straight steerer on merlin’s.. in 2012, surprises me that this is still popular, suits me with old frames though.

afaik there’s no better fork at this level.. some may prefer coil, so you might like a Sektor or old Pike? not sure.

yeah, they’re OE, warranty would be with Merlin not SRAM. no reason to doubt Merlin would honour this though?

converting to crown – just take the spring out of the damper and find some way to turn the top? or there are kits but i hate the price of those knobs.

off to buy some helitape for the legs.. those lovely, white, glossy legs mmm.

heh i tried, can’t go linking all old Rev threads to this, bit spammy :p

apparently 2013 Revs aren’t coming in for a bit (not sure how long) so this isn’t a clearance as such, they just have too many white ones..

also these ones have serial numbers intact. last pair i bought from merlin years ago had the serial scratched out, bit weird.
write down those numbers boys and girls, if nicked more likely to have fork come up than the frame, going by recent stories..

more like +£87 with discounts but yeah, you’d have to be too cool for white (maybe anticipating the next fashion, black forks?)

they come with two spacers btw, for 140 or 130mm.. i guess you can shim even lower if you want a reba that can later be long travel 🙂 (can Loco or someone confirm this is ok?).
Reba RLT is now same price actually http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/frame-forks/forks-shocks/rockshox-suspension-forks/2012-rockshox-reba-rlt-forks-remote-lockout.html

the intro to that, in the bike factory, reminded me of the intro to the Ali G Show. this is not good. but the end of that clip, one rider carving s-turns in the forest, is beautiful.
has there been a parody mtb movie yet?

this programme was great and terrible. great for Danny and his parents.. terrible for the pseudo-science that just about everything on tv seems to have now… why, it’s not ok just to appreciate art or sport on their own? The only interesting bit was about adrenalin, and i’m not sure that’s even right.

E.B. White famously said: “Analyzing humour is like dissecting a frog. Few people are interested and the frog dies of it.”

Yep, change humour to fun and that’s it.

Nope my old Rebas came with clip on, new RS come with slide on.. got some sitting next to me on desk 🙂 better say which fork and year you have, they are different diameter also.

hmm worrying.. i recently got a Crest and noticed the bead lips are much smaller than on the Flow.. thought it might not hold the tyre while i inflated.. is this a common problem with Crest then?

yeah can’t use innertube, too stretchy. good cloth tape sounds like a go-er. i’ve found superglue sticks well for small tears and such, but not 20mm on its own.

here’s a problem.. anodised orange is dark gold, but paint orange isn’t. one or the other imho and avoid any other colours (especially red).

Ricko i’m imagining you with orange bits right now.. er that sounded wrong.

are you talking about this clip or is there another i should know know about? :p

can you seriously not picture that? i can do any colours i like in my head, for any shape, no problem.. so many posts like this, i guess i must be special :p

it looks fine, if a bit bling, as orange is close to Gold.

hell if you really want, get out a paint app and go wild with the lasso and hue tools :p

these bikes look way too clean. I have an old Top Fuel, it looks nothing like that (no cock). So put a big riser bar on, big tyres, maybe a big fork to mess up the geometry nicely (“slacken it off”) and go thrash them in the woods. when they break, and if you’re fat they will, get Trek to replace (“JRA”). repeat.
they look seriously light and fun to throw around in inappropriate ways. if it’s too dirty to go in your man-cave, good. if those gold wheels get nicked, good too. 😉

FWIW, and not really answering the question, a 2.1 Nevegal makes a great front tyre and about as big as Minion 2.35. on the back i found them draggy as hell though.. go for an advantage 2.1 maybe on back. SB8 if it’s dry (hah).

yeah i’ll talk to Hope first before i get the hammer out. suspicious of part #3, and what’s that line in centre of centre tube?

    smiff
    Free Member

sorry yeah my end caps just pull off but sometimes you need a vice. wiggling them back and forward with some mole grips and a rag over the ends may do it.

i’m just confused looking at that diagram these hubs are so simple not sure where else it could be rubbing. maybe the bearings are not installed right, slightly too far in or not straight?

    smiff
    Free Member

should be clear that we’re not talking about bearing problems, or at least not just bearings on their own. all my Hope bearings have been smooth and long lasting.

there seems to be a tolerance problem somewhere else in recent hubs?

andeh, have you checked it’s not the bearings by rotating each on its own with the end caps out.

prefer more understated frame of teh 2nd one, but.. gold spokes? no.

what happens if you put gnar tyres on these bikes and thrash them?

thanks, might call Hope in the week then.

    Found this exploded view:

Problem appears to be from 2, 3 or 7. 3 and 7 are just rubber orings? there’s no other clips in there? so not sure where could be rubbing.. centre tube shouldn’t be touching shell should it. maybe something fell in there during assembly!

Nothing to do with the QR skewer or axle, this (roughness on the front hub) happens even with end caps out. rear tightness may be related to end caps, i need to check that again before i talk to Hope.

other minor thing is both are set up tubeless so shame to take them apart, guess i’ll have to though if they’ll look at it..

is this the best value frame in its class right now? even at £700 it might be?

lol @ cock comments, esp. samuri. looks more like a horse cock to me though.

yes bb without any shell are a terrible idea.. how many frames have Trek replaced because of this, yet they’re still doing it, for a tiny weight saving?

it’s a piece of alloy, that’s what it should cost. added to fav sellers, nice find.

    sounds like hell up there.
large scale use of decoy bikes (trackers) + longer sentencing is only way i can see police reducing this..

    in today’s CTC email:

“Last year over 500,000 bikes were stolen in the UK (one each minute), with a recovery rate of under 5 per cent. It has been estimated that of the 17 per cent of cyclists that experience bicycle theft, 66 per cent cycle less often and 24 per cent stop altogether.”

presumably for all cyclists rather than keen mtb-ers but still 🙁

thanks for this info LoCo.. best explanation i’ve seen, just ordered a Rev (sorta killed my Rebas in Wales, they were pissing me off anyway). Rev RLT because that seems best deal for £315 from merlin, quidco tracked making it about £305. should have bought this earlier in year (cheaper, would have had it for that trip) oh well :p

btw best price i can see for RCT3 is £455 from wiggle with their 10% off, i can’t justify extra £150 for that extra threshold setting really, plus i like the remote!

so fingers crossed this solves all (?!) the things i hate about my ’08 Reba:

    1) arch clearance with 2.25+ tyres
    2) stiction when wet (spent hours on this..)
    3) bit flexy / 9mm dropout
    4) IS mounts were corroding right off and going to kill me 😮 from a trip to Lakes with salty roads..

at the same weight, with better rebound.. yeehah 😉

    25 x 37 x 7 = 6805 standard i think

going to be so much weight on your hands, it needs the rebas..
also looks flexy as **** on back end. should be braces from mid-way down seatstays to top tube.. but that wouldn’t look hipster would it.

^ Scott’s post above says how much more awesome this area can be or is with local knowledge.. both those sections are another level (difficulty) from anything on red.
    frankly they scare me.

just noticed red on strava is missing last section, who set this up? :p it finishes in’t car park not half way round big berm..

lots of people were setting good times beginning of this month before the rain, that was my first go with Strava though i can do better when it dries again hehe.
see how completely unbeatable by mortals Matt is..

b****r, black is after green? blue i’m down with, blue should be fun for anyone.. green send ’em to Alice Holt 😉
kidding about red it’s only too easy when it’s dry 😉
edit: i’m already 6th on strava, will be trying to go faster but no chance of beating the francis Matt guy is he on drugs?

lol. the local paper called him “top cyclist”.. which he is, but.. i think most public only know of tour-de-france lycra clad type riding or the Chris Hoy indoor stuff because that’s all they see. like with the olympics, mincing around a field in essex (i kid, i know it’s tricky) when they should have been watching the Fort William DH last weekend… when do we start on the blacks at QE Scott? 🙂 the red is too easy 😉

awesome. anyone know how to save vimeo videos as avi/mp4 or something? i might have to ask Rupert for a CD compilation of his QE videos 🙂 (flash doesn’t run too well on my xbmc setup).

yay thanks Scott.. knew someone flashed me not getting air on that table, wondered if that pic existed. look reasonably balanced too.. unlike Doddy haha.

This is looking like another miserable pump-track wet-weekend shivering the cold hope you have a plan so things get done 🙂

i heard SRAM will be same price as their old mechs. planning on going SRAM 2 x 10 or 1 x 10 here.

edit: yeah £55 **** off my current mechs were £30 ish, not spending twice that on something that will get smashed on a rock.

Giro Xar was working well for me when it was hot. noticeably better than the Xen which i always took off for climbs. unless its a big discount though you gotta try on..

even though it’s a DJ frame, i’d send that back. always check stuff when you get it!

btw you’re allowed to be juvenile if you’re 18 🙂 if that was a mid-like crisis bike, maybe i’d take the piss.. 😉

do you mean they’re leaking? is fluid coming out somewhere? if you bleed them, is there much air in there?
should not need bleeding every time you change pads, no.
there are seal kits available for the calipers that don’t cost much, i’ve never had to use them though so can’t say how hard they are to change. if you’re using grease on the caliper (either to prevent squeal or sticky pistons), use only red rubber grease. for the lever, also use something plastic safe like flouropolymer or silicone spray..
my experience is with older Elixirs so maybe soemone else has seen this on the newer 3s.

i forgot you ride in air.
you stop accelerating when your weight (gravity x mass) equals drag (from air and ground).
there is a slight but.. if you’re heavier you probably have more surface area too? i guess increasing rider size overall increases terminal velocity though, think of in insect riding a small bike, vs a whale.

being serious for a moment: the same reason so many cars are silver? it’s about not offending people in the showroom – you don’t want a customer to go “yeah like the bike but couldn’t own a green/brown/orange/pink one”. doesn’t explain why black and not silver though.. smaller the company, smaller batches, less an issue i’d guess.
