    Just asking makes you sound a right knob, which in turn makes you perfectly qualified to stay. STW does like the needy.

    This takes me back to one of the fantasia do’s, just as the sun was coming up, I’d lost everyone I had gone with and done loads of drugs 8O

    And this to going back to someones place when things had calmed down

    And this of my first few months in manchester when things had got a bit more house in the mid 90’s.

    and now I’m just another fixie riding **** monkey.

    Could you not give it a go, and if you don’t like it swap back?

    In order;

    – any bike shop or online bike shop (edit or from hairychested)
    – yes, depends to who for what though
    – not to put on that CBR sideswipe for DH, save it for a new bike

    :-)

    Providing you know you will need to take off two of your chainrings upfront, then yes, it should work. I think AlasdairMc has offered some pretty good advice in his post.

    I would also advocate having a dedicated commuter bike if you can stretch to it, if you are planning to ride in all weathers I wouldn’t fancy not having decent mudguards.

    That cannondale has 29 gears, nice.

    As a devoted STW’er, that photo is all wrong, a bike picture needs to show the bike in its natural enviroment. Does Doddy know nothing! he needs to get off that steed, get it showroom clean and get it photographed in his kitchen or propped up on his decking. Noooooooooooooob!

    should i be using a carbon stem with carbon bars?

    You can if you want, but you don’t have to.

    Ritchey torque key – http://www.evanscycles.com/products/ritchey/5nm-torque-key-for-carbon-bars-and-stems-ec017614?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=froogle

    I’ve never bothered with carbon paste when fitting bars, but couldn’t hurt I guess.

    Let me list a few:

    As a regular ton plus mile and audax roadie, I can only think that no.1 has ever been an issue for me, and even then it’s rare. If you are talking touring I guess there may be more chance of your fears coming true or if you are planning to interupt your ride with a cultural event or maybe even a movie. If you just want to have a backpack/ or you if you cant’t think ahead or are just a bit of a fretter then, also, maybe.

    Some years ago, on my commute to work I was hit by a ford focus that broke my leg in several places; fortunately the surgeon pinned it 8O

    I picked up one of these 10 years ago, and it just keeps looking more dapper, but I am rather partial to wearing suits and proper shoes. It has been pretty much around the world on most modes of transport, and every scuff just enhances it looks to me;

    My mate has one of these though, in tabacco, a fair bit cheaper and to be fair it looks pretty good and seems well made;

    But I have to say that bag the count has found has given me angry tight pants and an itchy wallet, afterall a chap should have appropriate attire.

    Mrsmith’s pegoretti makes my pants angry tight :D and that cheeky photo is such a tease.

    The thing for me is I don’t want to be haggling, or to be wondering if I should be. I just want a price on an item so I can decide if I want it, pretty much like a supermarket. I don’t want an lbs to be making me coffee or pretending to be my mate, I’m just happy if they are polite and have some knowledge about what they are selling. I’ll pay a bit more for some bits at an lbs without too much worry, but given what I’ve just said it’s no surprise I get most of my kit on line.

    If she’s fit, and your available, what is there to lose? The worst she could do is haunt you.

    You are in a tough situation and for that you have my sympathy, but if as you say there is no mental illness, then your inaction is down to choice. It sounds like you know what the answer is but you don’t want to make the tough decision, and you are couching this in the terms that you love her and you doubt she will cope. But if you carry on down this path you will force her hand and eventually she will conceed to give up what she wants or she’ll leave. If you really want to support her you will need to get yourself uncomfortable, and this may also be the best thing for you. One of the disfficulties in a relationship is that at times we move at different speeds and want to be in different places. Remaining passive to the situation may stop you ever being the bad guy on the outside, but you are half of a partnership and everything you do or don’t do is also on you.

    My job essentially involves deciding if people are suicidal, clumsy or a bit pathetic, and I consider it pretty ideal.
    But I do sometimes think I would like small shop baking bread, selling great sandwiches and beer.

    Hmmm, I did this properly by marrying a lass when I was 19, on the grounds that I loved her and I thought a bit of security may help her rather excitable nature. As we moved into our early 20’s, she was diagnosed as bi-polar, had an eating disorder, and substance problems. We separated when I was 26, after effectively losing these years to total chaos, of the kind a you would have to live to believe, the only real breaks were the times she was sectioned in hospital. I’m 36 now, dead happy, single but a bit of a tart. She died a couple of years ago, and I did go to her funeral, and although I didn’t feel saddened by her loss but I was hit by the fact her mum and dad were the only others to attend, despite being on of 5 children.

    This is just a cut n paste of post the other night, I picked up flash as I got a bit sick of £20 lights dying;

    I’ve been running the exposure flash for the last month now on my daily commute in and around manchester

    It’s had a few proper soakings and seems to get me noticed plenty enough, even in busy rush hour traffic when here are plenty of other distractions for drivers, and certainly seems more durable that previous lights around this price. The flash function seems to get me noticed in the daytime to, it’s more of a solid light with a flash on top. It’s pretty tiny and just pops off it’s mount and into my pocket, but is secure when in the mount. I picked up 2 re-chargeable’s and a charger off ebay for about £12 from a UK shop. So for a £50 package I’m pretty chuffed, and it’s hard to get that excited about a front light. I guess a big thing with lights is how bright a light the individual rider feels happy with, in terms of either just getting seen in busy traffic or lighing a trail at night, and as a commuting light I like it.

    I ran these over summer and found them a pretty good compromise for road and off road riding.

    Bargain cheap to, but not sure how good they would be in proper mud.

    Exactly how I feel when she spends £100+ on hair straightners

    Why do you care? It’s her money, if she wants to spend £100+ on hair things, so what. If both of you are spending cash on yourselves and that’s stopping you doing couple stuff, it’s a bit of a message.

    I guess there is the odd exceptional artist who can put there all into the right song and it comes off, but in general I consider most just to be lazy money, little more than karaoke no matter how they dress it up.
