Secondly will I look like a prize tool wearing them?!

    No, they’re nice looking jerseys.

Wear whatever the bloody hell you like.

You need to find someone who can tell you exactly what is causing it, why, and how to correct it.

    This.

I found a lot of calf and achilles stretching help a lot.

    And this.

Ride whatever you have, enjoy it and don’t worry about what everyone else says or does.

When you get to the top of the climb you’ll be amazed at the different shapes, sizes and values of bikes getting chucked down the hill. Every single one of them will have someone sitting on them grinning.

Just to give you some context i’ve never felt out of my depth on my full on XC 100mm hardtail 29er. As long as the brakes work well and your tyres are half decent you’ll be fine.

    It’s just riding after all.

Rode the Marin saturday for the first time in a fair few months and it is a great trail, but very old fashioned as in it has no tabletops, skills areas, cafe or any facilities!

How on earth did we ever manage to have a good ride before all of those apeared in the countryside!

What about bedding in pads or starting a helmet debate? Haven’t had a good one of those since he that cannot be mentioned vanished.

Hope someone would do the same for me. Feels good to be nice.

    I’ve done this before.

Found a phone on the beach. Called Mum and once she had calmed down thinking her Daughter was in trouble gave me an address to send it to. Couple of weeks later got a thank you letter with some gift vouchers.

Maybe i’m a bit naive but it never even crossed my mind to do anything else. Though some of the ideas above made me chuckle!

If someone suggested rocket rons for riding in the lakes I would ask them if they are taking the ####.

    My thoughts exactly.

it’s mainly the solicitors who do the work

Find a good one, do your research and it will work out just fine.

One less person to deal with always makes things easier.

    Good luck.

I went to the alps for the first time last year I got pretty bad hand cramps.

Think this might have something to do with it.

Ride more rough trails, get in the gym to strengthen your upper body and MTFU.

Or just buy some new grips as we all know spending money on your bike makes you betterer!

Climbing. I love it. You feel the pain creeping up on you. You look up and see the road steepens and the pain is there, all over your thighs. Caressing and stabbing them. Reminding you of those winter rides you missed because it was too cold or too wet or too windy. Reminding you that you’re weak. But that spurs you on. You dig deeper, gulp the air, push the pedals harder and you accelerate. The road slackens and you gather your breath.

    Post of the year!

People who think mountainbiking is only about going downhill, suspension and adjustable seatposts. Usually found in the cafe complaining that their gears don’t go low enough.

Though I quickly remember we didn’t all start riding when trail centers and mass marketing existed and let it slide.

They don’t watch film or any western media related stuff.

Sure they could play one of the low budget video games instead.

Failing that just sit down and be quiet.

No real need for behaviour like that. Sit down, be quiet and watch a film like everyone else.

I’ve looked at used S4, RS4, 3.0 A6 and 530/535…but the big issue is warranty. All within my price range (ie same price or less than leasing new) are outside of manufacturers warranty. So when you factor in an insured warranty the price rockets for cars like that.

    A very valid point.

A6 and Golf R were of particular note because there are some seriously cheap (under £300 per month) leasing deals on.

That’s a seriously good deal. Any catches you’re aware of?

    Great news!

Far to many scrotes are stealing bikes across the country. So it always makes me smile when they’re returned to their rightful owners. Especially bikes which can’t easily be replaced such as yours.

Does it have to be a new car?

If not have you looked at the RS4? Bonkers fast, room for your kit and a good one will leave you plenty of change from the £30k the Golf costs you. If you can find a decent example and get a private warranty you’ll have your cake and eat it.

If not, get the golf and a roof rack.

That’s like saying bread is just bread.

No it’s not. Though please carry on buying the expensive stuff if it makes you feel happy 😉

    100g!! bloody hell

I honestly thought that was a standard sized portion that any keen sportsman would have. I’m starting to feel very insecure about my eating habits now.

100g is a bit much no?

No, i’m quite a big chap so need more than the average amount of calories in the morning!

    😀

incidentally is there a difference in the oats you buy, what are the best to buy?

Whatever’s cheapest. It’s just oats after all.

100g in a bowl, semi skimmer milk, 2 mins max power in the microwave and then add some blue berries.

The next big innovation will be riders rather than equipment. The big bike companies have realized that if riders get fitter and try much harder then they won’t need any more utterly pointless new innovations that make no difference whatsoever.

However will the bike industry cope if everyone begins training instead posting on here? Then starts riding £500 steel hardtails just as fast as £5000 carbon ego chariots when they realise it’s legs not linkage position that make the difference.

Go for a ride, get them wet and muddy. They’ll soon be working just fine again after a couple of hard stops.

Seems the only time i have problems with my brakes is when i clean them with anything more than a squirt of the hose.

Hardtails- anyone gone from 180 disc to 160 and regret it?

I’ve always had 160mm discs and never had a problem. Though i can’t see coming down from 180mm making much difference. Just ride what you’ve got and get used to them.

Use one finger, don’t brake as hard and move your weight around to increase traction on the rear wheel*.

*That will be £100 please 😉
