Go and see ”The Fall”[/url] if you can, or get it on dvd. It’s fantastic.

It’s funny how religious fundies like Mr Sammy Wilson can have unerring faith in a god, with zero evidence of it’s existence, and zero acceptance of what looks to be a sizable amount of evidence suggesting human contribution to accelerated climate change.

If I’m climbing a trail, and someone approaches from the other direction nearly always at a much higher speed, am I just being obstinate by holding my ground and assuming I have right of way (and the other rider is aware of and adheres to this point of ettiquete), thus putting myself and the other rider who will have more difficulty stopping and making way in danger? It’s not in my mind the point that both riders should be able to control their bike, I agree with that, I just don’t accept that increasing the risk of an accident in this scenario to uphold a debateable point of principle is appropriate.

I also don’t think my drunken rudeness that came through in my posts last night is appropriate either, sorry folks 🙁

“People on the left have a belief that they have the moral high ground.”

Hmm, I’ve yet to hear anyone affiliated to “the right” publicly admit self doubt…perhaps you mean,

“All career politicians present the veneer that they occupy the moral high ground”, which would neutralise the rest of your post, and support Monbiots assertion that the gaping void of ideology and choice is what disenfranchises voters.

Was Nulab ever “left wing” as such anyway?

But Simon, we are supposed to ignore that easy access to the means of aquiring said wealth and prosperity through systems in place in this county does not actually exist! You angry jealous little man you! I for one feel ashamed for not achieving the status in British society that my aquaintances born into the venerable upper middle classes have attained through their own hardwork alone, and not through the options in life provided by daddies cash and contacts, and even moreso, I feel degraded that I have the audacity to be aware of such a phenomenon!

I can understand, although not really relate to the concept that the pleasure of a good climb is the same as the enjoyment of a descent, but aside from that, when it comes to “safety” surely it is easier and safer for the person not carrying speed to put aside their personal challenge when traveling at 1mph, rather than the individual traveleling at say 20-30mph? An inconsiderate asshole coming either direction is no fun, usually there is a compromise dictated by the trail itself, ie it’s pretty **** obvious.

And as regards Repacks quote “If your descending then it’s easier to stop & easier to start, not so easy going uphill.”, that is absolute bollox. Even 30 years ago.

I can agree with this bit though “A bit of common sense & a little less willy waving is required I think []”

I havn’t read all the posts after the ricockulous suggestion that someone going down should stop at speed and give way to the poor soul grinding up. The poor soul grinding up should remind themselves why they are grinding up in the first place.

” Fluoro green bashrings below; black ones above.”

I reckon the yoot may disagree on that one, value wise…(this season)

Anyway, lets hear who has been caught out by the inevitable money grubbing excuse utilising price rises, and why they give a **** that overpriced shite relative to the market availability of “dead stock”, ie last or a few years ago issue product is vastly inferior to the great leaps in technology explored by our friend Shimano over the last twelve months.

My sympathy lies with shops and busineses being shafted by their product suppliers, but when it comes down to it, they are trying to make money, i’m trying to save it.

Couldn’t give a **** really to be honest. It was obvious it was coming. Then CRC had that flood sale, quality sram cassettes were £15, plenty of cheap cranksets too, my new one cost £45 quid. And in six months or maybe at the most a year I honestly believe that lots of shops will have lots of unsold stock. Make them an offer.

    Mikewsmith,

If the schools are teaching that “8/10 (of fires) are started by volunteer firefighters”, i’d be more concerned about the local curriculum than anything else.

Re any mention of Evans…I worked there (between jobs, ahem) briefly last summer. Now I make no claim to be anywhere nearly qualified to set up or fix bikes for anybody, myself included. ..but whenever the mechanic was out for lunch (or late, or off that day), I was despatched downstairs to do any workshop job that would bring the company a profit. Central London mind.

I don’t as yet know anybody that has been personally affected, and I hope it stays that way. A friend of the missus and myself from when we lived in Melbourne, is a volunteer firefighter (and a pilot), so he’s probably been involved with trying to stop the spread. I know some of the areas badly affected well, Kingslake area and down towards Melbourne through the Dandenongs as that’s where I started mountainbiking. I was told Lysterfield park had burned, that makes me sad, though thats nothing at all really of course, just good memories. I can’t imagine what it would have been like for people involved.

When I bought my first “proper” mtb, the missus insisted on the exact same model, assuming I’d done the requisite research and found it the best buy for the money…fair enough, but a tad embarrassing.

She’s had as good as, if not better bikes than mine since…

I have a easton ea50 on my heckler, it gets ridden relatively hard (when I get out of London, but that’s another thread entirely… :?) I wonder though would a stem with four bolts rather than two on the faceplate be noticably stiffer?

I do find it funny that the situation where the bbc breaks with it’s historical record and refuses to support a humanitarian appeal where 1% or the poplulation of a state under siege has been slaughtered in two weeks, an argument on this forum regarding the pros and cons of the obligation under law to support said establishment, and this is what gets people hot under the collar?

    Is this the dark ages?

“The BBC said complaints over its handling of the situation had now reached 3,348, while the number of calls and emails supporting the corporation had doubled from 60 yesterday to 133 today.”

    Hmmm.

    “What’s a Trail Park Tyre?”

Kenda Nevegal probably. An unfashionable option that is specced on a lot of bikes that actually works in a multitude of conditions. Apart from mud, which is rare in the aforementioned environment.

    So gunsmoke it is?

hmm, don’t know about that…I have the “silver”, ie rough polished, bb and headset spacers, quite like them. Having seen the trans red SC colour in the flesh a couple of years back though, i think gunsmoke is what you really want. Matt grey would look a bit “shimano ” in my estimation…

It’s complementing colours we are after here, and I do believe gunsmoke fits the bill. My Heckler is buff naked polished finish, so I think i’m stuck with black myself unless I fancy some major spendage.

The missus has juicys on her bike, and the last time I had to change the pads on the front (so much for feminism, eh?) , the pistons did not want to retract fully at all until gt85ed overnight and more force applied than I had initially thought appropriate.

And then there was the fiddly pad insertion fun. I hate them. Never used them on my own bike though, so I don’t have an opinion on how well they work.

edit…come to think of it. I’ve probably ruined or rotted a seal in the caliper now with the gt85. Good!

Firstly, may I congratulate you on your choice of frame.

Gunsmoke would be my choice, as long as it’s not too “bluey”.

    hahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahhahahhahahahahhahahahhahahha…… 🙂

    I’d imagine that ….smarts…

How about this…judging from the willy waving on the rather crass “how much do you earn? ” thread a couple of weeks ago, a fair proportion of the posters on this site are what I would consider rather high earners. Good for them I say! However, since the £139.50 makes up a much higher percentage of my total net income, than it does for them, I wonder how they would feel paying, say £500 quid per annum, with no choice to opt out? Would a series like Planet Earth be worth that?

I wonder how many of those singing the praises of the bbc, and condemning non-fee payers to a life of shame, would actually pay if it were voluntary? If not, then surely it is just the threat of a fine hanging over their head that compels them to do so? How can they then comment on somebody like the OP who is willing to take that risk?
