Iv’e tried eating early, eating a little then some at work, and have found best bet is a cereal bar with my morning cuppa, about 7.15, fresh orange then commute in-10 miles or so. I then have a bowl of porridge at about 9.30. keeps me happy til proper breakfast at 10, then sarnies and fruit at 11, lunch at 12, cuppa soups every 15 mins through the afternoon etc….

2 years ago we stopped at a site near to a place called La Mole (by St Tropez private airport). The roads would be a cyclists dream in that area. I went into Coglin, small town with a supermarket and found a great bikeshop, owner was an ex tour rider who spoke 5 or 6 languages fluently-top fella. I asked about hiring a bike for the odd day as I had the familly with me and could literally escape for a few hours here and there. He asked for my passport and charged my 10 euros a day for a nearly new Meta 5, gave me a few maps and away I went. Offroad was stunning with huge mountainous areas etc…. I’m sure there would have been the opportunity to join a regular ride in that area.

Lance Armstrong crashed during the first stage of Spain’s Vuelta Castilla y Leon Monday. He was taken to a hospital, where it was confirmed that broke his right collarbone.

Armstrong was involved in a pile-up with other riders on the 168.3-km course between Paredes de Nava and Baltanas.

A Twitter update from Johan Bruyneel, the manager of Astana (who was not at the race), said: “Clean collarbone fracture without complications. Should be fast recovery …”

Armstrong, who hadn’t raced in Spain for five years, entered the ambulance trying to hold his right arm. He was treated at the Rio Carrion hospital in Palencia.
