So I finally got round to measuring the clearance I’d have across the stays with 650b wheels – turns out it’s less than with 700c as they’re curved in dramatically for hell clearance. Without guards looks like plenty of room for 700x 42 anyway

See I was wrong on the side of not bothering and then Atomiser posts that pic and sanername remind me that if it doesn’t work I’ve got a spare 26″ frame they can go in. Bum!

Hi Phil, no problem questioning what I’m doing – I have a few failed experiments to my name.

Mines a 2014 Hack and I think I have 32c tyres in at present without much clearance at the back. As I need to buy a new pair of wheels for another cx frame I have I was flirting with the idea of going to 650 x 42 to make it a bit more off-road capable.

I’ll measure across the stays at the relevant point and see what the score is, I think 42 = 1.5/1.6″

And where to get 650b x 47 tubeless tyres (this side of July)

Cheers guys, next question is going to be what 650b wheelset….

Been reading the slate reviews which kind of gave me the idea and there are a few more tyre choices out there now – Maxxis do a detonator in 1.5″ and Schwalbe have a big apple clone too.

Just wondered if anyone out there had done it

Saracen Hack at a cracking price

Easily capable of a bit of off-road with the right tyres.

Cable discs but you can upgrade later….

Think this week will be more about working on my tan than my technique, easily 12 degrees and slushy by 2pm.

Of to buy sun block, shorts and t-shirts in the morning for the afternoon !

The ski pass costs what it costs normally, doubt you will get much discount online. You might get a bit of a deal on equipment online, unlikely to get anything in resort unless you’re willing to shop around..

Fresh snow in Obergurgl last night and today- shame we are leaving tomorrow morning.
Had some great blue bird days, cover is still really good.

Woohoo good to know – we’re landing there tomorrow teatime for a week :-) I was worried that it was going to rain as it was so warm

The promax ones on my 2014 Hack are pretty good. Easily as powerful as Bb7’s and I’ve not had to touch them in 1200 miles

Got a Hack myself, the wheels may be heavy but they are also pretty tough. Mine has taken some punishment on rough towpath and heavily potholed lanes and are still absolutely true. If you are short like me beware of toe overlap if you plan on using guards.

Anywhere doing deals on lighter disc road/cross wheels?

Yes yes, it is nearly time. Obergurgl, 1 week, first trip in years, to say I’m excited is understanding it.

Obergurgl on the 9th for me, 3rd trip of the year but looking forward to a bit of Nederhutte apres and the new Motorbike museum as well as hoping the snow’s good

    very jealous .

going to France for easter , Millau ( south massif central), hoping there will be a bit of snow left at the local ski resorts .

Lots of snow at Lioran looking at the webcams, never managed to be there when every run is open yet but they are at the moment!

Hope it hangs around for you

Indeed whatnobeer Day 2 was much less crazy although not without a spot of ski mining. All mountain skis helped enormously. Looks like it’s another powder day today so more practice is in order

Just had my first day skiing in deep powder, I never knew it was going to be so different. Absolutely shattered but started to get a feel for it on the run home, still shoot mind

Capacity on the SC1 is very small. We have the SC2 and on one tank can clean hob, large worktop surfaces, taps and 2 sinks and also do the kitchen floor. Tank size is 1l.

Replaces bathrrom sprays, kitchen cleaner sprays and floor cleaning detergent and uses the same space as a mop and bucket.

Buy extra microfibre cloths off ebay.

It definitely feels solid but the short top tube suited me as I’m relatively short bodied and long-legged.

Hit no end of potholes and drain covers at full chat and no hint of a wobble in the wheels or punctures either.

Get quite a bit of toe overlap with guards on on the 54 with size 9’s.

Got my Hack 2 for less than £600 too and pretty happy with it for bimbling around and commuting on.

The omelettes at Bouc Blanc are enormous, must be 5 eggs in them, and only 14 Euros.

You can eat for 15 euro at the Fole Douce (sp?) at the buffet too if you’re into that sort of thing, the show was pretty good the day we went.

If it’s a nice day then lunch on the veranda at Chenus is fab but closer to 20 euro per head. The sun doesn’t go of the balcony until nearly 3pm so a late one misses the crowds.

Those boardman fi comp hybrids are nice kit – the bb5 brakes are a little heavy at the lever for small hands – but changing the brake inners to gear inners solves this.

The Maxxis detonators that come as standard are only 25mm so fatter tyres would be on my list too.

The standard seat is a bit of a razor blade to according to t’other half so maybe try and negotiate a change at sale time.

The bellaroma from lidl labeled as strength 10 are OK and acceptable value at 18p per capsule. I’d pay 25p per capsule if delivered and empties collected for recycling. Go through 10 capsules per day in the office.
