Bedmaker. Is that hatch to get access to the sweep access on your flue pipe?
If that’s your flue pipe then that wooden hatch is too close for the regs.
Did you get a hetas cert after it was fitted?

    Mine cost about £1000.
We picked everybody up and dropped them off about 30 during the day, paid for all the food, wine and beer during the day. Had fireworks. Then hired a room for the evening do and put on finger food/nibbles. A wedding night in a local hotel, then off to the old dungeon ghyll for a few nights.
    Been 14 years now

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it.
I have told most people I know who have not seen it to go and see it.

Not a tabloid but the north Devon journal had a headline of

Man tried to set fire to a packet of peanuts and make love to an ambulance.

I got screwed by a tenant once and had to write off £2750 in missed rent/costs.
Got a ccj against her which was useless waste of money. Got fed up with throwing money away after she changed her name. It was going to cost me £100 to change the name on the ccj.
She now drives round in a brand new Ford S max.

I am a big believer in what goes around comes around.

Had a fantastic tenant for nearly 5 years now.

You have to get rid of the cold plug of air at the top of the chimney first to get the best draw on first lighting.
Lighting some paper or a fire lighter will do.
All chimneys draw/work differently because of lots of different factors.
Open both top and bottom air vents.
Paper/fire lighters + kindling, let it get going with the door slightly open.
Keep your eye on it then decide if some more kindling is needed, if so put a bit more on. Then place dry (less than 20% moisture) small/medium sized logs on. Leave door still ajar until it is going properly, then close door and control with the air vents.
Stoves work best when hot(driven hard). Most people close the air vents down too early and let them slumber which is an inefficient way of burning wood. Best to have a smaller stove working hard than a bigger one in slumber.
Also people forget that all stoves/chimney systems work differently in different houses and locations.
Just remember heat is the key to a stove working well.

If you are fitting a defra approved stove in a smokless area then it has to be lined with a stainless steel flexible liner and then insulated with leca or vermiculite to get it signed off by hetas/building control.

It just so happens that I woke up this morning after a good mates wedding yesterday feeling hungover.

I had decided a few weeks ago to stop drinking again after his wedding, so my first day is today.

I did 5 months of the booze a couple of years back and I agree with the op on the benefits of being booze free.

Plus my wife said she slept better because I stopped snoring. :-)

Sharkbait – you have had good advice from your fitters. We always fit a liner down clay liners and we always use stainless steel single skin flue off the stove instead of enamel pipe. Make sure they have an expansion joint as well.

We only use fire cement when we do need to use anything. If you drive your stove hard it will exceed 250deg.

It is only suitable up to 250 deg celcius.
Flues get alot hotter than that!
You should have used fire cement.

I fit stoves for a living. I would say it is just the compound curing. New stoves give off a smokey haze the first few times they are lit and they stink which is sort of similar.
Is the register plate sealed properly?
Idealy you should have flue lined your chimney, but hey who i am to tell you what to do.
Definitely get a carbon monoxide detector though!

I fell 7m 10 years ago and smashed my calcaneum and broke the talus into 4 piece’s.

Not been riding for about a year to give my foot/back a rest.

Here are my pics to help try and cheer you up! You are not alone!!!
