Please, feel free to enlighten me sofatester

The OP wants to be double hard masochistic luddite. Riding anything else apart from the most uncomfortable, least efficient bike would be a form of self defeat.

Much like SingleSpeeders, only without the stylish goatee.

Shame, i was looking forward to throwing some insults around as well.

Blimey you went for it back there sir!

When you’re 70 you’ll be that beardy bloke in the mucky looking house who doesn’t give footballs back to kids.

That actually made me cough up a bit of tea, thank you.

    😀

    TheBrick and Pook.

Was all that aimed at me? If so I am deeply honored you took the time to attempt to insult me. Though I also have to point you to the fact that i was actually having a little pook (see what i did there) at our distinguished Captain.

Either way, isn’t the Internet great!

    I know the feeling.

I also know it’s never worth commenting, just ride on. Karma will catch up with him and his dog. Well it would have, had you not commented. A threat of violence over something so trivial is plain silly. Even if your not a keyboard commando and have the ability to back it up, getting all hot and bothered about this kind of thing is a waste of time.

Put the kettle on and relax 😀

    “Yes, I know. It’s silly isn’t it?”

We should make this the default STW answer for walkers who get “funny”.

Are you aware of the phenomenom known as “punctuation”?

Give the lad(?) a break Captain. There are at least three full stops and four commas in there. I could even have a sip of tea between each sentence.

How do you spell “phenomenon” by the way? 😉

I don’t get this, can anyone explain it to me?

We drive for hours to ride down hills on a bike.

They wait for hours to buy a piece of technology.

Both cost money. Both seem strange to outsiders. Both have the same end result:

A short period of happiness for the user.

Isn’t the rather glaringly obvious answer here to put some suspension forks on the front, or have I missed something?

    Yes, i think you have.

    I know, just kidding.

What kind of distance would you be willing to ride to the car park on the A44 next to some great trails? As you could easily find some nice hotels and B&Bs in Aberystwyth. Or even link up the “Mach” trails from Machynlleth?

    You mean car park?

If I’m paying £100 and up for a rear mech anything on a bike, it better be rebuildable and you better have all the replacement parts available for it too.

    If only that where true.

right, I don’t have rose-tinted specs like some of you…
you might remember those occasional bits of kit that lasted for ever, but how much stuff was there which exploded into its constituent parts at the mere sight of a twig?
stuff now is much more advanced, more complex and weighs less – stuff tends to wear out rather than break like it used to and it tends to be the consumable parts like bearings and bushings.
and square taper BBs and cranks were the only things I used to break – cranks seizing to the axle, axles breaking, the connection between the axle and the cranks wearing or becoming damaged and writing off the cranks and they’re not nearly as stiff as external BBs.
gears never used to work, chains would snap… suspension would seize

I’ve got an old STX mech in the garage

I used to have STX-RC so there!

It was brilliant and shiny. I still remember seeing the reflection of the chainrings on the road as i span along.

Never remember having to change anything either, apart from a couple of brake blocks and cables after a winter (summer) of riding.

Been on a plane many times with my bike (lightweight carbon roadie) with no dramas at all. Just pack it well and off you go.

If there is 2+ travelling together then drive. It’s a trip of around 550miles which is doable in a day with drivers taking 3 hours shifts.

You can then take more gear and have the flexibility of leaving when you want, plus having transport on resort for exploring will be a bonus.

If i lived on mainland europe i’d never get in a plane.

Brilliant, loving the ricochet off the car!

Reminded me of when some chums used to half bury rockets and air bombs upside down in fields. You soon realized why they have the “stand at least 20 meters away when lit” warnings on the big ones!

    POP!

My top tip is to use a paper hole punch and punch a series of holes down the inside of the sleeves, all the way from armpit to wrist. There are few more unpleasant sensations than lukewarm sweat running down the inside of a jackets sleeves and wetting your gloves.

While your at it crikey can you get me a long weight and a glass hammer?

I’d be more worried about the things you can see on YouTube, than a few naked ladies doing things. Just type “terrorists killed” or “Street fighting” into the site for some interesting examples.

Though i have heard good things about the link Samuri posted above.

If your in the black and the bills are paid and there’s food in the cupboards

    never use credit

There is a difference between something that’s expensive, and something that costs a lot

A “steady” 60 mile road ride with the club, which ended up with eight fully grown men spread over miles of English countryside; each in various sized hurt lockers. Fortunately 3 of us managed to find the keys and escape. In what was probably the slowest through and off imaginable!

Bacon and egg time now 😀

In a car scene the camera showing the speedo creeping up. Usually to around 75mph.

Firing more rounds than there gun can hold in a standard mag.

Only incredibly fit and sexy people being in the film.

Getting shot and not falling over screaming for there mother.

    The list goes on…

    Somewhere in Snowdonia/north Wales?

You’ve got a couple of trail centers, loads of natural stuff, outdoor pursuits centers, good pubs and accomodation.

Should be perfect, plus no midges!
