Maybe a few more days yet before we hear anything, My mum had open heart surgery two weeks ago, and was in Hospital 8 days, surprisingly no complications, now at home on the long road to recovery.

Bruised to hell though.

It does make me laugh that Londoners accuse others of being parochial. Its the most parochial place in the whole bloody country. Politics, the media, the arts, everything, is so self-absorbed, inward-looking and insular, with little or no interest in anything going on outside its own ego-fuelled epicentre, – and in some cases the kind of patronising, condescending contempt shown above – its laughable

😆

You sound like a jilted lover.

I grew up in West Kensington/Notting Hill/Sheperds Bush. West Kensington sounds posh, but it most certainly wasn’t in the 70’s. They were just knocking down the last of the terraced housing from the 1850’s, when it was occupied by the “criminal class”, the victorians had maps showing what class of people lived where. Played in the ruins, and saw the Sweeney being filmed around there, Dad worked at BBC television centre(no, his name isn’t rolf harris), even still had rag and bone men in a steptoe and son stylee.

Moved out to Kingston upon thames, and am still in the neighbourhood. I think I have the best of both worlds relatively speaking, 25 minutes in each direction on the train and I’m in central London or out in the Surrey Hills. The house is now worth six times more than what I paid for it in the nineties(I’m a dollar millionaire ), which reflects the complete lunacy of property prices across London.

This idiot of a Mayor has spent more time attracting “Foreign investment”(marketing property) which can now be seen altering Londons skyline with tower blocks, and very little time on affordable housing, and I really wish someone would take up Ripleys suggestion when it comes to the city of London and “nuke the site from orbit.”

Good: Multicultural, bucket loads of things to see and do,
Bad: Definately being socially cleansed, stupid prices.

I have never visited madame tussauds, gone on the London eye, or the Tower of London.

QPR rather than a proper prem team

Well if every “prem” team must have a convicted drink driving alleged rapist in their team, I’m more than happy my team is not a proper prem team.

Not a jersey as such, but I’m using these at the moment. They are to all intents and purposes a Bamboo and cotton T-shirt, but broken riders/trail42/exempt clothing sell them for mountain biking, albeit roughly twice the price because of the logos they print onto them.

They behave pretty much like a normal cycle jersey, nice and cool, however:

1: If you wear a backpack, it can become a bit sweaty underneath it, and being a thicker material, it doesn’t dissipate that moisture as fast as a standard jersey

2: Being bamboo, these tops shrink in the wash, although only one of my tops has shown any shrinkage so far.

3: You can wear them off the bike as they are a T-shirt.

I went to a garden party/BBQ/Live Music in London, and the amount of paper plates, cups, food, bottles etc, that was left all over the garden.

All these people had an association with an organisation, and the guy had let them use his garden.

If this is how people behave to people they know, how much crap are they dropping on the streets?

They roam in herds around my way. The council here in Surrey is Surrey county council or SCC, it should be renamed to Santa Cruz county, or Santa Cruz Central.

All brands have their time in the Sun, Santa Cruz were popular around here in the mid 2000s, along with Ellsworths, A few LBS sold them. They sort of disappeared for a bit, Now there is another LBS selling them to those with a hell of a lot more disposable income than me.

That said I did own an original Blur, great bike.

I’ve just put my Klein Attitude frame into storage in the attic. It was my first proper mountain bike, so I’m very attached to it. But, as time went on, it got more and more scratched, so I stopped using it until time and finances allow me to get a respray and rebuild it back into its former glory.

Either that, or I’ll place the frame in a glass case and hang it on the wall. I could never dream of selling it.

No, no, no. Didn’t you get the memo?

I laugh in the face of spec, I fart in your general direction, I wave my private parts…you get the picture. 🙂

I really like Giant bikes but the frame and parts on a same priced canyon are a mile ahead.

Well If I’m going to buy a bike, I’d base it on ride quality, so a test ride is a must.

There are about 55 breweries of various sizes now in that there London.

Two of my favourites are Moncada doing Notting Hill beers available in pubs and Oddbins,

And Weird Beard.

And if you are in Dorking, there’s cobbetts real ales, which is almost opposite head for the hills.

compare a 10yr T4 and a 10yr Transit.

Real workers use transits, and accordingly they get wrecked, while people “playing” at trades use VW’s.

I understand the mesh heads are more like acoustic drums, but you need to spend a wee bit more for them

Yes, had a very long play on a Roland TD-30KV V-Pro Electronic Drum Kit at Andertons in Guildford. Fantastic drums…for five and a half grand! 😯 Want soooo much…

My sister has a small house with close neighbours, so it has to be an electronic kit for the nephew…initially.

And I don’t have fifteen cymbals, only fourteen. They are Sabian AA: 10″ splash, 10″ China splash, 14″ fusion and regular hats, 14″ thin crash, 16″ bright and rock crashes, 18″ crash ride, 20″ rock and regular rides, 20″ China.

AAX: 6″ Splash, 8″ Splash and 16″ metal crash.

Guess what kit I have?

Ok, Sonor Force 2000 6 piece kit from the early 90’s, pearl/legend free floating snare in steel or wood, Pearl Chad smith signature snare, Remo piccolo snare, pearl drum rack and Sabian AA/AAX cymbals, fifteen of them to use in various set ups.

All sitting in the corner of the loft room as I haven’t played for a bit 😥

But my nephew is learning to play Drums at a great place in West London, and they want me to help choose an electronic kit for him. 😈

Middlesex. But by the time I was born it had been subsumed into Greater London.

So many yorkshire’ists around here, all with an over inflated sense of importance, which I suppose is fair enough when you consider no one else gives a monkeys about that place. 😉

By comparison, the CTC doesn’t appear to be interested.

That could have a point seeing as the CTC have just got shot of their MTB representative.

MTB has no UK-wide voice,

It could have done with IMBA UK, but mtb’ers (not all I might add) have been brought up on the understanding the mountain biking was somehow rebellious, and belonging to an organisation that could have represented our interests would have been a bit lame.

Unfortunately, the language of mountain biking still believes that being “out there man” is the only way to be.

There is plenty of cycle sport going on in London, and plenty of interesting places to ride. Just none of it is gnarly MTB riding. If I still lived there, I’d be out on a cross bike or hardtail exploring riverside paths, canals, bits of dockland, reservoirs, parks etc*

Born in London, but moved to the south western burbs, plenty of midweek riding with a couple of royal parks, the river, canals and lots of local woods, weekend Surrey hills/Tunnel hill, and Swinley before they ruined it, lot’s of road riding if you are into that sort of thing(I’m not), and if I feeling energetic, I can ride from home to North downs/Surrey hills 3/4 off road. It’s a 40mile round trip though. 😯

I like London, I like busy.

Some decent local beer and yah boo sucks to you Binners. 😉

Got two hardtails and one FS. Started off on a HT, bought an FS and rode that for four years, stripped it down and built another HT. I rebuilt the FS this year and rode it about half a dozen times, it’s now in storage until next spring…I may ride it a bit then.

Also, I find around 5% of RCD’s are not reliable. How often do you press the test button on your RCDs at home? Should be done every 3 months, but I’d say 90% of people never do it. It is worthwhile doing it, as the contacts sometimes stick, and tripping them clears this, thus giving continued safe use.

This. In spades.

I remember the local police station cranking up the air raid warning klaxon thingy on top of the police station as a test. Still a haunting sound. The police station is now a pub. The klaxon long gone.

Would have been over pretty quickly as we lived pretty near to a BAE/Hawker factory cranking out Harriers, which supposedly had a Rusky nuke dedicated to it’s destruction.

I don’t know about you, but these days do seem a bit less certain as it may well be a group of individuals and not a state that sets the bomb off, so no MAD.

Suggest you find another electrician (hate the term sparky) as this one is talking out of his arse.

I’d suggest otherwise. What you alluded to about LED’s tolerating being run from any source, in practice it’s different.

Keep it simple, remove any transformer/driver, less things to go wrong, install GU10 holders and leads, get a QUALITY LED gu10 bulb and look forward to many years of low cost lighting.
