    @binners

You are one of the few people talking sense in here. Keep up the good work.

Maybe no one in management feels they can influence the root cause

Unfortunately this is probably the case. I know that’s the reality in local government where a couple of my friends are managers.

The best way to tackle extremism is to kill more people, obviously.

Being good is overrated, having fun is where it’s at

    Second that.

Unless you’re getting paid to ride or hoping to in the future just enjoy what you have now. Sure, push yourself to improve but remember one day you won’t be able to do what you do now. So take a step back and enjoy it.

Because the standard STW advice is “lose some weight and get a coach”

Sounds quite logical advice to be fair. Only a complete PWB would think recommending that as daft or potentially relationship ending.

why not encourage them to upgrade, either through nice pressies or through sound purchasing advice?

Perhaps gentle motivation with sound training advice and structure would be more suitable?

There appears to be something going really wrong when people think this is a good way to spend money. No matter where or how they got it.

Call me a philistine but as long as a place of education is functional and full of motivated and qualified teachers/lecturers that’s all that matters.

I’d try Coed-y-Brenin as there is a nice range of progressively more challenging routes to try. From blues with minimal climbing and smooth bermed descents, through to red/black trails with long climbs and rocky singletrack. All with the bonus of a decent cafe, bike wash and showers for afterwards.

I’ve been there many times with mixed groups and everyone always has a great day out.

Zee would be my choice for an AM bike

For religious reasons I have to ride my bike wearing nothing but body paint and a pickled onion on a length of string. Mainly natural trails for me.

You’re lucky. My religion doesn’t even allow pickled onions, or paint.

A couple more weeks and you’ll have enough speed, confidence and forward planning to avoid getting stuck on all but the very worst flat sections. I know plenty of people who both ski and board and all of them without a shadow of a doubt would say that ultimately boarding is more fun and playful. There’s simply nothing like the fluid floaty nature of powder turns on a snowboard.

    Spot on.

Once you get to a level where you can pop from piste to powder, turn quickly and precisely the whole mountain really opens up for you.

Though if you want to go exploring away from the crowds with your GF then it sounds like Skiing is the way to go. Do remember to be competent enough to undertake big off piste tours can take quite a lot of snow time.

Best bet would be to do a season and get yourself to a decent level at both!

Love is just a hormonal imbalance. Nothing more, nothing less.

    Easy test is this:

Do you still find her the “prettiest girl in the world” and want to hug her all night after you’ve had your wicked way with her?

    No? Walk away

    Yes? Marry her

Now stop thinking so much old boy and get a few pictures posted so we can all make our (your) mind up.

    IKEA – Just say no

I currently have a Saab 9-3 turbo which is brilliant fun and I love but the mrs is scared of it (mostly my fault)

to be honest on the Isle of Wight you’ll have a job ragging the arse off anything, as you’re stuck behind coaches and pensioners most of the time

What on earth are you doing to scare her in the car then?

What would you do and what would you pay for it?

Test drive it very thoroughly and offer £1800 cash if nothing obvious comes up.

Walk away if you have any doubts whatsoever.

Make sure you get the 3.2L S version otherwise all the folk in half decent modern diesel rep wagons will been looming large in your rear view mirror. While still getting +40mpg.

Yes, you can get cheaper brighter lights with DIY/Ebay/imports (which i’ve done) but for pure toughness, reliability and faff free usage Exposure lights are the way to go.

Get the biggest you can afford and you’ll never look back. Apart from to check for boogie men/women following you in the woods!

A pack of four Marks and Spencer underpants… £18!!!

£4.50 per pant is pretty good value as my last set lasted 2 years. With washing and everything.

Only granddads buy undies in M&S anyway

I’m a granddad? I’m so happy, though at the same time slightly confused as i don’t even have a family.

Contact the person direct and arrange for them to rent your flat. No agency fees and if questioned you say ‘where was the offer’?

    This.

“Withdrawal: a fee of £50 will be charged in the event of an instruction being terminated once marketing has commenced”

    A small price to pay.

    Well put nedrapier

I really can’t stand the attitude that the insurance company will sort it out. More incidents like this and the slightly more extreme event in The Trevor should hopefully (in my optimistic and naive opinion) make a few people think twice in future.
