Ordered the cassettes from Ali Express and it arrived within 10 days. Fitted it today along with a 30t Clarks NW I got off eBay for ,,£17 total cost £40. Quick spin up lane and I can live with the gaps and shifting is fine with a standard slx rear mech and the old part work chain.

Will report back once it gets a proper test

Just back from a great week in Austria where I really feel I made progress, after a lot of falling over in deep powder on our off-piste giuded day in poor light I had a play at the side of the piste on a brighter day. Although the snow was only half as deep and a bit tracked it definitely felt different to on piste and I got used to it quite quickly and felt confident within the hour.

Given how good the snow is at present I’m tempted by a post Easter week, has anyone seen any deals about for 2nd week in April fairly high up? Not seen any discounting by the boys sites yet, probably because conditions are so good!

Thinking Cervinia maybe, there is a skiclubgb week but it’s still at full price and flights are London and we’re up north and flights back would mean taxi to airport.

Ok so didn’t die but found it incredibly hard. I think I linked 3 turns a couple of times but ate a lot of snow, couldn’t care if some of it was yellow, managed 3 hours before calling enough, it’s like learning skiing all over again

Modern enough, all mountain rentals so should be ok

I’ll try to keep the panic at bay and my bladder under control then 🙂

Had a bit of practice in some slush today which hopefully will help with spreading the weight a little and it went pretty well so fingers crossed 👍

Getting better at looking up more  this week, on planks so guess the bindings comment didn’t apply😎

What’s the best way to get back stood up ? might be the most pertinent question but I’ll be sure to pass if offered yellow snow.

One of the benefits of of piste I’m looking forward to is not having to ski to the toilet all the time given my bladder capacity 😳

Having some great weather in obergurgl this week, plenty of sun but cold at night and the of flurry overnight to refresh the snow. Little bit of slush by 4 but only on the low runs into town.

Getting my first taste of off-piste tomorrow any last minute tips? 😬

Mass roofing in Barnoldswick did a nice job of my skate and flashing repairs and weren’t stupid expensive

Dickies chinos are indestructible and come in a variety of fits. Topman jeans have plenty of stretch and mine have lasted well for £30

Used rubber mallet to knock mine in, slapped a bit of grease on the shell – been all right so far.

Big screwdriver and lump hammer to knock the old one out.

Been doing headsets the same way for years, never had and bother with them either.

Might get a press if I ever had a carbon frame though

Westfields is a 2m height limit (I’ve parked Transits in here) and handy for Shepherds Bush tube. Park it overnight Friday and shift it to on street which is free after 8am on Sat. Usually places on Sinclair Road.

The ramps are extra weight and usually mean the rear suspension has been altered to facilitate it too.

Our Alhambra conversion scrubs it’s rear tyres to bits because the rear shocks have to be mounted differently.

This also makes the ride harsh and the road noise is dreadful, worse than a van.

Easy to get bikes in and out though, but I wouldn’t.

I know this is about new Berlingo’s and the like and it’s probably what I will change my Duster for when they start hitting the 2nd hand market.

Had my Duster for 5 years now and done 40,000 miles – it’s so few because it’s spent a lot of time at the paint shop having rusty panels replaced.

Boot floor is too high and the back seats don’t fold flat – means wheels out for 650b / 29ers or more than 26er / road bike.

Pale material in boot interior sides and roof lining means it’s always grubby.

The alarm is a joke – goes off randomly for no reason.

If you get a AWD version 1st gear is so low that you start pulling away in 2nd, the clutch soon starts to judder after that. It’s noisy and rarely does more than 40mpg.

The pedals are weirdly offset to the drivers seat so it’s horribly uncomfortable after a couple of hours – probably a shonky conversion from LHD to RHD

Oh and depreciation means that if you buy anything other than 2nd hand you need to be able to run it into the ground and not care about changing it every 3 years.

That’s where I’m undecided too – I can get the 11-36 cassette here in UK but means I need to buy a new 30T ring or wait for the cassette and try it with existing ring and chain device

Continuous and unchallenged use by bicycle cannot be used to establish rights of way can it…?

Or is that only for Bridleways, are restricted byways different….?

Been a while since I picked up the blue book

Glide & Slide agreed to a full refund as part of their commitment to lifetime guarantee on boot fit. Shame they didn’t get the fit right in the first place but can’t fault the after sales service.

Just back from Tignes, managed to ski 3 1/2 days out of the 6 because of the weather and avalanche risk.

Managed to cut my salopettes on the inside of the ankle due to a few falls in the deeper stuff. Can anyone recommend anything for repairing – looked at sail tape as the duct tape isn’t working.

Also the boy bought some boots from glide and slide in Otley before New Year and had them fitted, as he didn’t know how they were supposed to do feel he took the technicians advice that they were right for him. After 3 runs it was apparent they weren’t right so we went to a how do in resort to see if they could hear and shape. The guy there said that the shells were 15mm too narrow and that they couldn’t be stretched that much. What do you think are the chances of getting a refund?

Hardly anything open in Tignes again today and more snow forecast tomorrow. They blasted all night last night and will be tonight too, hopefully Tuesday will see it clear up a bit

So dumping down in Tignes again this afternoon but looking like it might clear a bit Monday pm, once in a generation snowfall say the locals.

First time in powder, excited and nervous, might need a lesson.

I got a pair of OEM Giant wheels off a £500 MTB – centrelock hubs and I think 21mm internal width. They work fine with WTB horizons

I got some cheap off the classifieds here – if you’re happy with a qr front fork on the cx bike there’s bound to be some bargains around although not particularly high spec.

When recovering from a dislocation of an elbow I always went for the shorter of the 2 bikes I have. Thing that helped most though was having a strong core – did leads of yoga for the 3 months I couldn’t ride

To find zippy, really enjoyed that, brought back memories of 6 of us traveling to Hawkstone in the back of a transit to watch Dave Thorpe in the 80’s. Always preferred the classic races though and loved walking round the pits

Gilpin Lodge is better evening food than l’enclume and you don’t have to do a tasting menu, plus they have hot tubs for bike cleaning purposes but the breakfast at l’enclume was unbeatable.

Rooms at l’enclume were nice but not exceptional considering what they charge.

Just had a quick look at the gilpin website – restaurant has changed quite a lot since I went there over 5 years ago so not sure if my comment still stands on the food but I doubt the rooms could have been improved much.

In case anyone is interested I found some guards to fit the stelvio with 650 x 47 horizons here

Front disk side stays need a bit of adjustment to clear the caliper but there’s enough length on the stays to do so.

QB online user here, not an accountant but fairly tech savvy.

I find it easy enough to use and we have e-commerce and quite a few wholesale customers.

Watch the VAT rates when producing invoices – I found it confusing to begin with.
