So Gonzy assuming your tyres and rims are a suitable match width wise what could I be doing wrong if my pressures were at 30psi….

(I’m what i would call an enthusiastic but not fast descender and sloth like climber)

Looking at my rims I have a 21mm internal width which isn’t ideal for 2.4″ tyres apparently.

It was on a ghetto setup which had seated and held air for a week and a 3 mile test ride before I had issues.

I’m thinking wider rims would have prevented the rolling off of the tyre.

I’ve been running with tubes at 35psi so was hoping to go a little lower.

Cheers any experience of running them tubeless on non tubeless rims?

Pressures were 30ish psi, if i need to go narrower it might be new wheels time…

I thought people who make their own homebrew sealant added glitter to it to plug bigger holes…? I thought a few rubber shavings might do the job just as well.

One more day left for me here in obergurgl, trying to snow and forecast for blue skies tomorrow – missus has had flu all week, started feeling better today and then faceplanted in a patch of windblown powder on the first run and bruised a rib

If it was my money I’d look at an xsr700 / mt07. Very easy to ride, not at all intimidating and a great engine! Money wise not much difference if you go for a used one and they do an A2 version.

If going naked then the KTM Duke 390 is lots of fun and power to weight is better than the CB.

Finally gave in and did mine this weekend. Rims are WTB with a very deep spoke well and standard non UST tyres.

Initially tried packing the channel with draught excluder rubber strips and then a couple of layers of TESA tape.

The Tesa tape is no good if you need it to deform – it’s just to rigid and putting a tight tyre on it will cause it to lift if it isn’t solidly supported.

Trid again with cloth duct tape, a narrow run in the well and then two runs overlapping and getting right into edges of rim. Went up with my ghetto inflator no problem – bit of leakage around valve but soon sealed up.

Added a few rubber shavings into my sealant by taking a surform to my old rubber mallet :-)

If you go to solden £10 buys a day in obergurgl too, 20 mins on the bus, very quiet and nice and high, snow looks good there too at the minute.

We went last week of the season last year and you could ski all day up top but it was slushy at the bottom.

Going back there on Saturday, 2 more sleeps

Will advances in ebikes cross over into helping wheel chair users?
Helped a bloke up a slight incline today and I got thinking that a bit of electrical assistance would have been a good thing for him.

    They already have

If it was me – and I haven’t tried this yet – I’d try superglue to keep the 2 sides of the split together and then a patch of sugru on the inside of the tyre at the split.

If that didn’t work then a stitch or two of fishing twine.

These bits will be rideable but I wouldn’t go out my way for them.

    Surely better options round Bingley..?

You can avoid the Sulber Nick section if its wet by usingthis path. Not been along there in a while so don’t know how bad it is but I have seen it quite badly eroded by the thousands of 3 peaks walkers who use it.

I’d always do my route the way round I’ve described unless you are a huge fan of brain out straight line downhills. The descent into Wharfe is a peach – it would be criminal to do it the other way round.

You could always loop back up to Ingleborough Common from Austwick and do the big long straight descent back to the top of the tunnels. Doing this means you will encounter the BGH (B**tard Grassy Hill) climb of legend.

Start from Clapham, up through the tunnels and turn left at the top of the first climb. Climb up the lane onto Ingleborough Common. Continue along to Sulber Nick haveing stopped to look at the Limestone Pavement at Thieves Moss. Turn right at Sulber Nick onto FP – I think keeping high on the bank to the right keeps you out of the eroded trails for most of it. Head towards Moughton Spring at the end of the Moughton Scars. Take the Moughton Lane footpath down to just above the ford then drop down to Wharfe on the BW. Turn left along the road and then take the BW to Feizor via Lower and Higher Bark House. Good cafe at Feizor. Take Pennine Bridleway to Austwick then Thwaite Lane BW back to the top of the tunnels to drop back to Clapham.

    Age: Early 40’s
Jacket: Yellow & grey (so the wife can see me) or black – both a bit on the big side
    Boots: Salomon, black
    Skis: Hire shop intermediates
Trews: Yellow & grey or black – baggy ish.
    Helmet: Black
Goggles: Ancient Scott things where the white has aged to a pub ceiling beige pre smoking ban – need to change these maybe
Pack: None, something from breakfast jammed in a jacket pocket if going for a big day out.
Facial: Tend to only shave on the last of the holiday so passport control isn’t an issue unless going somewhere posh for dinner.
Technique: better than ever but still a bit shit, especially on the icy stuff and still to conquer powder despite lots of teaching by my significantly better friends

These guys[/url] were the cheapest taxi I could find at the time for Innsbruck to Obergurgl and their customer service has been excellent.

162 euro return for 2 of us but could have taken 3 at that price.

Had some lovely sunny days in good conditions here in Courchevel this week, but today the wind has picked up and quite a few pistes are looking thin in patches.

There’s a chance of a small shower tonight but it’s quite warm on the meribel side and here in le Praz.

Use by cyclists will not help you here, you need evidence of uninterrupted use for 20 years by walkers for a footpath and horse riders for a bridleway and yes evidence forms will be needed – ROW law hasn’t caught up with the times yet.

We have a place in Pleaux in the Cantal, very rural, very quiet, very little traffic.

The Puy Mary is very popular with walker’s and cyclists as it features on the Tour occasionally, Salers is a pretty town quite close to this.

Argentat is quite pretty on the Dordogne. Most of the riding from here is in and out of river valleys.

September is a great time for cycling, it’s mostly dry, 20ish celsius. Can be difficult to find places open of the beaten track though so route planning is required.

100 mile days in the Cantal will involve a lot of elevation. Most of my 50 mile loops exceed 5000ft quite easily.

    I don’t like them

One of my wife’s friends bought a Dacia, new. She’s had a leak that they haven’t been able to find, it literally pools in the back foot well. It’s been in for warranty repair multiple times, still can’t fix it. Shocking

My duster did this – if you have speakers in the rear doors get them to have a look at them – mine got fixed under warranty – wrong screws or something weird

As long as you don’t buy the 1st gen Indian manufactured ones you should be OK. QC on those is dreadful as I can attest to.

The 4wd has a very low 1st gear instead of a low ration box for hill descent. MPG is around 45mpg, engine is a bit meh and I don’t find it comfortable after 3 hours (fabric seats). Back seats don’t fold flat and the carpet throughout is very thin. Seat fabric isn’t very hard wearing – worth putting covers on.

Parking sensors or a towbar are worthwhile as it’s longer than it feels.

After 30k miles theres a few trim rattles but nothing has broken apart from the bonnet switch which made the alarm set off randomly – cheap fix.

Customer Service is a bit poo if you have a problem. Worth paying the deposit on a credit card in case you have any serious issues as without that protection they will keep trying to repair even when you should be able to reject it. (Mine was a rust issue).

If I was buying again I would look at nearly new as the depreciation is pretty bad. In fact I would probably look at a 2nd hand Forrester instead as it would be a nicer place to sit.

    Howdy,

Just had something installed by Keybury at ours. Tag readers to open the doors from the outside and pads internally which just need your hand waved in front of them.

You still have to give someone/safe place a tag though. Alternatively I’m sure they would be able to install a keypad instead of a tag reader.

    http://keybury.co.uk/%5B/url%5D

Ask to speak to Tom Gee.

Alternatively Yale do some Smart Locks and numberpad locks which can be retro-fitted to pvc.
