I quite often go in the pub ( Robin Hood). In fact, it’s quite likely I’ll be in there this evening….just waiting on a text back from my mate Jon the postie around those parts.
They were thinking about having a board up with people’s (unofficial) climb times.
If I do end up in there this evening, I’ll ask.
ChrisSnSFree MemberThe only fires I’ve seen are (…as you’re looking at the map you linked to)
The road going roughly south from Mytholmroyd through Cragg Vale-
From about half way between Mytholmroyd and Blackstoneedge looking east & also when you get to Blackstonedge, on the opposite side of the road to the Whitehouse pub. ( ie in the direction of the big mast at J22 on the M62)Not aware of anything on the route you’ve planned, but just keep your eyes open.
ChrisSnSFree MemberAfter much playing over the last year or so with LED’s – I’ve had pretty much the same experiences as above:-
Basically –
1. Forget cheap – You WILL be disappointed.
2. Only buy if it has a CRI of 80 or preferably 85 and above – & Preferably one of the ‘major’ brands (Phillips etc)
( Colour Rendering Index) – If no CRI stated, it’s usually best to stay away.
3 Beam angle – Most LED’s seem to be narrower than traditional halogens.
4. Colour Temperature is very important. Halogens are ( as stated in PDW’s posing above). around 2700/2800K.Chris
SnSFree MemberTry something along the lines of…
ping 192.168.x.x -t > filename.txt.
Where x.x is your router address. ….I think there’s also a way to add a time stamp to the log file ?
( …not done any of this stuff in years, so may be a bit rusty)
ChrisSnSFree MemberI find it quite theraputic buzzing myself every couple of weeks ( No.2) – feels clean and tidy.
Never had an issue with mains / rechargable – Both work well enough.
ChrisSnSFree MemberI always crack them in a cup first…..(just the thought of eggshell getting in there’s wrong).
Other than that, fresh eggs, fresh boiling water, slightly swirl the water, gently drop eggs in.
ChrisSnSFree MemberHave you got a dimmer switch fitted ?
Had a couple of led’s blow in the bathroom …loads of research later & I removed the dimmer switch….problem gone.
The led’ s were proper Phillips dimmable units, but the dimmer switch itself was an ordinary dimmer switch & not one specifically designed for led’s
Chris
SnSFree MemberYeah…. Birthdays on the 27th ….but Fat Fridays just so much closer 🙂
Nice find !
ChrisSnSFree Member…and if you think about it, I don’t think its even possible to write a post on STW that everyone gets on with – spelling, grammar, name on bottom, word abbreviation, use of current buzz words / phrases etc etc. Something written on here will always annoy someone.
😉
ChrisSnSFree MemberAs a lifelong insomniac, I can tell you that there is no such thing as a one stop magic cure all.
I’ve tried many many different things over the years, none of which work for every occasion. You’ll know how your own body ticks better than anyone else & if you spot it getting out of normal habits, try and nail it at that point.
I’m not a big fan of alcohol as a cure as it doesn’t work…simple as. But, I know myself, that if I’m getting out of a sleep pattern then downing half a bottle of red wine will knock me out….sure, I’ll wake up at 3 or 4 am, but at least until that point, I’ve been out cold ! – sometimes, a couple of simultaneous nights on half a bottle of red willbring me back to a more normal pattern.
Better get it sorted, even if it means doing that very un-blokey thing of seeking help.
Going through life in a sleep deprived spaced out haze is not good.Good luck !
Chris
SnSFree MemberIf wife is currently turned on and working, use this opportunity to check Internet forums for people with similar wife problems…perhaps arrange a temp swap to see if wife problem goes away or is common issue for this model.
Then get together with other participants to discuss.Chris
SnSFree MemberRealman,
Guessing a few of us here are wondering how you’re getting on ?Chris
SnSFree MemberThis brought back some very bad memories.
The same thing happened to me – On April 26, it will be four years ago since I had to cut Andy’s body down – But, the memory’s still ‘raw’.
You will experience an absolute roller coaster of emotions from very upset to incredibly angry. – This is normal.
It’s an awful position to be in – the constant questioning and beating yourself up wondering if you’d missed something, however small.
One of the posters above mentioned you being linked with University ? – If this is the case, I’m guessing they’ll have someone professional trained to help you with this kind of situation – Use them !
Most blokes initial reaction at the thought of seeking help is to feel that they’re somehow weak – Get rid of that thought right now !
Go and speak to someone as it will be a good way to offload & It’s good to have someone more professional keeping their eye on you other than just well meaning friends.
Your friend will have left a sudden and very painful hole in peoples lives – It’s the ones he’s left behind who need help.
If you do want to offload to a complete stranger – email’s in the profile.
Very best and sincere wishes.
ChrisSnSFree Member4 bikes on my Laguna estate is pretty easy – recon I could do 5 at a push with pedals and sadles off & first facing forwards, second backwards and so on).
Not sure I’d want to though.
As above you’d need to check the carrying capacity & even if all was “within spec” I’d still be looking at alternatives as im always a bit paranoid of stresses & strains of wind, corners and just about everything really when they’re all sat on top.
I never go above 60 anyway with the bikes on so can make for a slower journey, but at least I feel safer. Is it possible to disassemble the smallest & put inside the car ?
Chris
SnSFree MemberDon’t know about the overall location, but the graveyard bit was filmed at a churchyard on the tops, kind of halfway between Denshaw and Delph.
We go to the pub two or three times a week & a few weeks ago spotted the film set type razor wire & keep out signs… We asked Michael & Sheila who run the pub & they said about the film crew being there for a BBC3 program.
Pub in question is the Royal Oak, Heights….known locally as th’ Heights
Chris
SnSFree MemberRecorded it & set it on series link.
Apparently, The grave yard bits were filmed in the churchyard right next door to the pub I use as my local ….there’s a pub and a church & that’s pretty much it.Looking forward…a good zombie flick ! 🙂
Chris
SnSFree MemberHave you got access to Costco ?
Got a Bosch S5 recently – Can’t recall the exact cost, but worked out cheaper than anywhere else reasonably local.
Chris
SnSFree MemberIn the dim and distant…
2 x Ford Sierra’s
2 x BMW 5 series ( the first of which was hampered still further by having stupidly wide low profile wheels & tyres)You kind of got the feeling it would be a one way trip when venturing out in snowy conditions – Not exactly fun considering the steep hill I live at the top of.
used to use a few very large heavy bags of sand as directly over the rear wheels as poss – helped quite a bit but never a pleasant proposition.Chris
SnSFree MemberI’d also say they’re on the generous side (with the amount of material used overall – comfort rather than fashionable fit)
If you know what size you need, it’s worth shopping around as you can usually find them discounted online.
My Only (very minor) gripe is that I have to wear a T shirt / vest top as the elasticated type waist band sorta chaffs against my skin. Otherwise, can’t fault them & been using them for many years.
Chris
SnSFree Member(I actually have 3 that I try to use in daily life).
Treat others how you’d like to be treated yourself.
See a problem – Fix it.
Measure twice, cut once. ( not literally just to do with cutting stuff).
Chris
SnSFree MemberIve seen similar twice but only once with GU10’s ( GU10’s being mains voltage as opposed the MR16s being 12v)
The MR16 issue was LED’s being used with a normal Halogen transformer.
The GU10s turned out to be a faulty switch – Luckily, this was quite an easy thing to test.
Hope you’re is nothing more than a faulty switch ! – But – bear in mind what Trail-rat said …just in case.
Chris
SnSFree MemberYou hear the words your dad used to say now coming out of your mouth.
“Turn that noise down”Chris
SnSFree MemberYou set off from one room & by the time you’ve left it, you’ve completely forgotten what you’re looking for & where it is.
( Yep – earlier today ….bad sign for a near 48 yr old)
ChrisSnSFree MemberBeen using chainsaw oil for over a decade.
Top tip – Forget the ‘environmentally friendly’ stuff – I tried it & ended up with a completely stiff unusable chain that looked like it was coated in resin if left unattended for a few days !
But, the ordinary stuff works just fine.
ChrisSnSFree MemberLooking to replace the halogens in the kitchen & hallway – 50w 12v MR16’s & 35w 12v MR16’s.
Im trying to find an LED with as close a colour match as possible to the nice warm ‘cozy’ feeling halogens. ( i’m aware that they won’t be exactly the same, but I am trying to get as close as possible)
Any particular make / model I should be looking at ?
Chris
SnSFree MemberMine are usually triggered by a bright flash of light, like reflecting off a windshield or chrome car parts, etc. I do occasionally wake up during the night and realize that the aura is beginning.
The above is pretty much the same for me.
Only tend to get two possibly three a year. Paracetamol & Ibuprofen have NO effect whatsoever on mine.
Doctor prescribed 30mg codeine & dark room are the only things that work for me – It’s just the next couple of days when you just feel ‘off’ I can’t find a way to combat.
If you thought it would help, you’d happily stick your head in a cow-pat in full view of the entire world.
Chris
SnSFree MemberVery glad to hear he’s back 🙂
Ours used to go walk abouts when he was younger….we never liked it & were always very happy to see him back ( twice a year and usually
three to four days at a time was a typical outing for him).
Doesn’t seem to do it now he’s a bit older….prefers his home comforts these days 🙂Chris
SnSFree MemberManaged about a minute of the interview on the way back from the gym before hitting the off button.
Talk about self obsessed !!!
Chris
SnSFree MemberGot fascinated when reading Martin Cruz Smith’s ‘Wolves eat Dogs’ – a detective type story set in the exclusion zone / Black villages.
( Just checked, there are some on ebay for reasonable prices)Really enjoyed the book – may have to read it again.
Chris
SnSFree MemberI Always carry the following …
cleaning swabs / wipes ( alcohol type things to help clean infection)
dressings & small bandages
plasters
paracetamol
gauze
safety pins
large ish elastic bands.I’m pretty sure there’s other things in there but can’t recall from the top of my head
Chris
SnSFree Member2011 – late Dec
Still waiting for the Health Benefits to visibly kick in.
Have I now turned into an Athletic Mountain Bike God who laughs in the face of hills ? ….Nope – still wheeze up like everyone else.
Does my food taste stunning ! …err Nope.
Do I have more energy ? – Well, I’m guessing it’s a yes on that one – I need it to help drag the extra 2 stone that I piled on.So, maybe no visible or noticeable effects, but, do I feel immensely proud of myself for giving up ? Hell yes !!!
Chris
SnSFree MemberReally am Very pleased for you !
Can’t imagine what you must have gone through thinking about what the initial prognosis was.You going to look after it this time 😉
I’ll drink one to your good health this evening 🙂
Chris
SnSFree MemberNever tried a PB on a 2k
Just started using 2k rowing as a warmup before going to a Trixter Cycling class or a normal Gym session.
So long as I keep it steady & it’s under 10 mins for 2k, I’m happy enough … but im also late 40’s and pretty unfit & I know for sure that I’m going to get beasted in the trixter class so am not going to go stupid before i go in.
Chris
SnSFree MemberBeen a vegetarian for over 45 years (ie most of my life)
Even now in this day and age, there seems to be predominantly two basic reactions when dining out with people for the first time :-
1. ( you can see this written on their faces) – Vegetarian ??? – but he looks so normal ! followed by the furtive surreptitious glances to see if I have cross-eyes or webbed fingers.
2. The Super aplogetic people who stumble over themselves in an effort to make out that they’ve virtually vegetarian.I really really couldn’t give a damn what anyone else eats – it’s entirely upto them !
P.s. I’m actually allergic to red meat & don’t like the texture or taste of anything that crawls out of the sea.
So not a ‘moral’ vegetarian.Chris
SnSFree MemberBought my wife one in the hope that it would end up being mine after she got bored with it – Not happened as she loves it ! – Which, to be honest, I’m actually happy about.
Downside of this being that she’s like a teenager with it seemingly glued to her hand 😉
On the rare occasions I’ve managed to get my hands on it, I’ve always been left with the impression that it’s an exceptionally good piece of kit for the money
If I had to nit-pick, I’d say it could do with a better camera, ….but taking into account the price and it’s other talents, I could easily live with it.
It’s rather good !
