    that one's usually quite easy

I know, just not after the biblical amount of rain we had the night before. Got to give these things a go though haven't you. What's the worst that can happen?

Did get a few funny looks from the foot bridge. Had to hang onto the back wheel while dragging myself up the rocky sunken road on the northern side.

    Good times!

Reminds me when i thought it would be a good idea to ride the Ford just south of Little Langdale.

Nearly lost the bike that day!

    is that a footpath?

    Silly question!

Been looking at the map and it all seems a bit devoid of Prows and do they really hang you if you stray of a fire road

    Yes

Depends if your frame likes bigger posts or not, is it dirty? 😉

Saw that earlier, and I do want one, but surely they're not legal in the UK? I would have thought they'd be considered a 'firearm', no?

    Your probably right 🙁

Though now we have seen them, I'm sure someone on here will get medieval with a drill and some brass!

And a ready supply of gunpowder comes from?

    No idea about that sir…

Typical modern gunpowder consists of charcoal, saltpeter, and sulfur in a 6:1:1 or 6:1.2:0.8 ratio

    POP!

    Shimano.

Cheap, strong and reliable. Not that light but who cares when there covered in mud.

Never had a pair last less than a year of commuting and proper riding.

it's a blood flow problem so lets think about just leaving it, would you leave it if you fingers went numb? doubt it.

    Relax dear 😆

Just take it. I've been riding for years and a bit of numb willy never did me any harm.

Makes post ride waving some what tricky though 😉

You can get lighter, but then lighter wheels can get a bit noodly on climbs/corners.

Anything less than 1500 is for race wheels for 9stone whippets

Quiet, don't tell the marketing teams. There sales to over weight sportive and mountainbike riders will plummet 😉

Hope hubs with Mavic or DT rims will be great, light strong and easy to fix. Get them hand made by someone decent using butted spokes from DT. Don't be tempted with alloy nipples as they are not always that reliable, brass are a better choice and will last forever.

Stick on some light weight racing tyres from Continental or Michelin and you will feel like a boy again 😀

Depends very much on the country, center and rider perception.

More information required and someone will be along to explain shortly.

T-Shirts and decent bottles are good.

I've still got my Sigg from the 2000 MM 24hrs and I only really wear T-shirts I've earned from riding miles while suffering a lot!

Don't ride bikes – They are expensive, break you both physically and mentally. Plus they make your wife leave.

I'm happy being broke, single and scared 😀

Worst is that I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering and it is quite unbelievable how people talk down to you and are incredibly patronising just because you work in retail. I work my arse off running around trying to serve everyone at once and it's just completely burned me out.

Welcome to the world of work sonny 😉

Enjoy the dusty (apart from the rain this afternoon) trails while they last!

It is possible but will extend your ride quite a bit. Have a look on this map. Just to the west of the A1(M) there is a tiny village called Norton Green. Follow the cycle paths under the motorway too here, after that get yourself to Langley on the B656. From there use your OS Map to navigate to Mardley Heath, which is quite easy to link up with a few lanes and bridleways.

I’m leaving the rest up to you as it’s my summer commute and enjoy having it to myself 😉

Like the rest of us Herts riders just get out there and explore, as there are many more trails than you first realise.

    Enjoy 😀

I used to get that noise to, a very faint whistle/squeak. It just stopped one day and never came back. It's a Punto, relax!

I would also follow all of the above advice, just for comedy value. Oh, take some pictures if you do, I’m sure they would go down well on the Punto owners website 😉

Can't see that happening. The Taliban know that they don't need to come to the table – we don't have any leverage over them. The Afghans are used to the "long game". Why go for a compromised negotiated outcome when you can just sit tight and outlast your opponent?

Good point and pretty much exactly what happened every time before this latest effort. Obviously the “Taliban” have had different names in the past. Usually to try and give the people back home a group to focus on.

When all you are fighting is a belief, you would have to be a fool to think you could defeat it with a gun.

Some people are seriously short on their history

Unfortunately it’s usually the people making big decisions 😥

muscle is heavy, you really want to just be skin and bone!

Quiet, don't tell anyone the secret. How on earth will the bike companies sell there machines with "goat like climbing ability" if that cheeky little fact gets out!

    Any more climbing advice?

Climbs lots and loose weight until you are ripped with a six pack. Spending money on your bike before this is futile 😉

Perhaps try a bit of shorter training without food to get used to it. I've managed to do a few 60+ milers without any food, just drinking (water or squash). Then hopefully if you eat as you go you will have tons of energy..

Why not push the boat out and ride without water as well? Your body will get used to it eventually and you'll be able to ride all day without a drop 😉

Yes you can, especially after a good ride 😀
