Despite being one of the “detractors” (as z1ppy so delicately put it) I fully support the use of e-bikes by those of limited mobility. Indeed I feel that there should be a scheme available to subsidise the cost of them for such people, hence refering to them as “motability mountain bikes”.

Yeah most hospital trusts don’t allow staff to wear uniform going to and from work.

None of the trusts I’m familiar with have this policy.

My current trust only mentions that staff should wear a coat over their uniform when travelling to/from work. My future employer doesn’t even mention where ‘standard’ nursing uniform can/can’t be worn, only specifically mentioning where theatre/ITU scrubs may be used.

Implementing this sort of policy is impractical for many trusts for simple cost reasons. In order to have a “no uniform outside of work” policy there are many things that have to be provided, not the least of which are changing rooms with secure storage for non-work clothing. In many trusts there just isn’t the room in hospitals to provide this.

Would nurses not wearing uniforms on PT actually help?

Probably not in the majority of nursing roles. Nursing staff are far more aware of hygiene than their patients and visitors, the two groups that are far more likely to bring infections into and out of hospitals. The 5 moments of hand hygiene is far more important for infection prevention than where uniforms are worn pre and post shifts.

Hopefully if Johnson tries to embarrass the Queen again he’ll get a very quick and final lesson regarding to whom HM Forces swear their allegiance to.

Wipe clean keyboards are a thing, but they’re apparently not cheap and hence IM&T don’t supply them.

We use these on my current Intensive Care Unit.

    SterileFLAT Antibacterial Backlit Keyboard SF17-02-BL

It’s pretty much moot though, given that we don’t have changing rooms (to get into scrubs, as with most ITUs) and have to wear the same nursing uniform as everyone else in the hospital (including to and from work).

I really want a PNW Loam, they look lovely and have great reviews as does most of their kit. I think that is where I will be heading when one of mine breaks.

To be honest, other than the rubbery bit you get for your thumb on the PNW Loam lever, the ZTTO one is identical.

You could buy a ZTTO lever, a lump of table tennis bat rubber and some contact cement for far less than the £68 it costs for a PNW Loam.

    That said, it’s your money.

    What a gimlet.

“But, but it’s not cheating as the rules didn’t exist when I got the bike and and and I offered to help British Cycling but they didn’t want my help, and and and other people cheat so there, and and and it’s not fair because I spent loads of time and money on this…”

    Cretin.

Its pretendy bicycles. Whether or not a small amount of people have turned pro off the back of its is immaterial, it’s just tarted up Spin Cycles hooked up to a computer game. “Power ups”? Why not include a banana skin launcher and go full-on Mario Cart?

I watch NHL games direct from my brother’s cable package in Michigan.

He has a Slingbox attached to an extra cable box set aside for me and I just stream it to my TV at home, watch it via Slingplayer on my phone or cast it to another TV (if I’m away from home or at a friends for instance).

No blackouts and I get every other channel on his cable package too.

Cheers folks, looks like I’ll be veering towards a non-folder from Gumtree/FB Marketplace.

I’ve been toying with the idea of a ‘racer’ and might look for a CX type bike or similar.

There are plenty of places you can park around Cannock for free so I’m not bothered about a price rise.

In fairness to Hope, I’ve only ever had one item of their kit fail on me and that was an XC hub that I was giving a hammering to on my DH bike.

I have moved away from their products though, not for quality reasons but for cost ones. I just don’t feel Hope’s quality is significantly better than other brands to justify their much higher prices. I understand that for some the “Made in the UK” tag is all the justification they need to pay more but I’ve never been one for such jingoistic nonsense.

@somafunk – I too have a dog very much like Toby, his name is Frank and he loves birds but seems to hate cats (“good boy Frank, good boy…”)

We rarely see neighbourhood cats in our garden anymore as, for a little bundle of fur (he is a Cavachon), he can move pretty fast.

The springs on the Lauf forks are made of military spec S2 glassfiber…

    Urgh. “Military spec”.

Unless it’s been given to a couple of bored squaddies to fiddle about with for a few days and survived it’s not ‘military spec’!

So you are saying the remain vote has to rely on people dying to win?

    Unfortunately so.

Comfortable Baby Boomers are more likely to vote conservatively and act in their own self-interest. Hence why many of that generation, who picked up property for peanuts and as a consequence have been able to squirrel away a decent nest egg, are so scared of the bogeyman of ‘foreigners coming to get their money’, as presented by the gutter press, voted leave.

A generation of selfish and inwards looking people, who benefited from the post-war boom, the introduction of the NHS and a host of other things that have benefited their bank accounts, now wanting to pull up the drawbridge, lest someone else wish for even just a small slice of the advantages they were given.

10 years late? Pah, that’s nothing. Our German friends are the European masters of construction delays and cost over-runs at the moment, with the farcical Berlin Brandenburg Airport project.

    – Planning started in 1991.

    – Construction started in 2006.

    – Now planned to open in 2021.

    – Cost estimated at €2.8b, currently at €6.9b.

    German efficiency at its finest.

My wife reduced her hours teaching in a school so that she only works there two days a week and more than makes up the difference in wages with online tutoring.

Interestingly the vast majority of the people she tutors are home schooled rather than in-school students picking up additional help. It’s far from just ‘rich kids’, with a number of those she tutors having ASD and in receipt of funding to assist their learning.

My wife also works as an exam moderator and keeps herself up-to-date with the content and marking schemes of both boards that do her subject (Psychology).

im sure you ve seen like i have that a 50 cal is well over the top..

Having unfortunately seen what .50 BMG does to humans I’d say it’s likely overkill for many animals but similar calibre pistol rounds are often used in ‘stopping pistols’ by hunters.

    sootyandjim

Also, why the hell would you need a 50 cal rifle, that wont just stop an animal (elephant aside) it would poke a hole the size of your head in it – i could understand a decent 7.62 however.

Unfortunately most ARV officers are armed with 9mm and 5.56mm calibre weapons, which whilst good calibres to prevent over-penetration of human targets, may do little against larger animals and/or those who have more dense muscular build.

I injured myself whilst training for a 4X race back in 2008, was unable to ride for quite a while as a result and sort of fell out of the habit once I was back to fitness.

I got back into playing ice hockey and never really missed mountain biking. Tried to get enthused about it a couple of times but, having drifted away for ‘bike people’ found it difficult to get myself up for going out by myself, so just stuck with the ice hockey.

Eventually I picked up an injury with put me out of ice hockey too and it never really healed properly, which meant I was often playing either out of shape or carrying said injury. Decided to call it a day with the ice hockey and, after bit of soul searching, decided to give mtbing another try.

I still had a few frames and components from before stashed away so built up a Dialled Bikes Holeshot to just play about on, then brought a NOS Dialled Bikes Love/Hate for longer distance stuff and found a couple of local mtb groups who’d let me tag along.

Earlier this year I brought a Mk1 Cotic Rocket frame and built that up with components brought from on here and FB etc and, whilst I’m nowhere near as fit as I once was nor out 2-3 times a week, I am enjoying myself again. Doubt I’ll ever get back into racing, I’m just doing it for fun nowadays.

And according to figures very low number of unemployed people in the UK.

Ah, the benefit of including zero hour contracted individuals in ’employment’ figures, as well as a few other statistical fudges the current government loves to use to massage the numbers.

    Lies, damned lies and statistics.

20% less hours means that the NHS will need 40-50k more doctors in ten years time.

It’s not as simple as that.

Work-related cumulative injuries, stress etc and their comorbidities account for a large amount of the NHS’ workload. If the hours individuals within the workforce as a whole have to work are reduced, then it is quite reasonable to suggest that there could well be a reduction in demand on NHS services.

It’s well documented that a poor work/life balance is one of the leading causes of in-work stress and then poor health in later life.

notice how few Europeans are on this forum, wasting working time…

I’m a European, as I’m sure the majority of posters on here also are. Regardless of Brexit connotations, the UK is still a European country.

If you mean “mainland Europeans” then perhaps they’re over on dassingletrackworld.de or some such forum that isn’t based on the English language? Have you checked?
