yes :) Wales is great for pushing stuff like this. Gist of it was the first bikes were imported from Canada, but they (in Wales) are trying to get patents/whatever, IP on their design to go big with it here and worldwide.
what i found weird was the 4 wheel bikes looked so right, when you saw 2 wheelers going along with them, 2 wheels looked wrong?!

always good to see things saved, wish i could do this. any reason you didn’t add external support? best i could think is a few thin flat strips perpendicular to the tube (smooth the edges for god’s sake!), but there are other ways i guess. not pretty but it’s obviously a stressed area weakened by the original shock mount weld. shame turner didn’t continue their bracket higher and use it as brace? Trek solved this on my old bike by forging the whole piece (bb, shock mount, main pivot and bottom of seat tube) in one and then welding the top of the seat tube inside with a bulge and a long overlap. never seen those fail :)

if i was doing this i’d probably weld some straight tabs around it. like fins on a rocket, as drawn by a 3 year old.
but then i’m not an engineer..

yes he can, but ultimately sellers are their customers, so ebay just give you a slap on the wrist and let you go right back to it..

    or engraved for £5 more..
like a t-shirt though, you want to go easy on the funnies, could get old fast.

oooh linky please (sorry if i missed it).
need.. well don’t need. would like something to go with my 872. ideally with same connector, is that also 8.4v?

Lord, will people buy any piece of s**t with a nice name on it?!
i guess these are misinformed “collectors”, not riders? who’d want to ride those designs with any name on..

tbf, name models (like that Spesh) from 10 years ago *do* like amazingly like supermarket bikes today. I can’t wait to see all our current fancy bikes in the supermarkets in 10 years? :D

hmm i tried to introduce geotex (membrane) at QECP and it got turned down as not natural.. pretty funny considering what else we do up there. it does look shit if it shows though!

Also, imho, but membrane+scalpings makes for a pretty boring looking trail, ok for a blue maybe, but i’d rather ride some nice boards any day as they make a nice feature :)

the pine branches thing is interesting, doesn’t that bounce all over the place?

when you stand in a puddle or stream

i need to stop doing that, because you’re right :). i like to ride where it’s really wet sometimes.. and stand in streams. or fall off into them (this is sort of ok with MW80s). at least with merino socks, your feet can stay fairly warm. or not frozen.

i meant AM41. not really a winter boot but seems to be the best we have.

there’s really no waterproof winter boots for flat pedals then?

AM41s do let water straight in though and i’m not a believer in waterproof socks either :/

yeah doesn’t seem to be any equivalent of the fantastic MW80/MW02 for flat pedals? gonna carry on with my bit “special” AM40s i guess..

hmm good point, not chicken wire then.
the rough log idea is nice. anything like this needs maintenance as it involves nails. unless any master craftsmen out there can construct lovely things with just joints.

pics above look fine but in shady areas over winter everything round here gets covered in slime.
    better options for slippery decking:

    inserts
varnish and sprinkle with sand while wet :) (like free inserts )
    non slip paint
    better kinds of stainless mesh?
    astro-turf?!

hmm what’s problem with chicken wire? need something for grip, bare wood with green slime is lethal.. unless some treated wood stays clear? perhaps you can texture the wood a bit but then it might not last. stones on top idea is interesting, sounds complicated though!

ah grip tape! hardly au naturelle but heh.

and put some chicken wire on it? if you just fill in with earth, ur likely to create an “environmental impact”..

if someone’s in a private garage in a planned attack, no amount of lockage is going to stop them is it. you probably have all the tools they need around.
also someone pointed out the other day, tea leaves are quite happy to cut your frame if they’re going to just sell the parts.

european ebay thing is interesting but wouldn’t it still show up on ebay UK? not that there’s f* all you could do about it :/

nope, threshold also affects compression “unlocked”.. not sure at what speeds though. i don’t think there’s much you can do with a poploc other than changing to manual adjuster or just adding more air. sag is misleading with dual air forks because -ve makes it look really different. you have to do it by ride not so much %

the presenter is not the problem, i had a listen to that bit on iplayer, problem is the seriously bad attitude among a significant minority of UK drivers.. it’s not just driving either, it’s a general CGAF for strangers?

that twitter feed today is absolutely amazing 8O  :(

this one seems to sum it up well?

Tom Daley gets trolled on twitter: nation unites against trolls. Wiggo gets his ribs broken by a van driver: nation unites against cyclists.

alright, things are finally moving on the EG low bb front – any owners/interested peeps get over to the mtbr thread now.
Brant sounds a bit stressed though please don’t give him a hard time, doubt it’s his fault.. the world ain’t perfect.

isn’t it part of driving theory to learn this stuff? (GrahamS posted). i mean are those kids or did they somehow pass their tests?

is this a reference to “road tax”?

Jesus can’t the mods IP ban him? not perfect but this takes the piss.

he’s either a scammer or an idiot or both, either way give us suspected aliases so we can avoid.

reason for so many accounts is likely because paypal keeps freezing them. tbf, they do this sometimes even if you’re innocent. tbf, i doubt this is innocent.

yeah saw this on news just now.. about 6pm last night. woman driver unhurt (surprise!). massive wingmirror damage apparently.
be safe in the dark folks, remember even if you ride well, someone may not drive well, or see you..

oh it solves pinch flatting, you just can’t smash into everything and expect your rims to be fine :) if your rims are ok and you just get the odd pinch, go for it (i run tubeless but to avoid thorn punctures and because it feels better).

    smiff
    Free Member

oh i thought you were getting new wheels.
yes a new bigger volume tyre is well worth trying. choose something with strong sidewall, not dualply if you ride uphill though!

the only time i’ve really had trouble with pinches was a worn out tyre in Afan that stretched (imagine a rubbery balloon, you press one place, the rest gets bigger, making it very easy to pinch flat). new tyre, no problems.

is your tyre worn? can you run your current rim tubeless? 21mm internal is not much different to a flow, it’s not really narrow.

go tubeless, wide rim, stiffer sidewall tyre, maybe even dualply at back, and gradually drop pressure.
i’m not btw a great rider but i’ve talked to a few and the gist seems to be most pinching is caused by clumsy riding, not reading the ground properly etc. if you think you’ll be doing that a lot, maybe go for mavic rim or something tougher than stans.
burping is an issue but less an issue than punctures imho :)

    easy
    1) be light as a feather :D
    2) live without rocks :(
    3) don’t bash into stuff. if you were pinching at 35psi, you’re now landing on the rim, esp. with Stan’s you’ll ding them, so learn to ride better.

agree actually. i’d add about 4 psi to each of those stan’s values? gets me about 21/24

he either endo’s everywhere or he’s worried about front end burping? dunno, don’t recommend that.

you don’t say your weight, but softer than you do now. there’s a rough formula, from another thread, from Stan’s:

To determine a starting tire pressure when running mountain bike tires tubeless on our ZTR mountain rims use this simple formula:

Rider weight (with gear) in pounds divided by 7 = x

    x – 1 = Front tire PSI

    x + 2 = Rear tire PSI

i think wider rims help (think of it as pressing the rim through the tyre, rather than other way around – thin rim obviously to me goes through easier?) but Shiggy says no. wider rims def. make tyres more stable in corners though.

b r is on some craic running less on rear ;)

lets be honest its all about the bearings

true, a BB is in a sense just a bearing holder, but Hope’s cups do have a unique shape – no other AFAIK has that lip and seal type. i’m not sure how much of Hope’s longevity is down to that and how much is the stainless bearings.

it’s debatable which is better value between shimano from germany vs Hope, no real right answer.
there are plenty of wrong answers though, like FSA, and spending full uk RRP on shimano, or expensive but crap “ceramic” ones with shit steel races.
I still quite fancy a Pace with the grease gun attachment and stainless bearings fitted.. Hope does the job though.
