Can you make a jump over the puddle?
Try wrapping plumbers tape over the tread and re-screwing back on, may be a stop gap till you get it fixed.
smudgeFree MemberPlus you have the temperature to put up with. The military batteries we used to build went down to -50C.
The French cells we used as part of the UL test was to drive a nail through the cell and made sure it didn’t explode or ignite.
Did you used to use the Electrochem cells for the Artic conditions? These are also widely used in the oil industry for the high temperatures as well – again single use.
smudgeFree MemberFrom 24 yrs in the battery industry and just over 13 in Li-Ion & Li-Po assembly and design.
Li-Ion & Li-Po cells are perfectly safe so long as they are looked after & used within the limits of the specification in which they were built for.
It is when they are abused and used out of this limit that problems occur, ie circuits taken off or built from old cells from laptops etcThe Protection circuit protects against: Over-Charge, Under-Discharge, short circuit protection & Over current protection. Added to this each Li-Ion cell will additionally have its on resetable fuse inbuilt under the positive cap. There may also be a non-resettable fuse & Thermal fuse depending on application.
The protection circuit on these type of batteries are designed only as a back up should the equipment in which they are designed is faulty or fail and should NOT alone be used to control the batteries use. The equipment set to switch off within the cut off voltage and charger set to cut off at the end of charge voltage.
The Protection circuit also monitors each series cell within the battery and should one cell fail or become inbalanced (different voltage to the rest of the cells) the protection circuit will stop the battery from working – again without the circuit the other cells would try to charge the rogue cell (not nice to happen!)
There is too much dodgy stuff out there that is poorly built and not UL approved. This can cost around >£8k to get tested and approved, so you imagine this for every diferent type of battery built. You can get round it by classing them as samples or similar design. Lots of ground that even FIA keep changing.
There are too many dodgy ebay shops out there selling at ridiculous prices and most of the batteries come from Shenzhen, but if you dont know the manufacturer they could be made from anything and classed as anything. I have seen loads of supposed 2.6Ah cells and when tested are lucky to be 2Ah. Same with the 3Ah cells which struggle to meet anywhere near to the spec.
As an extra bit, im off to visit my supplier in a few months time. They have invited me over to see them first hand to discuss new target markets and a guided tour of their factory is also laid on.
smudgeFree MemberSoo.
Sorry to hear about the faulty charger. Send me an email and I’ll help you out with a replacement. I have a few compatible types that will be adequate for what you are after.Smudge
smudgeFree MemberHi Mike,
It would of been easier to email me direct? The battery is in an approx 30-50% charge state when you receive it, although it can be used straight away I would suggest a full charge first
Connect the battery to the charger and then switch on at the mains, The led should then show a RED to show it is charging and then turn GREEN to show it is then fully charged.
Both the battery and charger contain inbuilt protection – The battery against: Over-Charge, Under-charge and also short-circuit protection, The Charger will also prevent over-charging.
Li-Ion batteries are not best left on charge all the time as they dont like it and this will reduce the long term life of the battery, also best not left in a 100% charged state for long periods. ie summer months. Charged once a week before or straight after a ride would probably be a good idea if used regulary.
During the summer months if not being used they are best left in an approx 30-50% charged state, although the battery is not being used during this period the cells will continue to drain through the protection circuit, this may only be milliamps but over a long period it can totally discharge the battery and it may not be recoverable.
Any other questions please feel free to ask away.

smudgeFree Memberlet me know what you find inside the maxxd – only interested in the battery  plus, how easy is it to open the battery end and resell after. Tah
Keep up the tinkering 8)
smudgeFree MemberZippy, what’s up with your mates Lupine light? If it is battery related please send it to me to look at , if light send it to Troutie.
I have compatible connectors that can be used for both the light and battery if it may be a connector problem.

smudgeFree MemberWaits for another early morning email asking for another battery to have a play with!
smudgeFree MemberHi Mosey,
Thanks for buying your light from me, it will be posted out to you tomorrow.I was refering to the fact that the UK chargers are great for over here but not too good with buyers in Germany, seems like they dont have charger adapters from 3 pin UK to Euro.
smudgeFree MemberThanks for the mention guys & to stayhigh for the light pics :D
Yes all lights come with the UK type charger 8) Come unstuck abit over the last few weeks now I have attracted attention from Europe. Can I also point out these lights are NOT compatible with DX or Magicshine as the connectors are slightly different and will not cross fit.
Campbell Coaching have put a blog together of their first night out using them as well Here
smudgeFree MemberDont mind if I do 8). Thanks for the up Steve
Jedi, How did you get it printed with your name on? Wouldnt mind having that done
smudgeFree MemberI don’t mind, as I get loads of duff batteries to try and fix or sell a better quality one – that costs more than the whole light they’ve just bought!!! But they can’t understand “how much! but the light only cost me £30”!
There will always be a market for the Trouties & Luminous’s lights to name a couple. So don’t give up 8)
Besides every year Troutie tells me this is his last year!
smudgeFree MemberMash,
If you’re in the Birmingham area you’re more than welcome to come nightriding with us and try a few different types of lights I have. Either the XML or a couple of Troutlights I also have.Smudge
smudgeFree MemberHi Mark and anyone else wanting to know more information about the compatible piggy back batteries I build , please email for more information.
The standard piggy back battery I build is a 3 cell 6.6Ah which can come with a standard lead or a specified lead length.
These batteries will also come with a ‘jumper’ for using the charger with (both the piggy back back battery and charger have male connectors)Smudge.
Led mods please email troutie
smudgeFree MemberMonster, I’d email troutie and get him to look at. Between us we should be able to upgrade your light
smudgeFree MemberThanks RicB.
Jim, you have a single cell 2.6Ah out to you in the post tomorrow. feedback welcomed 8)
smudgeFree MemberHow old is it Ric? whenever you need to do it let me know, I would guess there is a way of re-sealing it, even with a good doseage of silicone sealant on the inside before you close it up again and leave to set.
whilst your getting this done you might as well get the LED’s upgraded at the same time, like the previous post.
smudgeFree MemberHi Jim,
Yes, it will be posted back to you by the end of the week. Just on a charge/discharge test at the minute.
Did you get the lead from them direct as I wouldnt mind a few of those
Smudge
smudgeFree MemberI will give it a go if its a few years old and out off guarantee.
Do you know if it is easy enough to open? that will be the most difficult bit opening and resealing it.
OR another option is to email Troutie to look at and at the same time get him to upgrade the LEDs inside it to XPG’s or XML’s  – I can post him the new battery to fit in at the same time.
Please feel free to email me for more help.

smudgeFree MemberBig jim, any idea of the capacity of the cell.?
Actually send me an email and I’ll sort you a battery out to go inside itsmudgeFree MemberHi yah.
Yes that’s the 1S protection circuit along the edge of the batttery. I have a few made up so anyone after any please email me.
Sanyo and Samsung are good cells, that’s if they really are them.
Is there no light you can turn your hand to 8)
smudgeFree MemberHi trekster. Send me an email and I’ll see what I can do for you.
smudgeFree MemberI wouldnt mind seeing a nightriding vid with the new GoPro2 in use before I go about buying one
smudgeFree MemberThat bl***y handling charge!!?
Ive paid for the delivery WHY should I also have to then pay a handling charge when its in the UK. Does my head in.Feel like I should then invoice DHL, UPS etc an ‘accepting fee’
Some, I think its TNT will deliver the goods to your door and then invoice you through the post a few weeks later.
smudgeFree MemberYou really should of put a passport in this when it first got sent off, Got to be the most toured light in the world ….. it’s a record breaker :P
smudgeFree MemberI know I shouldnt of said anything!
I’m really in the ‘I want a light that can do this’ stage with the supplier and getting questions back and costs for the mods depending on the volume bought.
I am trying to sell a relatively cheap light for newbies to nightriding / on a budget.
As the questions get asked the prices go up as volume isnt high enough to justify modifying their standard light, I cant win really. But i’m giving it a go all the same. I will probably sell the 2 lights along side eachother. But a few months away atleast yet.BUT Performance wise they will never match the Troutlights, Luminouslights, Liteoptions, to name a few of this world.
smudgeFree MemberHi Cruz,
Please email me personally otherwise I will have loads of boxes with the head units missing out of them!
Besides like I have said before they are NOT DX or Magicshine lights and the connectors are slightly diferent and not compatible so they would need a new lead putting onto it.smudgeFree MemberNo problem, Email me if you would prefer the elasticated light mount to the velcro version.
OR, better still (to StuF)I can send you both so you have both options covered.smudgeFree MemberThanks for the feedback and positive comments.
Yes I know the light beam is a little concentrated and also the bug about switching between the modes, yes it annoys me to.
But for the price I am buying this as an off the shelf light. I can have the switch modes changed no problem and maybe 2 lenses to choose from but it would then increase the price of the light and new boxes to show the changes and then it would not be nearer the £100 per light?
But then theres a few you have emailed me and like the light settings – commuters, so I cant please everyone, i’d like too but not possible in this moment of time.
BUT I am in the process of a new light – New light head shape so I dont keep getting emails asking me if its a DX/magicshine light I am selling. This might well have new settings. But please dont start emailing me about it just yet as its at least a month away… Nice Christmas pressie
