It’s like northern soul. Erm or stamp collecting maybe. You need some people to keep the faith. Keep the torch burning. There are flaws to this for sure and ultimately not everyone can do it. For some it’d be daft, a bad priority call, childish, selfish, whatever. Of course. Depends who you are, where you are, blah blah blah.

But it’s great to see something provocative pricking consciences, making people think. Beats reviews of gloves or bikes or whatever any day.

    Loved the article.

DIY is absolutely feasible, and may be cheaper, but may want to think about the benefits an established set up provides, especially in terms of guiding. Going a long way to work out which trails are good for you etc, whereas a guide will take you direct to the stuff you want to ride hopefully. Seems a no brainer to me, especially for a 1st time.

Also you tend to get food and beer thrown in with the travel companies/chalets. Which is a good thing, cos the costs of beer and food is generally spectacular in the Alps.

Also Dead Alive. Fun zombie gore fest. Top scene = bloke with flymo strapped to his chest running at a sea of zombies. Top quote from a priest: “kick ass for the lord”.

    Bloodydisgusting.com liked it too.

Not quite a stuffed goat on wheels film, but close. I thought it even better than ghostbusters, and that’s saying something.

Got to say we’ve hardly needed to wear coats at all this year (oops I mean summer) so far. We must be just lucky living in sunny Manchester, hem hem. Anyway, here’s a dry picture out taking the bikes for a walk from last summer

Yup, just posted on t’other thread, but I got done after spending with CRC on 24th March. The frauds started coming through about 16th April, and there were many.

N.B. This was a new card.

Bought stuff on line on 24th March. Got a hefty clobbering of fraud that started with the 02 test around 16th April.

They have no class. Pizzahut, yuk. They’ve actually tried to get £1000+, successfully got about £300…

Bits of Doctor’s gate are unrideable as a downhill unless your name is Danny Macaskill. Some of the difficult bits are just too difficult, then there’s boggy bits, and eroded trail bits which you can’t ride unless you want to fall in the river, then it’s boring. All imho.

I’d like to see a video of someone nailing those first rocky switchbacks after the gate.

Glen Rosa is stunningly beautiful and no navigation challenges. Nice for a few hours, but getting my bike through a dear gate or two was a challenge. I actually had to drop it over a deer fence into some heather at one point. I’d recommend popping in to the Arran Adventure Club, think it’s the same as the MTB club mentioned above actually – they had shed loads of local routes on pre-printed maps and were really helpful. Just tell them what type of ride you want and for how long and they’l probably sort you out. Well they did us! And a great ride it was too.

Yeah, was toying with making extra dampeners out of old inner tube, but after extensive experimentation tonight I am opting to pilot a joint approach of tightening the bleeder as tight as a tight thing, and adding a couple of zip ties. Shall test this weds evening on some bobbly ground. Seemed to work ok in the bedroom tbh but I had to stop as I was scaring my wife. Again.

It’s defo the mount and not my head wobbling! It’s ok if I don’t ride on bobbly floors, mind…

Lowey, was thinking same. We ride there a fair bit, reckon I’ve done the last bit on the last video, but the rest is a mystery. Perversely I kinda think they should keep it to themselves! 🙂

It can be an absolute beast of a ride. If you start at sadgill, go up then down gatescarth to haweswater, that’s a pretty smart downhill in itself. The climb up to nan bield from haweswater is long and very slow. There’s a bit after small water which is rideable but most of it will be with bikes on backs. The downhill from nan bield towards kentmere is wicked. The first bit has some steep rocky switchbacks with hairy consequences for failure. But to ride it the other way you’d need to be Evel knievel. Or parachutes. Or look at the Danny mac vid of same. forget it. Really, itd be a waste of time. The stile end to sadgill bit is all rideable.

This ate 2 of our bikes. We were probably unlucky, but as a group ride it was a good plan to keep it this length. If you’ve got nervous riders in the group best warn them this is hard.

Uwe-r, thing about Manchester is there’s pretty good riding in all directions if you’ve a car. We ride Places like rivington, darwen, saddleworth, calderdale, most bits of the dark peak, wharncliffe and so on as night rides. There’s plenty of others do same. Join in with some of the local bunches, you’ll soon pick up where’s good.

I’d think about what you’re planning to ride of interest on the Staveley side too. If you’re just roading it to Gatescarth Pass, you might be better off starting from Sadgill instead? But you could throw in some of the Green Quarter or something like that?
