oh shit duh, and i have a spare fox aircan seal lying around too, will have to fit that 🙂

2pure/CB themselves are fitting better seals than the original btw, at least since last summer.

unfortunately the seal that fails for me is an air seal near lever, someone else here explained how to do that, it’s tricky and needs special tools.

the Fox seal upgrade is interesting, which seal exactly please?
Jake just offered to send me a spare seal free (one i got back today is damaged) – can’t fault 2pure at all, but if the Fox is better i’ll go with that, if i continue to use the post at all.. my feeling is life is too short for this, Gravity Dropper or something maybe.

please, let us know when that seatstay/dropout area breaks.

more grapes! 😀 haha. seriously carbon does worry me though, my mate wrecked his carbon zaskar just by rubbing his heels too much on the stays.. they must be cared for.

ah looks like Jake @ 2pure is taking a well deserved holiday from 13th September to 2nd Oct. PSA.

so if broken no time to get yours serviced now / try not to break your post before then..

Probably he never wants to see another Joplin in his life 😀

well, for one thing, because i didn’t send my semi-working (no air) post back over summer as i had some races etc i didn’t want to be without post for. so there is that! and i cheaped out and didn’t get remote, i now want remote BUT, with remote version when the air leaks the post is hard to raise. so dilemmas.
edit: i know.. 1st World Problems.

it’s both the least reliable product, and best service i’ve ever had. so strange. they must be fixing these things all day and night.

can confirm 2pure are awesome, Jake also. slight dilemma as was going to sell Joplin and buy something more reliable, but they’re continuing to service mine.. presumably they wouldn’t do this for a new owner.

anyone have a spare 30.9 sleeve for Joplin 3 or know where i can get one?

edit: oh i got a letter saying maybe i should service mine. not accusing me of anything but implies i didn’t. fair enough, i didn’t. my problem is always the air seals going though nothing to do with service here afaik.

looks like the merlin 2013 revs are taper though? at about same price, which is pretty nice/useless depending on your frame.. no specs at all i could see there though.

are the 2013s upgraded in any way do you know Loco?

really hope this doesn’t become more common, the drive by bike robbery. this is what’s worried me when riding alone, more than having stuff nicked from home. that rhymed. having a bike without a recognisable name might help, or is it just “oooh shiny”, in which case i’m f***ed.

OP you sound pretty cool i’d be very unhappy with that. never been robbed touch wood, know plenty of people who’v had phones etc nicked.. some of them still don’t like to talk about it.

good call Northwind.. guess which of us has chewed end caps? 😐

yeah their mistake was trying to help this customer publicly. obvious (to me) from OPs first post he’s a smartass, going to be awkward.

never, ever had a 9s powerlink fail (only normal links). solving a problem that didn’t exist, or getting you to buy new chains or something? SRAM lost a customer here. not that i ever remove chains for cleaning anyway 😀

bolt yeah but i find all my forks very flexy back-forward (e.g. under braking), which i only recently realised is what tapered is to help with.. but if RS say that’s only 20% better for tapered (and 5% under turning) vs 1-1/8, it must be pretty bad with all forks imho. i can def. see 1-1/2 to 1-1/8 or something bigger becoming standard in future.. also 32mm stanchions are starting to look like 28mm looked a few years ago – thin. i’m a skinny xc rider too btw.

vice helps because you can get more leverage on it.. any kind of mole grip (preferably something right angled) plus a wrap to prevent damage plus a wiggling action should get it off. i can’t do it pulling straight out either, must wiggle. pliers are probably a bit small.

    like this, but smaller.

obviously, you’ve removed the cassette already..

er same question, considering an NP headset, noticed a review saying no spare bearings available, surely not? anyone confirm please? (can’t call NP until Monday..)
    specifically for 49IESS.

Pitch/Guapo/Mega nothing else close for value AFAIK.

which depends a bit what you do/like look of. i’ve ridden the Pitch and EG today, but not Mega at all. i’d rate them as better for

Enduro/XC/DH in that order. but all capable of all depending on setup!

er for posterity, these 3 are £600-800 at time of posting.

also btw, having 3 people jumping in here trying to sell their bikes is pretty annoying. keep it to For Sale eh?

never knew loctite had strengths in Nm. fascinating stuff.

on a related note my front brake almost fell off today, only noticed cos i was checking for headset knocks. oopsie. don’t rely on the pre-creamed bolts!

ok cool, so you’ll end up with about 20mm higher front than me, i can’t do the trig but maybe around 8mm higher BB also.. should be good downhill and still climb nice i think 🙂
Would love to compare actually i can’t afford longer fork right now, but nice to know it’s a frame that can do anything really.
Not sure if you’ve pulled trigger already, check my complains/ideas over here

on-one smoothie would work and cheaper, but i’m a headset snob :p

i wouldn’t have a 170-180mm fork AND the tall headset, i’m only guessing, but you’d probably slacken too much and hurt the lovely climbing. on-one spec a 160 lyric + tallish headset lower stack (someone check this?) on their built EG and this should be good all round.
btw i think they should make clear that a 150mm fork is on the short side for this frame so don’t do what i did :p

yes short cranks, but that’s another can of worms. 170mm here, have thought about 165mm too.. i prefer them anyway for knee reasons but yes would suit the low bb sure. + thin pedals of course 🙂

if this all sounds very anal (5mm here and there) that’s because it is.. also the bike feels so good right away you may find yourself making fine adjustments right away.

    smiff

and this is what i probably should have bought (anyone with a 150mm fork who wants to ride this bike downhill :p):

might put this on top as well, not sure it achieves much though, just looks stupid?

lol at CC 40/110 year warranties. love the bike but don’ think i’ll be riding it in 10..

    smiff

sorry posted this to wrong thread. here’s my EG with Hope D and 1-1/8 revs

should taken photo level but its about 5mm vertical from frame edge to crown race. “right in” was exaggeration then :p

so yeah i’d recommend this headset for 160-170mm forks (you want tapered steerer i think at those lengths though?). for 150m revelation i’m looking for a taller lower cup, thinking maybe a Cane Creek 40, unless anyone knows taller that fits (not a King, too expensive!).

the bike climbs amaaaazing btw, and i don’t mean just “for a 150mm AM bike” i mean really better than my Top Fuel did. if you can keep pedals off the ground.. which is another thing taller front might help.

in in doubt get the Monarch and save £200:
    http://forums.mtbr.com/titus/%24999-v3-el-gaupo-802679-4.html
Monarch is a way better shock than i expected, at least as good as a Fox RP on this frame (i am familiar with Fox on other bikes, haven’t tried on this). you can always fit a coil or high end air shock later.

i have an EG and love the ride overall, sure it has issues but what doesn’t.. i listed some things i don’t like here so you can see if any of these will bother you:

    http://forums.mtbr.com/titus/guapo-v4-wishlist-ideas-805110-post9647065.html

overall, lovely ride, that wicked looks value too and a few (only a few) others in this class. i did a frame only build starting at £540.

Lithuanian Manson? do you mean the mafia estate (Fyning Hill) near Rogate, or the pheasanty bit nr Ditcham? both slightly scary, both with good trails.. not been shot yet!

if new to area first port of call should be QECP for proper trail 🙂 but you are right on Longmoor, so don’t ignore that, common sense around Army etc you shouldn’t have any trouble.

that’s at least 3 ways you could be shot here (Russians, Farmers, Army) haha 🙄 it’s a safe area honestly.

from liss you also have longmoor/bordon and other sandy areas like hillbrow/rogate and all those commons between petersfield and midhurst, if it’s wet and you don’t fancy QECP chalk! there’s also trails to both sides of QECP which you need a local guide for 😉 lots of mtb-ing around here..

yer if you check his history he accepts offers, you can’t see how much though, but you can usually blag a few quid.. so you only “lost” a couple of quid probably 🙂

one thing though.., get under £17 and you don’t pay import vat.

and as long as voltage (= number of cells) matches, and its a smart charger (they all are now), any capacity battery (within reason) should be ok.

    here’s some discussion
    http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=17266959

i’ve not used these lights so can’t really say, if i get one i’ll post beam comparisons against mj872 though.

    smiff
    Free Member

well that’s shit i’d cut one set off and change plugs maybe. too handy to be able to swap when out, share chargers, etc. that guy takes offers too how about.. £18? 🙂

abductee that’s the exact seller you bought from?

    smiff
    Free Member

yeah that looks a nice budget or backup option.. you need someone to test because some just have useless beam patterns. would be interested to know how bright it really is vs mj872.. anyone have both? i might just buy one to try eh.

both 8.4v also, so good chance they are cross-compatible 🙂

    smiff

mj872 is $130 US on DX, which is about £85 through PP, then you pay 20% vat and handling, so it costs £100-115. why? you’re waiting longer and paying more, just buy from a UK seller for under £90.
is there a cheaper version i’m missing on dx?

my light was from magicshine_direct ebay UK. “Magicshine offers 12 months on the light and 6 months on the
battery.” i can’t remember who i got my battery unfortunately he was very helpful and gave me some free straps.

and the mj880, if its 2000 lumens vs 1600 is a small upgrade for a lot bulkier looking head and £40 more.

only thing i’d upgrade for would be non-strobing dimming and maybe a better battery meter (this one is all over the place, can be alarming), anyone used other budget lights can comment on that? because the 872 is already too bright to use on full most of the time..

    smiff
    Free Member

also.. instead of buying one large battery, maybe buy the cheaper standard kit and a spare standard battery (like mj828) for about £25-30, still cheaper and less chance of finding yourself out in teh dark than one big battery?

    smiff
    Free Member

mj872 is what i got last xmas, it’s a beast and amazing value. no fancy features, just a wall of light. get it from a uk seller in case any problems (i had no problems, but obviously some might), and get a spare battery for about £30. total cost about £120.

mine’s been very reliable and i can’t imagine needing any brighter… put it on your head imho, and carry a small torch for fiddling, because you’ll blind yourself trying to use the mj for fixing flats etc 🙂

edit: should mention the thing i don’t like about mj872 – it uses very obvious (to me) pulsing for dimming, so anything below 100% produces a strobe effect that in rain can be pretty bad imho. if you’re sensitive to strobes, you might have trouble with this..

christ spacers are a rip off. you can get them for 60p if you poke around the web.. (glossiness uncertain).

but really sounds like you want these!

    haha. jesus.

87p delivered for platinum customers. not bad if you just want a few.

i happen to be just shopping for spacers..

tapered steerers take ordinary stems. CRC is usually good place for cheap ones..

    smiff

oh right, if you’ve been to jedi already, def. change your bar and stem ’till it feels right!
don’t buy expensive ones they’ll just encourage you not to change again.

tbh it’s mainly about technique – a good rider will probably corner great on your trance – but wide bar/stem, big front tyre etc, can help you feel confident and that can help you weight the front properly etc.

alot more women have autism spectrum disorders than is widely known.

about the jizz.. you must use cold water to remove anything with protein.. same with blood in clothes etc.

expected thread about dog shit.. you know that stuff sticks to tyres way better than mud. would a trail made 100% turds give the best traction?

    smiff

no 9 speed probably ever.. this is another thing to push you into new stuff you don’t need, more expensive chains etc..
although.. these may work on 9 speed anyway, anyone tried?

i’m guessing that’s a joke but only touch the switch when you want to take the wheel out. i guess in a few years they’ll do away with the switch and make it auto.
