i didn’t want 10 speed but it ended up about the same cost as 2 x 9 (doing a new bike build). i don’t like shimano 9spd it doesnt shift well. SRAM 10 sp clutch stuff is too expensive or i’d have got that.

or Zee, i went for SLX as it allows double or single ring up front, more versatile 🙂

if not enough clearance, or if using thicker rotors, or using some brands of thicker pads, you just need to let some fluid out (or use a slightly wider block when bleeding).

the slx gs + is the only sensibly priced clutch rear mech (med cage), i just got one from germany. as for ratios, depends what you ride. for most, 38/24 11-36 would be good.

I’ve tried these bikes, liked this because of something, but i’ve ruled out these alternatives because of that problem. I couldn’t ride a bike this colour or made by that company. I want a 26er/29er. that looks normal to me, esp for a woman’s bike. i’m a 5′ 10″ guy and i like my seattube collar about level with top of back wheel. a 29″ will look even lower. can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want lots of standover tbh.
if anything this course was more “all mountain” (sorry) than most, with wider bars and some FS bikes doing well.

exactly what i’m considering right now, as SLX are cheaper than Avid 7. only thing i can think is to use smaller rotors. think i’m going with Avid again for this reason. shame they don’t work quite so well with Shimano shifters..

if it needs pen & paper, or is only fun for the those in it, or takes more than a couple of sentences to explain, it needs to go.. there’s many good things you can do with that pringle, like pursuit and elimination and probably loads i’ve never heard of. not sure about omnium, it’s like a heptathlon but all on same track so seems a bit silly. Cav was saying it’s a kids thing? seems like a lot of work for 1 medal. my “omnium” would have like 1 track, 1 road, and 1 mtb? 🙂

yeah the speed of the elimination, combined with drafting you get in cycling, and the odd person not understanding they’re out, makes for gripping tv..

this is a trust thing isn’t it.. there are brands that i’d trust to do their own testing (Easton, Thomson, some others) and others i’d rather see independently tested. i’d rather have a bit more weight and less worry with some good alloy bars!

most times i’d say go cheap, but this i wouldn’t, because even if it didn’t fail, it would ruin my riding worrying about it.
