Thanks Ian I’ll check Superbesse out in August then:-) I did notice they had built some bits of boardwalk when I was at Lioan skiing in March so I might go take a look anyway as no doubt I’ll have to go to Aurillac sometime whilst there.
Whast are the Besse trails like?

Oh and I haven’t found any good bike shops west of Mauriac, Decathlon in Aurillac is not far from Le LORAN though.

Not yet but planning on visiting the Lioran this summer. On a road ride last year I spotted some interesting tracks around St. Christophe Les Gorges which I’m going to recce too.

Let me know how you get on with Besse if you go

+1 for wordpress, lots of free responsive templates to choose from, easy to use CMS, plug-ins to do anything you want it to and fully open source.
Spend a bit of time thinking about what you want the site to do and find a template that requires the minimum amount of tweaking.

Ah I’m only 5’7″ so it will probably be on the small side for you.

What size are you after? I’m thinking of parting with my Pompetamine 8 (flat bar) for around the same price as a new Pompino SS.

Another vote for the boardman here too, budget for a shorter stem as the one supplied was a touch on the long side for a small frame. Mrs _jo runs 700×35 semi slick cross tyres on hers and it copes fine with towpaths and awful roads whilst still remaining quick on the tarmac.

    Just 6 miles each way

Downhill on the way in so not too sweaty by the time I make it to the office. I have a couple of nice alternative gentle off-road options available on which this is more than capable.

Don’t mind riding the railway line back tonight it’s a nice enough evening and I commute on a 26″ with fat slicks.

Is it the Skipton side of Thornton or the Earby side?

My Cannondale Bad Boy Frankenbike can just fit a 700×40 tyre with sod all clearance. I’d go 650b in the rear if I had the option again.

Front was no problem as I had 29er forks.

I’m also running a 50mm stem and drop bars just before you think it can’t sound any worse. It’s here

Let me know your route, I commute that Barnolswick-Broughton on a daily basis and can keep a look out for you on the off chance.

If you decide to go Alfine – I have just changed my Pompetamine to flat bar – just couldn’t get on with drops (the beer gut isn’t shifting!) so I have a set of 8spd Alfine Versa drop bar levers for drops if you’re interested…

For off-road I run 32T front 18T rear but I spin out in top very quickly on the road – but I can ride up just about anything that my MTB with a standard 3 x 9 set-up can if it’s not too rocky.

Not finding crunchbang buggy at all in open box, and I’m using an old dell laptop with an additional monitor for dual screens. Thunar has made big strides forward. The nexus 7 issue is related to libmtp I think as I can sync but not file transfer, stuck with ftp transfer for now

Depends on your software requirements, gimp isn’t a creative suite replacement, libre office has a few compatibility issues with Microsoft office formatted docs. Syncing with iPhone is impossible-no iTunes replacement, and I have yet to figure out file transfer with my nexus 7 too.
I started on Linux mint, and would recommend Linux mint Debian edition over normal Linux mint.
I use crunch bang as my daily driver now.

Why not buy the MTB version and then just buy a couple of road inners.

We have a TT, the 2.0 turbo is plenty rapid but not an engaging drive and the doors are very long and heavy. PITA to get in and out of, noisy not very comfortable and a bit claustrophobic.
Just not fun. Boot is a reasonable size though and 35 mpg on the motorway.
Can’t wait to get rid of it.

Unlucky with your nipples – I get mine from various ebay stores, depending on who has the best deal at the time. (the more gopping colours tend to be cheaper)

    smokey_jo
    Full Member

Lighter feel at the lever more room between the inner and outer to get your cable lube of choice in there and less drag between inner and outer.

Use gear inners on my Shimano st2200 shifters on my monstercross and no problems. As long as the cable nipple can’t pull through the hole it’s fine – only shifter it wouldn’t work on was a versa drop-bar shifter for an alfine hub nipple got jammed and couldn’t rotate.

Oh and don’t bother with inline adjusters in the outers, pad adjustment at the caliper is all you should need. The adjusters just gives the carp another opportunity to get into your cables.

I run Jagwire “compressionless” brake outer with standard gear inners. I have yet to die :-)

I have one of those pigs and it’s doing well. Bonus (for me) is that it’s deep insert cups so deals with flared head tubes well.

I’d check the chainring is bent by taking it off the cranks and laying it on a flat surface before I started tweaking it with a spanner.
