Well it's all systems go for my plan to set up the Roaul Moat Nature Trail, paying homage to his stint on the run linking up his crime scenes, camps and hide outs and ending on the tranquil river bank. Looks like I have a customer base :-)

I find endura sizing inconsistant, where as Rapha tends to size up as they describe on their website.

To be fair crikey, when you work in the NHS everyone knows what band you are on, so keeping your salary secret is a bit of a mute point…

I do only have to do 3 or 4 shifts each week in a job that can be stressfull although I find it pretty good fun, but the customers can be a bit of a handful. I love my city bike commute and have enough cash to fund whatever I fancy. I'm in the NHS so things could get a bit choppy, but I'm in a bit of a specialist post and the recession has probably increased my work load, so fingers crossed. I'm a pretty happy user of life really and consider myself very fortunate to be so.

I wear a tie everyday just because I like to, my job doesn't require it, and I wear them outside of work. I can't say they cause me any issues with over heating if you have a shirt that fits you properly. Nor would I rely on one to keep me warm in winter. I guess it takes all sorts….

I can never understand this 'will give us all a bad name' nonsense. My daily commute has taught me car drivers appear to hate other car drivers, van drivers, taxis, lorry drivers, bus drivers, cyclists, motorcyclists, horse riders, pedestrians and some seem to hate 999 vehicles! The chap in the vid would be a cock end regardless of whatever cause he decided to champion, not because he is a cyclist, just because he is a cock end. Seems like natural slection may cure of this one in the end though…

Most of my experience with the police, has been working with them on mental health act assessments, at times some have been surprising sensitive to some very ill people, and never once has one failed to front up when things kick off.
As a victim of crime; I once stepped in to stop some fella knocking the shite out of his wife outside a pub one saturday night, it didn't quite go to plan as I simply seemed to take a slapping on her behalf! After the incident, whilst heading home with a split lip and a shiner, a copper stopped me to ask what I'd been up to. He was surprisingly polite and took my story at face value, and checked I was OK took my details etc. Next morning 2 coppers appeared at my house with a book of photo's. They were pleased when I identified the guy, seems they went back to the pub got some witness statements, and the chap ended up in the clink! Seems he had a number of other offences to face and was on a suspended sentance.
Thumbs up for them in my book.

I'm front line staff for nhs mental health, in my experience of this and social services the cuts will hit older peoples services. It's usually the first hit as it has the weakest lobby and poorest public profile, if the public were that bothered we wouldn't have some of the current care services that are availible. Gray heads dying of neglect just don't get the same attention as kids doing the same or nutter's off'ing folk.

Someone made the point that this kind of thing is desperately rare and of course it is. But the instance of mental health issues and depression are not rare.

Yes it was me, and you are right mental health problems are not rare. But in general, people with mental health problems are no more dangerous than the general population, in fact probably less so.

but I do believe that women are more tuned into reading the signs, showing empathy etc.

realises it's going to be one of those debates….so quietly backs away before it gets more pointless.

I have no idea about the mental health status of the man who went on this spree, but I find events like this just harden the perception that the mentally ill are more dangerous than the general population, and since these are the people I spend my days working with, I see how this belief further isolates people. I feel this awful incident is an extreme but quite isolated incident, and I find the scaremongering a bit off.

I'm not sure we all do tread a fine line, I can only think of now 3 people that have gone postal like this in my life time. Despite this being 3 to many, it does mean the staggering majority of us don't do this. This has been a needless and bewildering tradegy for all those effected, and they have my deepest sympathy. But I'm not going to be spending my days worrying about people who look a bit tense.
