Who charges £50 for a front mudguard?

Ah, just take the Tom Simpson approach. Fill up on Amphetamines and hope nothing goes ‘pop’.

    Worked alright for him…

    Wayyy ahead of you ‘grimep’.

Why is it that the more I read the tosh Jordan et al spew forth onto IG the more I think they watch Nathan Barley as if it was an instructional series rather than a comedic one?

I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the cretins at Sick described themself as a “self-facilitating bicycling node”.

Well tj, isn’t the respectful way of treating others just to politely point out to them that this isn’t how things are done locally, and explain the rules and background, rather than to post a shouty thread, calling out the offenders by name in the title, and accusing them of disrespect.

But such a sensible course of action wouldn’t allow him to tack up his lofty member of the species Equus ferus caballus and wave his shouty stick at Sassanachs.

    Ahh, “unwritten boundaries”.

If they were written down somewhere it might help people avoid straying too close to them. As it is though, what with them being “unwritten”, perhaps there is the danger that said boundaries change dependant upon circumstances and the individual who has taken it upon themselves to uphold them?

If you think about it for a little bit, MotoGP bikes hit bumps much, much faster. At those speeds, something that seems like a minor undulation on a fairly smooth track turns into a high-frequency bump. The frame flex issue was about damping those lateral forces.

As anyone who has done a track day at an airfield will likely attest to.

It’s amazing how a runway that seems quite smooth when belting along it in the back of an aircraft can feel like a potato field when hammering along it on a motorbike.

I agree with ‘vinnyeh’. This thread seems to have developed into a vehicle for a few of our neighbours from the North to have a whinge about the English. Not that some Scotsmen need an excuse to whinge about the English…

Unless it’s a genuine Bushnell EBB then they are pretty crap.

Not sure I’d agree with that. The Phil Woods EBB on my Love/Hate has been faultless.

Look for a frame with an Eccentric Bottom Bracket (EBB), then you don’t have to worry about adjustable disc brake mounts and generally you have the choice of running single speed or geared.

My Dialled Bikes Love/Hate has an EBB and it’s a cracking little frame.

    Did they ever fight anyone?

I’m guessing Mr Neck Beard and his gimp would soil their supe-rad pantaloons if they ever stumbled into a real world encounter with one of their less-than-impressed ‘customers’.

I take it they don’t do the catalogue/magazine thing anymore?

Last time I walked past the one in Nottingham it still had the catalogues in those little plastic holders outside.

Given the continuing apartheid in Israel I’ll be giving Eurovision a miss this year thanks.

Perhaps if PW Botha’s South Africa had taken part in Eurovision a bit of glittery pop would have disguised their apartheid too?

And yes, I am great fun at parties.

Hate to be negative and all but…what does this bring to the market that many frames offered by established brands don’t already?

I know for some the appeal is purely a bike that none of their mates have got but how big is that market?

Half the uk’s population live within this circle (note, quite a lot of it is sea). It’s probably right that half the money is spent there too..

So how much of that sweet, sweet ‘Southeast’ money gets thrown at Birmingham, Leicester, Peterborough, Northampton, Norwich etc?

    Here’s a starter for one.

Whilst the government is tripping over itself to throw money at London-centric transport projects, the funding for electrifying the Midland Mainline (which runs through a fair bit of that circle) was cancelled. Its now going only as far as Corby and Market Harborough, failing to reach the 9th, 10th and 13th most populace areas in the UK (Nottingham, Sheffield and Leicester Urban Areas).

So whilst London benefits from the Midland Mainline electrification at the Thameslink end the rest of it has the prospect of 44 year old diesel trains being used for the foreseeable future and having to have their ‘fast’ services held up by (Thameslink) commuter trains as they’re being given priority.

I much prefer living in my former mining and steel town…

    Somewhere in the Erewash Valley?

As someone brought up ‘Dahn Sahf’ (SE London) I love living in the East Midlands. Yes there are occasionally things I miss about living in London but much of it is either available in other, friendlier local(ish) cities or (if it requires a visit to London) it’s only about 90 minutes away by train. There are a fair few places in the southeast that you’d struggle to get to London from in that time.

It’s the best of both worlds. Close enough to London if you really must, but far enough away to avoid getting dragged into the SE bubble.

Nah the Transition UK guy was called Jamie.

I believe he had his backside kicked by Kyle (the Transition owner) after Jamie decided to contact someone’s boss to whinge about comments made about Jamie’s pricing policy.

Having a read of one of the other Sick threads and the topic of the ‘Industry Flounce’ was brought up.

I remember a few years back when the guy who first started bringing Transition Bikes into the UK had a full-on meltdown and flounce. Ah, they were the days.

This Jordan fella seems to think he is carving a path but this ‘Edge Lord’ attitude, leading to petulance once called out and dribbling into woe-is-me after reality comes knocking has been done many times before and by better.

The t-shirts they sell are quite good though.

I did get a job offer from Wiggle once, but that was never going to work.

When they were still in Portsmouth I’m guessing?

I do a fair bit of Wild Camping using Shanks’s Pony (with my dog in tow) but have always fancied trying it by bike.

My new bike (and the one I foresee using) is a Cotic Rocket. Does anyone know of any frame bags that fit?

Point being you would have to take bricks to the post office and they’d make you pay.

UKIP had a FREEPOST address, hence why I didn’t have to pay.

Hands up if you believe they went to Asia!

    Anyone?

    Anyone?

I reckon the closest they got to Asia was the New Asia takeaway, 136 Montague St, Worthing…

Bricks dont fit through letter boxes, you need roofing tiles!

To be honest I wasn’t considering the actual ease of delivery, rather what it would cost them.

…contractual rights can be weighed against patient safety.

Whilst weighing contractual rights against the ‘customer’ may cut it in other industries the safety of the patient is and has to be the higher measure in healthcare, especially so the more acute the type of care being provided is.

Across the entire NHS we are seeing the effects of staff shortages, and whilst battles can be fought and won at (very) local levels regarding contractual rights, it is often very much as a result of ‘robbing Peter to pay Paul’.

My sympathies are with the OP and as I touched upon, I would suggest they speak to their union rep (who will have experience and knowledge particular to this field), rather than ask random folk on the internet who can wheel of line and verse something they heard in an HR meeting many years ago.

Unfortunately this ‘adjusting’ of staff leave ratios is the effect of trusts having to cope with government-level policy and mismanagement and thus is unlikely to be solvable without a change in government.

I work for the NHS. Our departmental manager is changing the rules that have been in place for 20+ years.

If you work in a clinical area then the first priority is and must be safe staffing levels to ensure the safety of the patients.

The previous policy may have been in place for 20+ years but your managers will likely be dealing with the realities of staffing in the current NHS, not that which existed in 1999. Unfortunately the Tories are pretty much wrecking the NHS at the moment and tje uncertainty of Brexit is only making things worse.

Have you spoken to your union about this?

    I feel your pain.

At a mere 42 years old my body is starting to pack up (especially my ankles and knees) but this was probably not helped by a parachute accident a few years back. Bilateral de-gloved lower legs, spinal compressions and a dislocated shoulder kind of come back to haunt you eventually.

Sadly, from speaking informally with surgical colleagues (I’m a nurse), its unlikely knee replacements would be suitable, so I’ll potter on for as long as I can. Luckily I get on really we with the physiotherapy team on my unit and they have given me some fantastic advice, which oddly enough includes cycling, hence why I’ve thrown myself back into it with gusto.

where’s the hard-hitting piece from the mag anyways?

MTB mags rarely seem to do proper journalism so I wouldn’t hold your breath. Why bite the hand that feeds?

I find it best to look upon MTB mags as being ‘independently’ produced sales brochures, bulked out with actual adverts and occasional aspirational articles.

Cynical? Perhaps. But I’d wager the MTB press industry is far more reliant on the good graces of suppliers than the other way around.

As ‘Brakes’ says, bang it on the classifieds. You can describe it as having had a custom weight reduction to really make some money.
