This is my local patch and know that stretch of road well.

The overtaking driver is an idiot, for the above reasons and more.

    – Crest of the next hill is blind with a farm entrance

    – In less than one kilometer it goes through a village at 30mph

    – The car ahead will slow them down again anyway!

Not that any of these things usual matter to someone making progress.

Is this the casual racism thread?

Yorkshireman takes his cat to the vet after inadvertently kicking it while chasing a stray whippet.

Yorkshireman – “Ayup lad, I need to talk to thee about me cat”
Vet – “Is it a tom?”
Yorkshireman – “Nay, I’ve browt it with me”

    did it ruin your life?

If by ruin you mean change, then yes.

Keep riding and doing the things you enjoy wherever possible. Even if the duration and frequency is reduced it will still help.

(this advice is after witnessing friends keep/lose it)

Awful eroded mess with no flow

That’s what I thought. Dull trails, don’t bother going.

    Doesn’t even have a cafe/jetwash/proper toilets/gift shop/uplift/crowds/egos/expensive parking

I’ve been using the Griffin Survivor after entering the world of smartphones last year. It’s quite expensive, though when you think it’s protecting >£400 worth of technology from the elements and cack handed users it’s pretty good value.

I use it on my bars out riding, for fell runs and general phone duties. Along with being in my commuter bag in all weathers. None of the knocks it’s taken have even scratched the case, let along damaged the phone. I should say it’s not 100% waterproof so won’t really help against any Granddaughter washing incidents, though it’s never let any moisture in when i’ve been caught in a shower out in the hills.

It also has a grippy rubber cover holding it all together so using it with gloves or wet hands means you’re less likely to drop it. Also, the port covers are very tough so you’d have to try pretty hard to snap them off.

As a product i’d give it 8/10 for its intended use.

Hitting the M25 at rush hour with a plane to catch?

I’d be going down the night before.

Though if not possible follow your wife’s advice and be on the road at 0500hrs. If you turn up early just have a relaxing breakfast and read the paper.

    Pay off debts first

    This.

Then take a few nice trips to places you’ve always wanted to visit.

Whatever is left after that can be put towards something dull and sensible.

Crossfit – How to perform good lifts badly

    Front.

Biggest improvement in handling I’ve noticed is by replacing average road tyres with high performance versions. Braking and steering is night and day, especially in the wet. Having front end grip is the key for that model. Even more so if you have one of the more powerful engines.

It does raise the question of why there are not more e-bike’s razzing round cities.

The £5000 part might be something to do with it. Though i do agree as i’ve only even seen one, which funnily enough was being ridden round the car park of CyB.

riding up to ride down rather than xc

    Quoi?

If you mean just riding, which is presume is what you’re getting at the Elan Valley, Snowdon & Clwyds are worth a look.

Get an OS map and see what happens.

    Not again!

Had something like this happen in the woods near me where i run and ride, though with a slightly different modus operandi. Some very angry soul put a few two foot planks with nails hammered through on the trails. Like above the police got involved after a couple of groups stumbled across them, though fortunately going up the downhill they had been placed on. Nothing even came of it though.

As said above stick fairies are one thing but premeditated traps are quite another. Really don’t understand the thought process behind this kind of behaviour.

I’ve been running with them for a few years now, using both on and off road versions. Once you get into the mid/fore foot striking they are excellent. Though while making the transition your calves will take a pounding. Plenty of stretching and foam rolling will be needed, along with leaving your ego behind for the first few months while your ankle stabilizers strengthen.

Once you get used to it you’ll wonder how you ever thumped along on your heels for so long!

    Do it!

I had a 330ci of that era with nearly 200k on the clock and it was brilliant. Pulled like a train and was really confortable on long trips. Just make sure all the obvious bits are fine so you don’t have any avoidable expense straight away. After that it’s just like any other car when it comes to maintenance.

As above just go for SLX

Not sure what kind of riding you do. Though for general trail center thrashing and home counties mincing they’re more than enough.

If it makes any difference I am quite a big lad (89kgs) but am trying to lose some weight!

I’d be looking there to start with, unless you’ve got <10% body fat.

If you want to spend money a decent set of handmade wheels and light(ish) tyres would make a noticeable difference. Then use the rest on some short travel air forks. Though you’ll probably have to go second hand to make it worth your while.
