Was in training when I had mine done so the doc did it in my garage while I was on the turbo, had to do a 15 min standing sprint so he could get to me tackle. Nowt to it, did a PB 10Omiler in the afternoon. 😯

In reality, take it easy after the op for as long as you can, rely on the wife and kids to be your slave. Avoid doing anything strenuous, do what the nurse tells you hygene wise and you should be back on the bike and firing blanks within a fortnight no problem.

You will have black plums for a few days though.

I still go barbel fishing, chill time for me. sometime I catch something, sometimes I don’t. Bit like biking, sometimes its the best ride ever, sometimes it isn’t.

Got one of these last week for the roadbike rear stay. its superbly bright and clips on pretty much anywhere. http://www.raleigh.co.uk/ProductType/ProductRange/Product/Default.aspx?pc=2&pt=117&pg=7751. impressed with its brightness as are my fellow commuters!

I’ve ridden normal SPD’s since they came out but always on my MTB. Got a proper roadbike 6 weeks ago and stuck my XTRspd’s on and they were fine. I did however 3 weeks ago get some proper carbon soled proper 3 point SL whatever they are called, significantly better on a roadbike IMHO, but not a necessity.

As a rookie roadie who ran XTR Trail pedals for a month, I fitted some 105’s and got some carbon SL’shoes, feels much better on the road, less float (good or bad) but set up correctly they feel a lot better.

I have no idea what this means, I was hungry after the ride and had a 12 minute puncture fix at 7 miles…I also had lots of little black flies stuck to my sweaty head and down my unzipped top. Beer stop at the end involved approx 1200 calories so I needed a kebab to replace the deficit.

I had a flat bar roadrat for a couple of years as a commuter, and did the odd longer ride too, even got real skinny tyres on it and it made a huge difference to speed. I then borrowed a state of the art Cervelo with state of the art dura-ace etc, and did 30 miles or so on it, felt fast but very unstable (to me) and quite scary-thought it wasn’t for me narrow bars compared to my 760mm etc 8O. Sold my rat and went back to a hardtail and FS for a couple of years but with this lousy summer took the plunge and got a nice carbon Defy advanced 2 … at the price I got it, I couldn’t lose out if I sold it on. First two or three rides and I slowly got used to the position, stability etc to the point where 3 weeks in and it feels quite natural now. Last night I went out with proper roadies for a midweek ’50 miler 😳 and really enjoyed it, the intensity was much higher than I anticipated, but at the end of the ride, I was informed that they don’t normally go that fast all of the time….. 😈 they were toying with a MTB’r!

Same boat for me two weeks ago. took the plunge last Friday and have commuted every day adding a few miles here and there and with the shocking weather have made my commute home ‘my cycling fix’. Bit Forrest Gump really, decide to ride somewhere, then add a bit more, then somewhere else and before you know it 50 miles done. Slowly getting used to the different position, trying to spin a bit more rather than pushing a harder gear. In fact I’m going out with some proper roadies next week one night 😯

Wow, STW never ceases to amaze!

I have gone carbon, straight in, and the geometry apparently is ‘aimed at recreational mtb riding wannabe tour riders’. Having sat on the bike and barely able to see the front wheel it seems a bit strange….. my bombers and hub are clearly visible 3 feet in front of me normally!

Another season ticket holder given 3 choices would be Bengal lodge on the A34 at Tittensor, Spice Exchange or the middle curry house in Stone high street (preferable!)

On my 3rd or 4th set of XTR TRAILS and not impressed at all. The bearings develop play within 3 months and my lest set the axle sheared off. All replaced under warranty (now trying XT) but not a patch on previous XTR SPD’s. My old 959 979 pedals ran for years and years without so much as a second glance.
