I’m running Linux Mint which is a derivative of Ubuntu, only problems I had was getting my shonky old graphics card working but all ok now. Still unable to sync my mtp based mp3 player but other than that no problems at all.

The grey wiper seals are fairly easy to replace as long as you take care not to damage the new ones during installation.

With Motion Control I don’t think it matters whether it’s 5,10 or 15 weight oil. I run my Tora’s on 5w throughout and just turn the rebound damping up to compensate.

Did the Motion Control damper go in easy and did it move up and down freely before you put it all back together. It’s easy for the lip seal to curl back on itself when putting them back together.

Don’t store them upside down either or it takes 20 cycles of the fork to free them up again.

We had no issue with unwanted vehicles gaining access at last years event. We just made sure that all concessions or sponsors vehicles were on site before a set time and then secured the barrier half way up after that time. Anyone who was late had to walk up and ask for someone to let them in.

We had dry weather for last year too so can’t comment on what it would be like in the wet.

Download a Linux distribution which you can run live off a CD this one’s quite small and good Puppy Linux then repartition your hard drive as previously suggested and copy all of your files to the new partition and if you want to you can then reinstall XP. Puppy is only 100MB download instead of 600MB for Ubuntu.

First find out whether it was a bridleway or not then your options will become clear.

Loving my ZEN. Lower BB than an On-One and a steeper seat angle to get the weight over the front better. It just eggs you on to attack the good bits. Been riding a slidey drop-out inbred for a while.

The inbred is super stable on fast rocky stuff in a straight line though.

’twas nice to meet you both, rest of the ride didn’t quite live up to the cheeky bit but some of the ruuty bits dropping down to Kinder Res were pretty good. Nice day out despite the sun never showing.

I can vouch for Crazy-legs climbing like a goat – when we took a shorter but steeper climb he cleared it and wasn’t even breathing heavily at the top, myself well I was hunting round for spare lungs.

The sealing on 475’s is toss, clean and regrease regularly and avoid jetwashing and you can make them last. If the ball bearings aren’t shiny after you’ve cleaned them it’s best to replace them.

Will be working the event as I did the Salford Nocturne last year. Hopefully the lighting will be better in Edinburgh it was properly dark in some places on the Salford course. No Salford event this year though due to cash shortages. There’s also a Blackpool Nocturne happening this year course hasn’t yet been finalised though.

Ah yes also met my wife there, also a Blackpool girl.

Stanley Park, one of the finest municipal parks in the country. The council are currently in the process of creating an adrenaline sports park for the kids (and adults who don’t know better) including skateboarding, inline skating and BMX.

Existing routes are a bit fireroady and good for beginners – nothing intimidating. There’s lot’s of interesting stuff off-piste although a local’s knowledge is required to find most of it.

The new trails are currently under construction and not ready for riding yet so don’t expect typical trail centre fayre. There’s lot’s of other riding around Lancs and there are the infamous Bogtrotters rides on Saturday and Sunday if you have transport.

Was there on Saturday and enjoyed some parts of it mainly the last downhill on the north loop. Found the twisty climb of the north loop very difficult with regards to the switchbacks which seemed either very steep or very tight in places – there are two or three which need a re-design.

Also thought it was one on the most slippery tracks I have ever ridden on where there was exposed slate bedrock – especially a couple of the off-camber turns.

After finishing the north loop I was left pondering how the group of young teenage girls setting off on hire bikes from the cyclewise shop, who didn’t know how to work their gears properly, would survive it.

I could imagine loving it on a dry, dusty day but I much preferrred the natural bridleways around Derwent.

I also feel that the amount of debris left at the side of the tracks is excessive and at best is distracting to less confident riders and at worst is interfering with the surface run-off. And if it looks poorly maintained it probably is.

My opinions could all be down to the fact that I am of limited talent.

Direct access makes more sense and will be cheaper in the long run if you’re over 21.

MZ ETZ 250 Quite a lot of suspension travel up front, tough as old boots – designed for far eastern road conditions. Nice and torquey for a 2-stroke as well and will do well on fuel. Get one with a disc brake.
People give them away and spares are cheap.

Got a 16″ slidey and am 5’7″. 75mm stem inline post forward on rails and a good stack of headset spacers on a 130mm fork. Seatpost is a long way out and I don’t find it easy to loft the front compared to other bikes, but blimey is it stable through rock gardens.

Only back pain I get is when I’ve been lifting it over stiles alot :-)

Second vote for the Anselmus, stayed there about 5 years ago, nice little bar for when you can’t be arsed going out in the rain, good brekkie in a conti buffet style and really good staff. Nice easy walk into the centre.

If it’s a coil fork then the problem is the compression side (right hand fork leg). Good news is it’s fairly easy to sort if you can wield an allen key. I solved mine by simply removing the lowers and changing the oil – the procedure is in the service manual downloadable from the SRAM website.
