alternative sexual outlet we should be congratulating him for not being so desperate to go down that route.

    Bring back traditional values.

Long Eaton is hardly a village!

Two huge supermarkets (Tesco and Adsa) dominate the middle of the town and it has quite a large shopping area which is good for day-to-day stuff. It also has a large industrial side (mainly to the south and east of the town) that is predominately taken up by upholstery companies (a historical industry in the town).

I always though a lot of the snobbery in F1 (and with the Italians in particular) was all down to ‘pedigree’, with ‘non-pedigree’ teams being considered cheap, no matter what the truth of the matter?

Long Eaton – Far enough away from Derby but still with good transport links into it if you really must go there (train station with regular service, buses and not too bad a commute on bicycle), but also very well connected for Nottingham.

They realise that the appeal may well fail on technical grounds so they’re trying to make a lot of noise about how – if allowed to continue – it would ruin the spectacle of F1 & increase costs etc.

Does etc include “not allow the red cars an easy run of it and we can’t very well have these upstart, ‘cheap’ teams winning races can we”?

You know, the one about red cars being required to finish in points earning places in any race.

From what I remember of U-brakes a stick through the spoke was a far more reliable method of braking than trying to rely on the dreaded U.

    😉

Unfortunately there is no easy way to retrofit V brakes to U brake studs as,

    – They’re in the wrong place in relation to the rim.

    – The diameter of the posts are too large.

    – There are no spring anchor holes.

You could try mounting a V-brake on top of your seatstays though using something like this.

sootyandjim – That mustang is a beauty.

Unfortunately thats not my one (though its what I’m rebuilding mine to look like).

Mine is a little bit faded (it having been a California car) and in many pieces in my parents garage at the moment. One day though…….

They chug on forever and ever, you can fit half the world in the back of them (and the rest on top) and they’re great for sleeping in at MTB events (thats what I did with my old one.

I quite miss my old 240.

Head gasket on a Volvo 240 for ‘normal’ DIY.

It was my first car and I didn’t have much money but had a bit of time on my hands so thought I’d give it a go. Good thing about the Volvo 240 is that if you take off the fan shroud, fan and sump guard you can stand within the engine compartment to work on the engine.

The car seemed to drive better afterwards and did another 12k miles for me before I sold it and I still see the old beast every now and then as I sold it to a mate in London.

I’m currently (well I’ve had a year break from it due to lack of garage where I now live) rebuilding a ’67 Shelby GT350 (one of these) but thats not the sort of thing you are asking about though is it?

Have that Italian team with the red cars lodged a complaint yet seeing as they didn’t really get a look in all race?

I know the rules have been changed but surely not to the extent that the ‘Ferrari clause’ has been ditched?

    😉

Isn’t the ‘black run’ tag more a case of trail centre willy waving than a mark of its true technical nature, especially since the few technical bits that were in place when it was orginally graded have since been removed? Any trail centre worth its salt is expected to have a black run to attract the attention of the trail centre bible better known as MBR and thus they all try to include such a named trail, no matter what the actual technicality of said trail.

Button was very cool throughout and Hamilton didn’t have too bad a race really. The mix-up under the safety car at the end was a shame, would’ve been nice to see two Brits on the podium.

What a pleasure it was watching F1 without poorly timed adverts being thrown in willy nilly. I’d almost forgotten what it felt like. Cracking race and good to see Mr Kamikasi carrying on his usual tricks but without feeling the need to take anyone with him on this occassion. 😉

I’m usually pretty well behaved when it comes to buying bicycle components but once my brother asked me what I’d like for Christmas and jokingly replied “a carbon Lefty ELO for my Cannondale”. Thing is thats what he got me! Have you an idea how expensive they were as a fork only purchase a few years back?

Are you saying Oliver Cromwell wasn’t a Republican?

Seems to have a strange way of going about not being one. 🙄

To be honest it’d take a major shift in political will in this country to ever abolish the monarchy and we as a nation just don’t have the sort of drive required to do it anymore. As long as folk on the Clapham Omnibus have enough money to fill their bellies and buy another plasma TV they are content and politicians don’t really want the hassle of doing anything radical that might backfire and cost them their cushy job.

Many people elect MPs based purely on what colour rosette they are wearing rather than who they actually are and what they stand for so we’re bound to get a few dodgy ones slip through the net.

    🙁

Ah for the simplicity of an apolitical HoS representing the UK.

Molgrips – Indeed and this is the fact we kept reminding the staff through the shift as they grumbled.

Luckily we’re (management) still getting our bonuses (earned in and paid for from the last the last financial year BTW) so I’ll be able to get that new bike I’ve been looking at and afford to go somewhere nice to test it out.

Some cake would have been nice though.

…….. or they were weasily conniving cheats who conned these roles for themselves.

I thought you were describing the current political system of the UK there with a strong leaning towards those who find themselves on the cabinet.

At least Royalty (well at least heir to the thrones) are brought up to assume the position of HoS one day, what qualifications has your average MP got to lead this country, other than a laughable ‘mandate of the masses’? Many MPs these days haven’t even got any real world managerial experience having worked their way up as a ‘professional’ politician.

Even the great Republican himself, Oliver Cromwell, couldn’t resist taking control of the country and turning it into a tyrannical backwater. The current constitutional monarchy may not please everyone but it is a pretty foolproof system with many checks and balances based on the division of control (though with largely delegated powers in the case of monarchal responsibilities) in order to prevent such abuse of power by any one individual again.

Isn’t it just an own-brand version of ‘Flat Mate’ tyre weld and inflate, available for about £6.50 from many motor factors?

    Something like this.

Is there not enough space in the back for a proper spare wheel or was it the cheaper alternative? We got a full size spare with out Citroen C4 hatch but I’ve not seen the back of the Picasso version.

Compared to those surrounding the trough in the Palace Of Westminster the Royal Family are rank amateurs in the world of spin and scandal. Yes there was that thing with the dizzy tart from Northamtonshire but that was purely the result of straying from years of proven good practice and marrying outside of the approved circle.

Whilst MP’s are elected very few of them have the interest of their electees at heart, just getting high enough in the food chain to be able to use their influence for the good of large financial backers and hope to gain a directorship out of it when their political career is over.

Sod democracy, military junta with the current Commander-in-Chief taking on full control of her realm.

Some people have to call their boss ‘Sir/Ma’am’ or ‘Mr/Mrs’ ……..

Is this another level of oppression against the poor, downtrodden masses?

When I go to a nice restaurant I don’t want the Maitre d’ calling me “mate”. I’m paying his wages so I want a bit of bowing and scraping thankyouverymuch.

Sheffield – The home of women with faces like a blind cobblers thumb and where a proffered Barcardi Breezer is the ultimate opening line for a chat up.

I used to travel up to Sheffield regularly for a night out but for the club ‘Insomniacz’ rather than for the pug ugly local women.

I swore an oath of allegiance to the monarchy and I’m a man of my word so I guess thats my colours nailed to the mast of this particular thread.

Whilst I’m sure there are alternatives available I’m afraid that what with this country’s fixation with all things American we’d end up with only two political parties in the running to field a successful candidate for the position of elected head of state. Tack on all the pathetic spin, scandal, hype and damn right embarrassing lack of decorum that would surround an election campaign for a President and it just becomes another level of political baggage for the voter to grow apathetic towards.
