I picked up a LX for my winter trainer from CRC. Don’t know if there’s much performance difference with SLX but personally I think the LX looks better. Forty quid including BB

There is no flex in my Ti post at all in 31.6, its pretty harsh. If wanted a bit of comfort I’d look to carbon. If you can stomach the price what about that Canyon/ Cannondale flexing post

At 5.11 probably 17.5″ though if your long in the body you might want to size up.

In true STW fashion I’ve never ridden one but I believe they ride nicely enough and look good for that money but you might want to do some more research as I think there may have been some issues with them snapping around the seat tube

Ok thanks will do cheers for the reply.

On a related note I was looking at a cheapish Elite Parbolic set set on CRC. Any other starter rollers to consider? I won’t be spending hours on them. Probabbly half our sessions two or tree times a week while the wife watches Corie.

I had the old Cove G Spot and that pedalled fine. As well as any FSR anyway. Performance will be down to the shock much like most bikes that rely on a platform to control bob.

Smallish independant LBS will be about a 30% average across the brands on bikes. Thats based on distributor RRP NOT what you knock them down too, so basicly the best part of sod all considering the amount they have to buy in each season just to be able to hold a brand. You can see why so many fail and why they have to charge a “fair” fee for repairs to survive.

When I read the op’s first post I immediately thought of Thomas’s in Colchester that’s a very accurate description of how they used to be!
They’ve been notorious in the area for years for that attitude so I think it’s fair to say although yes there are a few bad customers out there, they can’t all be that bad.
A big bill to go with the first “free” gear tweaking service after you bought a bike used to be one of their favourites. A new bottom bracket always seemed to be needed.
I heard first hand of quite a few people walking out because of their condescending attitude and a surprising number of people who admitted to coming close to walloping the owner. Quite a rare talent for customer PR that!
Of course in the pursuit of internet forum kangeroo court fairness that was when I was involved with the trade 6 years ago so they might be totally different now

This all applies to England but if its rateable would depend on what the valuation office have decided when they assessed the premises. If it’s just a farmer renting out his barn now and again I suppose there’s a good chance that the rating office doesn’t even know. Farms aren’t really my area but I would imagine in that scenario the rates would be covered for what he pays overall for the farm so he could just charge you a bit of rent for cash perhaps and no one’s any wiser. If its set up as an business i.e as a rental investment of small barn/business units then they would have been assessed as such and separate rates would apply, but again depending how the landlord operates their short lets may they may just charge an all in rent.

I mentioned the 6 week rents as all landlords have to pay empty rates on their commercial premises now at full payable value. They get 6 months grace on industrial to try and find a new tenant but that’s it. If however the unit becomes let for a minimum of 6 weeks, with a new tenant picking up the rates in that time, their 6 month grace period is reset from the date of that vacation. I have heard, urrr hum… A canny landlord may hence be willing to do a good deal on a six week let i.e peppercorn rent if you pick up the rates in that time.

Depends on the local authority and the rateable value of the unit you find.

The local authority here is currently offering rates free if it’s your only premises and under the £12,000 rating threshold. That will probably change next April but I think all councils offer small business rate relief of up to 50% of the rates payable for single business premises.

Alternatively you may well find a friendly landlord who will do a good deal on a short let if you offer pick up the rates. You only have to pay them for 6 weeks and then the landlords rate free allowance will reset to 6 months from the unit becoming vacant. Could be win win if you can also claim rate relief as mentioned above.

Try ear plugs when you sleep.
I have no medical knowledge of night terrors other than a documentary I saw where they worked out tiny sounds in the night set them off in the guy they were studding. Ear plugs pretty much cured him so it’s worth a shot for a couple of quid

TomB not sure of your budget but look at uniroyal rain sports if they fit your car around £100 each).

I put them on my estate after having yokohoma’s and the feeling of safety in the wet is fantastic. No longer get the touch of nerves when you come across standing water on the motorway, they go through it like its not there and greasy wet bends are no bother at all.

Check with you cars main dealer to see what other size tyres will fit on your rims, it might give you a bit more choice of brands and models you can fit.

On their own tramadol work geat as a pain killer at the time you need them, I just found with them 2 or 3 days latter Id get a 4 day head ache ranging form niggling to full on throw up and want to cut your own head off migrains over the duration.

Ive had to take them for months at time before and only managed that if taken as a cocktail with other medication!

edit ; codine can give you great head aches if you take them for too long as well!

Can you not push against the bars for the leverage required to pop one out.

Perhaps a question for Dr Nic, what bar width for sufficient fart leverage?

The previous owner of our house built a rubber chip play area for the climbing frame and swings in our garden which cats love and disguises cat eggs brilliantly. You really do have to look for them.

Still if junior doesn’t end up blinded by toxoplasmosis he might have a shining career as a mine sweeper ahead of him.

What about training your children to pop into the cat owners garden and do their number 2’s on their patio? You could even cut a handy kid flap in the fence. Neighbour might take a hint on pet responsibility and no poopy nappies for you. Win win situation

I would say so fella. I’d go out and get a few more quotes if I were you.

We had quite a lot of tilling down in our house last year when we refurbed it. The guy who did it was very professional, helpful, did a fantastic job and had a 50 mile trip each way to get to us.

Just did a quick calculation and he worked out at £35 per meter. He supplied all the grout adhesives trims etc and there were several colours of each involved.

When there was a problem with the tiles we supplied he sorted out the problem with where we bought them at no extra cost to his quote. He had to come back extra days because of the fault all with no extra charge.

I thought it sounded like something out of a 60’s western when I heard it!

Of course Id have been more surprised if it was actually good.

Still it could be intentionally rubbish, doesn’t the winning nation have to host the comp the following year, who’d actually want to pay for that misfortune!

I find Conti black chilli flavours to feel faster rolling than just about anything. Supersonic speed kings in 2.3 are very fast, not used race kings but would imagine they’re same.

I don’t think top of the range racinging ralphs and maxi’s crossmarks / aspens are even close. They felt rather dragy in 2.1’s back to back with the speed kings, bc rubber queens feel as fast to me as the maxis / ralphs! Small block 8’s 2.1s aren’t a bad compromise if you want something you can run a bit softer.

Or if you want to go huge (but fairly heavy) WTB weirwolf LT’s are great

I was sort of half joking with 2 little boys earlier (though it sure is bit of a spine tingled at times) but thinking about it Rolf seems to have bit of a tallent with emotional songs. I first saw this one Christmas eve round my man’s house when I was a kid. She sadly died late last year and this thread popping up and seeing her house go on the market today made me remeber this song.

Dam you Rolf you nearly got me this time!

The old boy croaked just after Rolf shuts the door at the end in the film!
