    Space Monkey.

Throwing a fried egg in with your flatbread bacon butty is a genius move.

i’m finding i actually dislike the off day because i end up feeling bloated and slow

I know what you mean. I don’t get the bloated thing, I guess thats just volume of food consumed, but it does make me feel lethargic.

Strange really as I would have expected that with all the quick sugar consumed during the Day off.
It would send me round the place, like on a wall of death thing, but it has the opposite effect in that it seems to slow me down.

    How weird is that ?.

Smokin the whole place up when I made flatbreads is an issue for me too.

Like you TSY, I’m thinking I’ve got too much flame on.

    CK.

I’m currently on the road which means I don’t even get home every night of the week.
I just spend some hours in the kitchen, over a weekend, cooking up stuff to bring with me and I’m working anything between 10 to 13 hours a day.

If anyone was ever shackled to the rat race. Its me.

    rear cassette question

    I’ve a genuine Q.

Why do we call it a rear cassette ?.

Its not as if we have front cassettes, to the best of my knowledge anyway.

Agree with iDave, but would add.

Stay hydrated, you may not feel like eating much, but sticking to low GI wouldn’t harm your recovery, I’d of thought.

If your symptoms persist, see your doctor.

They’ll never get the hang of that morris dancing, malarkey. Carrying on like that.

And I don’t think a kick there is actually iDiet compliant. I mean, its not a way to lose weight, is it.

nearly all of the 300 died.

Nothing to do with their diet though, more to do with the huge persian army they were fighting, IIRC.

Oh, and there were a few more than 300 at Thermopylae

I’m sure I saw a purple monkey drummer near the top of the col de faucile

Surely that would be animal cruelty ?. How much will someone there be fined for drumming monkeys ?.

    maybe I was hallucinating.

Is that the next level on the iDiet ?. After long and loyal observance of the rules.
    One hallucinates, on demand.

Thats interesting. I did muse way back on page…well some time earlier on this thread. What would be the outcome of including an egg or two.

    Good Effort, thanks.

    Matt.

Just looking around, it would seem that arrowroot is a little high on the GI index.

You could argue that as you usually use so little of it in a recipe, it may be permissible, but I’ve not enough iDiet knwoledge to give a definative ruling.

Furthemore, I think we’re moving away from giving food a green light or a red light on an individual food item basis, here.

Therefore letting people enjoy the discovery of what is low GI, for themselves and hoping that they want to share something.

When considering new foods and ingredients, I have always focused on the GI rating with an emphasis on it being low GI.
    Thats my Rule of thumb.

Good luck with the whole thing though.

    OJ.

I have known this result, been at the stage you describe.

This indicates to me that eating the iDave way means I maintain a certain body weight.
(I have stopped to consider how much heavier I might have been by now, had I not been doing this low GI thing. I checked recently and to one degree or another, I have been iDave diet for nearly a year now 8O )

Now, reluctantly, I may have to consider relying on exercise to get to a lower weight, but then I should be able to maintain that weight much more easily through diet.

Does that make any sense ?.

    iDave.
When do you expect to return to the UK ?.

Never had a home-made chilli that was as good as the Discovery jar either mind – despite their creators exhortations otherwise

    You are right Molgrips.

    I’m just fekkin witcha ;-)

But I am reasonably anti dinner from a jar.

I prefer and 95% of the time make, most of my meals from the basic ingredients and spices.
Sundried tom paste is about as from the jar as it gets for me, although I have been using the tetra packs of beans lately as I work away all week.
Obviously spices, liquids, oils and vinegars are made for me.

@ solo, i’ll let you know what its like after the weekend

Its a twist on a Hairy Bikers recipe, not TSY.
    ;-)

I can post a method if its required, there is a sequence to what goes in during the cooking.

Also, I use a 300g bag of quorn mince, although I think you can get 500g bags now.

The listed recipe makes quiet a lot of chilli too, good for freezing. So use a big pot.

    I suspect it hasn’t

I’d be amazed to find a jar on a super market shelf that doesn’t contain sugar.
Sugar is the hook that all the food manufs will use to own you.

To be fair, I’ve never managed to concoct my own spice recipe that comes close to the Discovery chilli from a jar…..

Its probably got sugar in it.

Try my recipe, it’ll taste good if for no other reason than you made it.

goes off to look at recipes

    No need.

    The enlightened Chilli.

    Olive Oil
2 medium sized white onions – chopped
500g of minced beef, I use Quorn instead.
    1-2 Peppers – chopped
    4-6 cloves Garlic – crushed – fine
    2 red chillies
    2 green chillies
1 x 380g pack of Chick peas, drained and washed
1 x 380g pack of Cannellini beans, drained and washed
1 x 380g pack of red kidney beans, drained and washed
    2 x 400g tins of chopped Toms
1 x tablespoon of sundried tomato paste.
If you can’t source this, then tom puree
    2 teaspoons hot paprika
    1 teaspoon ground cumin
    1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of ground black pepper – Optional
    2-3 bay leaves
    Tabasco souce to taste.
    1 glass red wine.

My chilli is better than yours…. *runs*

wanders in… wonders why everyone is actually talking about diets

The clue is in the title……… ;-)

Chilli’s never been an issue for me – just wang three or four extra tins of random legumes in it and eat from a bowl. Nom – no rice required.

Amen dude !, Chilli’s a good one for me too, esp now that I’ve dumped the pack mixes for the spices and just add my own. Tastes better too.
Chik P’s, red kidney beans and cannellini beans go into my chilli.

Rice with your chilli is so harvester.

Its gram flour flatbreads with Chilli, for me

We have a freezer full of chilli, curry etc. I’ll engage brain next time. Still cheat day tomorrow! 4 weeks in on Monday and just over half a stone gone, no exercise either through injury

Spud, like you, my freezer has a fair few tubs of homemade chilli and ragu, stored within.
    It is goooooood.
    8)

Good effort on losing the 1/2 stone just through changing what you eat.

Weight control through diet alone, is exactly what I’ve been trying to achieve. Its working pretty well too.
I feel I eat well, I don’t miss meals or feel hungry, and don’t suffer lack of energy. Can’t really see a down side to this, as being able to eat crap and booze each and every day just wouldn’t mean anything anymore.

Ok, I’ve just google’d the quorn thingy and found this:

beans, lentils and other legumes all among the lowest GI foods.Quorn is also a great meat substitute with no GI as it has almost no carbohydrate

So, unless someone else knows more than me *highly likely*
    I’d guess quorn is in.

    GTOS.

I make a quorn based chilli, I’ve never used / eaten quinoa. Well, not to the best of my knowledge.
