If you go to Mont Dore, then Salers is only 2 hours drive away. If you’ve got bikes (or you can rent there) you could ride the TDF climb of the Puy Mary. It’s a popular walk to the summit too. Salers is a lovely little medieval village and worthy of a night. Less than 5 miles out of the village is a brewery which does lots of local artisan beers and the food is supposed to be good too. (Not had chance to eat there myself yet). The restaurants in Salers itself are pretty good themselves.

The Pedalorail is popular too now they are e-assisted :-)

Limit for wine is 24 bottles post brexit. Price comparison I find a 7 euro Cote du Rhone red or a cote de Provence Rose will be of similar quality to a £10 bottle in the UK in a standard Intermarche.

The Majestic in Calais used to be a bit cheaper but they closed the store because of the new limits

You are being offered the trade value. I had this recently with a similar value car in a non fault claim.I allowed the other drivers insurers to handle everything. They wrote off CAT N within 2 days just by looking at pics of the damage and offered me trade value. I pushed back and showed them ads and said you have to put me back where I was before the accident. I managed to get another £250 added on but that was just discretionary apparently. As I was keeping the car and not bothering repairing the cosmetic damage I just took it and moved on for the sake of the extra £500 I wanted.

A previous write off where I wasn’t at fault I used a claims handler who had put me in a ludicrously expensive hire car. Funnily enough I was offered the retail market value within hours of it being written off with no haggling.

Petrol c class Merc with the 1.8 turbo will do 40mpg on a run. Beware the timing chains though, they tend to go around 100k miles and it’s a 1k bill

“Never met a rich vet. If they didn’t price drugs up they’d need to increase consultancy charges to make up the shortfall.”

I know a rich vet, used to be an Indie and sold out to a corporate for 7 figures. (2 Practices and large animal call outs). He still works part-time for them and is easily in the higher rate tax bracket.

2 large premium SUV’s on the drive, chalet in Les Gets lives in a massive detached house with a stonking garden.

He used to charge us full whack for meds for our dogs now he’s not the one making the profit he just sends an amazon link most of the time.

We’ve just had to renew and rates for fixed are 3% higher than our old one if we could have we would have gone onto interest only fixed/tracker for 12 months and then see what happens in 6 months time.

We’re stuck in a spendy deal for 2 years by which time hopefully things will come down a bit.

The puncher should have it explained to him by a teacher why it isn’t ok to punch people and should apologise to your son understanding why he his doing so.

That really should be the end of it.

Brand new Himalayan 411’s are less than £4k OTR. Residuals are staying strong despite the new 450 Himalayan arriving in dealerships.

Go nearly new and you would skip having to pay 1st service and the first thing people do is usually put a rack and luggage on them so that would save you the cost of doing it yourself.

eg Heated grips, luggage, 2k miles, £3800

Actually got some citric acid in powder form for degreasing purposes. Is it worth making a solution and giving this a go?

Bikesure were lowest for me for a single bike but spendy for 2 bikes, also their admin fee for changes is £35 so add that on if swapping from summer to winter bikes

I did what Cougar suggested and it worked for a short while but BBC, ITV and Sky are getting pretty good at spotting this now and soom clamp down. It worked for about 6 months though.

“That would penalise people who are already addicted and unable to do anything about it. ”

But it is possible to do something about it – there must be thousands of ex-smokers out there…

Don’t know why they don’t just whack a tax escalator on them and maybe ban duty free imports.

Guess the black market will need some attention…

OK, I’ve put new knobbly tyres on the bike after waiting too long for drier conditions to be able to eke out another few months of service, bought some riding trousers, warmer gloves and a rain jacket.

If that doesn’t cause a hosepipe ban I don’t know what will.

(Sorry no pics of a soggy Gisburn ride)

Watching this with interest, been having trouble swinging my leg over a bike for 12 months now with hip and groin pain.

Finally got a referral from my GP to a physio in a fortnight’s time so hoping for some help then.

I started taking Ibuprofen daily for a month which helped, I stopped taking it after my GP appointment and within 4 days lower back, hip and groin pain is back worse than ever.

Tried lots of stretching, yoga and massage and nothing has solved it for now than a couple of days at a time so far.

So bad today I couldn’t get on the motorbike without a step🥺

Old shape Vauxhall Meriva, massive load area for a small car and only old biddies bought a petrol auto so low miles. £2K tops.

Slow and horrible to drive but practical.

I don’t think all render is suitable for painting, K-rend I think needs cleaning rather than painting. Something to do with breathability maybe…?

Dislocated an elbow, after 12 months i could just about manage a 10 mile road ride on smooth roads. Took nearly 3 years to be back to MTB without pain. Driving was painful for 3 months.

After bailing on the Jan trip have booked a 3v trip to La Tania for mid march.

Daily weather watching will now commence. If it’s awful conditions I might have a 1/2 day lesson on a board 🤯

Used to be the case that you couldn’t look up the MOT history and therefore check mileage is genuine on the gov.uk site. I’m pretty sure the Irish S-Max I bought had a few more miles on it than claimed.

Oh and they are all basically seaside cars so check for rusty bits

Given the weather forecast for next week we’re thinking of taking the bikes rather than the skis. Local skiing (Massif Central) is definitely a no-go, poor sods have had another terrible start to the season with nothing forecast for half-term either.

If we go we’ll head to the Alps for a few nights and get somewhere as high as we can, I don’t mind slush in Spring but it’s January FFS

I got a quote for this from (edit it wasn’t Transco – I’ll see if I can find who it was) and a local fitter recently for our shop and flat. We have one supply, meter in the flat, which feeds a boiler located in the shop which feeds the heating for the entire building which makes things tricky separating costs between shop and flat. around £5k for the new supply and meter.
Then you have the work to do for new boiler and pipework which was going to be another £5k on top of this.
Oh and they wouldn’t give you a date of when they could come and put the new supply in until they had surveyed the site but was told to expect months not weeks. No wonder the previous owner couldn’t be arsed doing it.

Maybe look for a new frame to swap everything across to.

You could try an angleset but that is only going to shave 1 or 2 degrees off the head angle.

Cheapest crossing west of Calais is usually Newhaven – Dieppe especially if you don’t need a cabin. 4 1/2 hours gives you time for food and a nap during the day crossing and I’ve had decent sleep in a cabin on the night crossings even if it’s a bit choppy.

Samur – Dieppe would be a doddle, way easier than Manchester – London.

Cam chain tensioners on the 1.8 petrol mercs need watching, they can wear causing chain to stretch £1k to fix. Tend to go at 110-125k miles. $k is good value though.

Similar size estates if you don’t mind diesel would be a Seat Exeo – Audi A4 with a Seat badge and the 2.0 tdi VW engine.

Newhaven – Dieppe is a 4 hour crossing so possible to get a bit of kip if you book a cabin and get on board early. Prices usually same as Dover-Calais once you’ve added the cabin.

In the summer there’s an 11pm sailing from Newhaven which works well.

We often drive down to the Auvergne (which is about 3-4 hours further on) this way from East Lancs – it’s a solid day of driving but not too bad in the summer if you can share driving duties. In Winter at night the headlight glare makes it much more tiring.

It’s rare that a Wp core database or plug-in update will break a site but I have had it happen once or twice. It’s usually because of an old unmaintained plug-in or custom code in the theme.

Make a note of the version of WP you are upgrading from – worst case scenario is that you might have to download that version and overwrite the updated version.

Do you have SSH or ftp access to the hosting? Or access to the control panel of the hosting?
