I presume you got the previous 680Ma driver from Blackcat on fleabay? looks like he doesn’t do that stuff any more.

Try this. This driver has been used as an alternative.

My town already has a waitrose…and an Iceland right next door, a Lidl couple hundred yards away and a tesco metro along with a Co-operative. And a Tesco a mile outside of town.

Some of the Snobby Residents of Teddington fought successfully against a Sainsburys metro opening in the high street, claiming among other things, it would lead to anti-social behaviour. 😯 It would have been in the posh end of the high street. There was talk they would have preferred a Waitrose, the posh end already has an M&S simply food store.

The “rough end” of the high street already has a Tescos, but even up this end the local greggs closed down.

Someone remind me about this in a year, what say we all go have a nice ride in the Surrey Hills next Rememberance Sunday. Maybe meet in Westcott, ride over to Peaslake for 1045 to pay our respects, have a cuppa and a chat with the locals and the Legion, then ride on.

Consider this your reminder Mcboo. 8)

I know that the media and particularly the BBC have a duty to keep the general populace informed but the way that it was done was sensationalist to the verge of panic-mongerming.

One of us must have been watching the alternate reality BBC news programme, as I watched it this morning and didn’t see any of this “verge of panic-mongering” you speak of.

So much jealousy.

Nothing to be jealous about, unless of course you like taking one old soulless(Vicarage 😉 ) box and turning it into a modern day version of a soulless box.

The idea of changing houses of this type of design is a good idea.

Can I just replace the bulb only, or do I need anything else?

If your 12v transformers are electronic, then you will need to change them for LED drivers. It’s a pain in the proverbial when trying to replace mr16’s, because of transformer/dimmer issues and a reasonable quality LED rated at 5Watts is really only equivalent to 35Watt halogen, and they are more expensive than GU10 equivalents, and even more expensive when you add the driver.

As a commercial installer, we have found the megaman 7Watt Gu10s are very good for retro fits.

IMBA UK always seems to have struggled and I suspect it’s in its death throes.

Pretty much is, spoke to them recently, they are more geared towards dealing with a national cycling body these days, not small disparate groups dotted around the UK. That said, they are concentrating on mainland Europe with IMBA EU.

I think the problem for Imba UK was, there already were volunteer trail builders, professional trail building companies, and Trail centres on forestry land, all established before they arrived on these shores, so what’s the point of them? They could advocate on issues such as gaining access to more land etc.

Over on mainland europe, Imba have industry sponsors, can get national and EU funding to build trails and trail centres…all the things the UK did over a decade ago…

I think this shows just how middle aged(grumpy)this forums is.

Have a listen to some of the stuff on XFM or 6music to understand what vacuous means, it makes the majority of the bands mentioned above sound like they were lyrical and musical geniuses.

If your budget doesn’t allow for proper brakes then fine,

Are you the sort of person that says you have to have a bike above a particular price point to be classed as proper?

Used Hopes, used hayes, Now use Shimanos, the hopes were fine, the hayes a bit less so, the Shimanos have been good. I’m not someone who would spend the kind of money these days on bikes and bits as I did a few years back, so stuff like shimano is good for the price.

Got an old Shimano 4pot Xt brake on the front of one of my bikes, coming up to 10years old, I’ve serviced and bled it twice in that time.

It just works…unlike those hayes nines I had.

I did the C2C 13years ago. I did Whitehaven to Sunderland. We left London and headed to Newcastle on the train, then across to Carlisle and down to Whitehaven. Then we rode to Keswick and stopped there overnight. We also stayed in that slightly loony pub the allenheads inn.

A few things: We rocketed through the lakes in an afternoon, which is a shame. A navigational error on the off-road climb up hartside left us in a vertical field populated with vertical sheep.

The run along the old disused railway line from Consett to Sunderland was as dull as ditchwater. A few navigational problems around the scrap yards near the stadium of shi…light in Sunderland.

Went to stay with friends in Newcastle(Jesmond0 afterwards, which was good.

Would I do it again? Absolutely.

I was bullied by the same kid from Junior school right through to secondary. Didn’t do very well and got put into a class full of the “lowest achievers”. Some of the kids weren’t bad, so I then engineered a situation that lead the bully to upset these kids, and they chased him across town one day after school.

I got hauled up in front of the year head and asked whether I knew anything about this, I said I didn’t. He never bothered me again.

Found out that his father was an alcoholic, who abused his mother. The bully ended up in prison in later life, convicted of assault. I still don’t feel too much sympathy for him.

Enjoyed that. Been on the North bank at the Vetch a few times with a friend of mine Richard Lillicrap, who helped get the supporters trust going around the time of Petty. Will be looking out for them in the PL since my team QPR got relegated.

Richard was a mountain biker, we used to ride around the Surrey hills, Afan, CYB and Elan valley.

Richard died in 2007. I do miss him. 😥

Oh for the black and white world of a leftie or righty. I have cross-dominance, which is not quite left, not quite right, not quite ambidextrous.

I write with my right hand, hold stuff with handles with my left, but can also do right, I play drums right and left handed, Guitar right hand only, Football with both left and right, knife and fork opposite way around, and on and on.

People with cross-dominance are supposed to have issues like which is the dominant eye, and balance issues. I seem to be alright with eye dominance, but the balance stuff might explain a few of the weird crashes I’ve had on my bike. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. 😳

Mrs GDRS and I used to take the gravel path round the outside for a lap or two on the singlespeeds. Nothing technical but it does stretch the legs.

Do it a couple of times a week, all year round on the track, good for keeping oneself ticking over, also bits of Wimbledon common, up the river along to Hampton court and bushy park. Avoid it all Summer weekends.

But as there is no street lighting at all you do feel alone for an hour or two.

It’s quite surprising how quiet it gets after 8pm in the Winter, I suppose all the commuters have passed through, the dog walkers and runners are finished. I would have thought there would have been a few more roadies around.

Ok, here goes,

The basics:

500bar Fuel injection pressure limit
15,000 Maximum rpm, down from 18,000rpm
100kg fuel, down from 160kg
100kg is the maximum fuel flow rate allowed per hour, so fuel efficiency is vital. They have to be 30% more efficient than the previous engines while trying to achieve the same output.(750bhp)

Two types of energy recovery:(ERS)

Heat as well as kinetic energy may now be recovered.

The regulations refer to the two devices as the ‘Motor Generator Unit – Kinetic’ and ‘Motor Generator Unit – Heat’. The latter uses heat energy from the turbo to generate electrical energy.

161bhp Power boost from ERS, up from 80bhp from KERS
33.3s Duration of boost available, up from 6.7s
2MJ Maximum energy that can be harvested from ERS, up from 400kJ
4MJ Maximum energy that can be used from ERS, up from 400kJ

Only 5 engines per driver per season, down from 8, they have to last twice the distance of the previous engines. Also, if there is a failure of ERS, turbo, an exhaust, battery or control electronics failure you will have to use a sixth power unit and incur a 10 place penalty. Today it’s only the engine itself which attracts a penalty.

Thermal efficiency 40%, up from 30%.

Get a set of new Shimano Deore brakes – they are so cheap and work so well it makes my brain hurt.

You can even cut the hoses down to the right length and put them back to together without haveing to bleed them.

Didn’t have avids, but hayes nines on one bike, with Shimano on the others. The nines were good, but bleeding them was just a pain in the backside. Ditched the nines and Bought some Deores.

Had to do the hose cut on both…it’s too easy, and without the bleed. Result.

By lively I mean pubs, shops, restaurants and stuff actually happening nearby

If you come out of that road where that flat is and turn left there are a few pubs down on the right and a couple of restaurants like this. Surbiton itself has some decent pubs and restaurants, and then you have Kingston, and of course hop on the train to central London.

Sonor

I had earmarked Surbiton (and this place looked good) as a good compromise between decent commuting distances for cycling or train and lively/interesting place to live. However, people have started telling me it’s dull and boring.

Eh? 😯

What’s their definition of boring? That flat is yards away from the Thames, you have Home park, and bushy park across the river and Richmond park within a few miles, Kingston a stones throw away with stuff like the rose theatre, and you’re twenty five minutes from Waterloo station and all that London has. Also twenty minutes by train in the other direction plonks you at the foot of the North downs and Surrey hills beyond. Surbiton(I’m fairly local) a pretty good place when compared to Epsom and Egham above.

I’ve installed quite a lot of LED’s into commercial installations, Collingwood are good, had those on a couple of sites for four years now with no reliability issues.

If you already have Halogen down lighters, then the megaman 6Watts are very good for retro-fit. The 2800k (warm white)is a very, very close match to 50Watt halogens in terms of colour and output.

If you are fitting new, then the JCC fireLED 7’s are very good also, the power connections on the top of them are a little fiddly.

Sonor

How do those megaman 6W LEDs compare to 11W CFLs?

They would in my opinion, blitz them.

I’ve said before and I’ll say again

http://www.collingwoodlighting.co.uk/cnb/shop/collingwood

Are very nice quality.

First used collingwood stuff in 2009, not suffered one failure in four years, good quality.

Ok, These retrofit leds have to pack a lot into a tight space in order for them to fit into halogen light fittings, which means their life is “technically” half the life of a dedicated LED fitting. That means the driver will get affected by heat a lot more and the heatsink isn’t as comprehensive as dedicated LED fittings.

It may be worth you checking that there is enough free air around the fittings in the ceiling, I.E, no insulation around them.

What also comes into it is who the manufacturer of the leds bulbs are. I’ve had a look on simplyleds website, and their own brand pretty much look the same as the bulbs offered by a few other online websites. Kosnic have been producing LEDs or a few years, but have suffered from reliability problems.

I would certainly recommend buying bulbs from recognised brands such as Philips, I would also recommend Megaman’s 6Watt LED’s, have fitted quite a few of these in retail properties over the last year.

I’m sorry, but that’s all I can suggest.

I liked santa cruz bikes, I had a blur about ten years ago, great bike.

But the last full sus I bought was £1600. It does everything that that particular santa cruz does, except one thing. It doesn’t make me look like a prick.

I can live with that disapointment.

Well I’m struggling to think of anything from the 70’s that has aged well. Even me.
