I'm hoping that in 2011, there will be a law that bans outright all Americanisms from the English language!

Gonna being THE prime candidate for the initial cull.

How do you know the OP isn't actually American him/herself? 😉

Buy a house and rent it out, as people will always want shelter. You can always sell it if everything goes wrong.

Don't bother with shares/investments as there are to many variables, with lots of other peoples interests tied into them.

On the whole people who own and "fly" hot air ballons are very rich. This helps, like most things in life really.

Are you going to race? Or just ride a bike on road that happens to have thin tyres and funny bars?

If the latter just use the same pedals you have on your MTB to save hassle.

DO NOT GO THROUGH THE CSA

I repeat – DO NOT GO THROUGH THE CSA

If possible arrange something with the Mother. They are an incompetent bureaucratic machine, once they have so much as your name there is NO escape. You will have payments missed/forgotten and then clamed for later. You will get threatening letters, aggressive phone calls. You WILL be treated as the bad guy.

Ignore this warning at your peril

If it really does go the splitting up/moving out route, try and talk and come to some agreement with her. It will work out far better for everyone in the long term.

Good luck, it's never going to be fun.

Keep your head up and ride your bike. It helps.

That was sarcasm mate. Like I say, I grew up in the country, and I don't mean a posh village in the home counties, I mean where land rovers are 30 years old and held together with bits of wood and baler twine and have a sheep in the back instead of Pandora and Zachary and a frigging bugaboo pushchair.

    😆

I do live in the "home counties" and that is pretty much bang on. Quite a few 2010 plate Defenders are being driven around that have cleaner paintwork than most BMW's 🙄

I know this is really obvious but I don't think the intended audience for that article includes the anally retentive work-shy STW massiv.

    Peabrain,

When you use it's with an apostrophe, it's to indicate a missing letter.

The possessive is its: shoot its brains out with a gun, for example.

Apostrophising the possessive its is like apostrophising his or hers.

And if you wrote it is her's, or it was hi's, you would look like a bloody peabrain.

    😆

That’s how you win an argument!

As for supplies, common sense really, water, some proper food and some jelly babies or similar and an emergency energy gel should you bonk, but whatever you do don't go loaded up like a Sherpa you won't appreciate the extra weight. (some people I see at Afan look like they are going exploring for a fortnight)

    😆

I know exactly what your talking about, seen some seriously big bags going up the sheep track. Gore-Tex jackets, "riding trousers" and the compulsory camelback HAWG bursting at the seams!

Skyline is a two bottle and a Malt loaf ride. A great ride at that, have some of you forgotten how to pedal? 😉

I've never had any trouble with Hitec Silver Shadows, there light, cheap and have a tough flat sole so your foot has a consistent platform to push off/land on. As long as you build up slow and let your stabilizers develop, you should have no problems. Can't see why you need to spend £80+ on trainers that effectively stop your foot doing what it was designed to do.

IIRC the scheme is under some scrutiny due to this kind of abuse. So, to answer your question…I give a ****. The more bad press or abuse the scheme gets, the more unlikely it is that other employers will have the opportunity to take it on, which means that people like me (who actually cycle to work) don't get to benefit from the scheme.
